McCarthy: I Hope Fans That Hounded Me Out Enjoy the Sexy Football in League One
Wednesday, 24th Apr 2019 18:42

Former boss Mick McCarthy says he is sad the Blues have been relegated but in a spiky riposte to his detractors hopes that the fans that he says hounded him out "enjoy watching the sexy football in the first division”.

McCarthy, 60, left Portman Road a year ago this month, his relationship with fans having deteriorated markedly during the final two years of his five and a half at the club, culminating in a fractious afternoon at Brentford when he was advised by police to leave Griffin Park via a back exit.

“I was doing a good job there,” McCarthy, now back in charge of the Republic of Ireland, told Balls.ie when asked about Town’s drop into League One.

“My job is to win games and [to] stay in that league was my remit, and that's what I continued to do.

“I'm sad that they've gone down. Some of the lads are taking huge cuts in wages who were with me and who were brilliant for me.

“The staff, I've no doubt people will be losing their jobs because of it so that's going to be sad. It's a great club and pretty much most of their fans were brilliant with me.

"The ones that hounded me out, I hope they enjoy watching the sexy football in the first division [sic].”

He's very childish, feel sorry for any player under him

billlm. Players always seem to like and appreciate him. None of the players were happy that he left

The ‘elephant in the room' all and sundry deliberately refusing to acknowledge ! McCarthy has given a massive insight into Evans lack of ambition! Win games to stay afloat in Championship, nothing more! That proves McCarthy's play off season wasn't thereafter greeted with any kind of interest, especially not financially! The club has been in steady decline since, due to a disconnection from above, which over a period, have manifested in management and playing staff!

Talk about being ‘mugged off' ! 🤣

And that in a nutshