Town Cut Season Ticket Prices But By How Much Depends on How Many Sold
Wednesday, 17th Apr 2019 11:10

Town have cut their season ticket prices for the 2019/20 season, their first in the third tier for 62 years, but by how much depends on how many are sold, while the cheapest adult matchday tickets have been reduced from £25 to £23.

Most season tickets have been cut by an initial 12.5 per cent - for example, an adult lower tier season ticket costing £381 this season will be £333 if renewed for 2019/20 - while Family Enclosure tickets are down 15 per cent.

But the club has also introduced what they call Town Targets, which will see prices drop by a further 10 per cent on last year’s price - that adult lower tier seat would be £295 - if 12,000 are sold before the early bird deadline of May 6th, 15 per cent if 13,000 are sold - £276 - and 20 per cent - £257 - if season ticket numbers - currently 10,200 - hit the 14,000 mark before the deadline.

In addition to the reduction in prices, all supporters who buy a season ticket before the first day of the 2019/20 season will have their ticket frozen at that same price if the Blues are promoted to the Championship for 2020/21.

“We spoke with a number of supporters to gauge their opinions and carried out a survey before finalising our prices,” Town’s general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill told the club site.
"
“We are expecting to lose close on £9 million in revenue for next season so it’s a balancing act between protecting season ticket revenue and getting the price as low as we can. We hope supporters think we’ve got it about right."

“With season ticket prices dropping 10 per cent last year and between 12.5 per cent and 15 per cent for 2019/20 - and perhaps more - there has been a significant decrease in price over the last two years.”

Manager Paul Lambert added: “I’ve been privileged to have played for some big football clubs in my career and seen some fantastic support.

"What I have witnessed from the Ipswich Town fans since I’ve been here is right up there with anything I’ve experienced in the game.

“I was out on the pitch after the Birmingham match. We’d just been relegated but the noise and support from the stands was unbelievable. I had to stand there and take it all in. It was incredible. Incredible.

“That’s why this club will be alright, because of that support. It might not seem like it at the moment but we’re in a really good place in a lot of ways.

"We’ve got some really good young players here. They will need time to develop but the potential is there. How good can they be? We will find out when they are given a chance — but they will get that chance. That’s the direction we are going in.

“There will be changes to the squad in the summer. That’s only natural. The loan players will go back, other players will leave and we will look to freshen things up.

"We have an idea of where we need to strengthen and the challenge next season is to bounce back. It won’t be easy for certain. It will be a tough league and we will be a scalp for clubs but that’s the target.

“We have a long term strategy here and it’s not just going to happen overnight but we have to start somewhere — and it starts now.

“The signs are there. We have played really well in a lot of games this season. The potential is there. It’s going to be exciting and sometimes you have to take a step back to go forwards.

“Other clubs have done that in the past. That’s the aim for us but the number one factor in why the future is bright for the club is the fanbase. Your continued support is absolutely vital.”

In further comments from the letter partially released on Sunday, owner Marcus Evans said: “We have dropped the price of season tickets for next season by between 12.5 per cent and 15 per cent, with further cuts of an additional 20 per cent if we reach target figures for take up.

“There is a substantial drop in club income from other revenue streams so we have to protect season ticket revenue but with season ticket prices dropping 10 per cent for 2018/19 that takes us to a minimum 22.5 per cent decrease in price over the last two years.

“In addition, if we are promoted back to the Championship next season, we will freeze prices for 2020/21 for those who purchased season tickets for 2019/20 before the first day of the new season.

“I’d like to thank you for the fantastic support you have given Paul and the players this season. It’s been a really tough year for everyone connected to the club but the atmosphere created home and away has been one of the highlights.”

The initial 12.5 per cent drop will see an adult season ticket holder in one of the lower tiers pay £14.47 for each of Town’s 23 League One matches, while senior citizens in the same area will pay £10.22 per match, under-23s £7.65 and under-19s £3.91.

In the Family Enclosure the initial price cut means an adult and three children under-12 all renewing can watch the Blues for a total of £19 per game.

The club are also continuing their interest-free 12-month Direct Debit payment scheme with current season ticket holders who pay via this route automatically renewed for 2019/20 unless they tell the club otherwise.

Town have also linked up with local businesses to offer discounts to season ticket holders as part of the ITFC Rewards scheme."

Match ticket prices are also down to £23 in the lower tiers (£25 this season) and £27 (£30 in 2018/19) in the upper tiers, aside from the central areas of Cobbold and Co-op stands.

"Season tickets will go on sale from 9am on Tuesday 23rd April with the full price list here.

"Season ticket brochures will be available at the turnstiles at Monday’s game against Swansea City at Portman Road."

Blueboy, think about it, I'm not playing games, if I was a scummer I'd be delighted with Evans, he'd have just sent my fiercest rivals down!! Norwich love Evans!! 😁 That's what's so baffling!!

Lots of positive comments on here but the proposal looks inadequate to me as a promotional offer. Why not offer the full 35% discount to anyone who signs up before a certain date rather than signing up and hoping another 13,999 people also sign up. I really think they are pretty inept at designing promotional offers/sales strategy. Most will look at the 12.5% discount, assume we won't make the 14k and then reject the offer, except those who would have probably signed up without the discount anyway. If the aim is to fill the ground and get bums on seats the full 35% discount should be offered to everyone (subject to a time limit to accept the offer). I would say you couldn't make it up, but clearly they can :(

Although i'm no longer in the position where i can attend, i'd rate the offer(s), as very fair, though would agree that the EB date of May 6th is maybe a touch early. I'm guessing it's at least partly due to seeing what the finances are regarding new players etc.

Also, a comment for Karls Dad (Karl is my name by the way!) Try and keep a smile on your face and a positive attitude. I'm not suggesting the same thing is going to happen, but my grandad had the same horrible disease some years back. He was finally given 6 months max to live. Seven years later he succumbed! The medical profession aren't always right (it would be impossible). So, the best of luck with your fight.

Any mention of away fans prices??

Always good to have more away fans in the ground.

Moving them back towards the north stand would also be a good idea imo. Creates a much better atmosphere.

I will never forgive this hapless, vain Chelsea fan for what he has done to my club but I will be renewing my three season tickets and cheering on the team as ever. I just hope he gets it right by supporting the manager as that is just as important. A squad that has won 4 games in a season needs a lot of work to prevent it happening again. COYB

Happy enough with the offers. My only slight criticism would be the prices of tickets for an adult turning up to watch on the day. I think £20 would of been perfect there for the day. I often work on a Saturday so have to pick and choose which games I can attend to fit around that but I do realise the club has to make the season ticket holders the priority and if the tickets were made £20 pay on the day this might make some think they'll just go and watch the games they most fancy rather than committing for the whole season. It's a tough balancing act I know and impossible to keep everybody happy.

Just read about your situation @ Karls_dad, feel ashamed now to be having a little grumble over £3 given that, wow! Those of us on here in health, we really need to start counting our blessings more!

if it wasn't such a long drive from australia i'd be right in. i'm actually really looking forward to next season. i think this is all just part of the rich tapestry of the ultimate ipswich story. of course we'll be back. and we'll be better for it. our club needs us all now more than ever, coz it's not just the players, it's not just the manager, it's not just the owner, it's IPSWICH TOWN FC - and that's you, me and all of us, so let's dig deep and rally round and SUPPORT the club, the town, the history, and more importantly the future! COME ON YOU BLUES!!

Genuinely believe this is the right level of discount, it should (hopefully) get the crowds back and that support in turn will lift the players and hopefully produce some decent results, I for one will be getting that early bird ticket next week!

I have to say I am a little surprised that the deals have been so readily accepted.

We are in effect playing Division 3 football and I would have gone the Huddersfield route which proved very successful----all at £200 and first come first served, after existing ticket holders had renewed of course and £20 match day tickets.

That would have sold nearly 20,000 tickets and is that not what the club wants?

Anyway the people have spoken and I will of course be renewing and would have done so whatsoever.

Finally God Bless to Karls Dad-----stay strong my friend and believe, I want you there on the town hall steps with me in May.

Best wishes to Karl's Dad. Your positivity in the face of adversity is truly inspirational. I hope you get to see a rejuvenated team succeeding next season. Keep the faith.

As for the ST offer this looks pretty fair to me. I would have renewed anyway as I am enjoying the change in approach on all fronts (results yet to come.....) that PL has brought to the club so far. The summer is huge with whatever coming and going happens, but I believe he is the man to take us forward. ME just has to give him the support that he wants.
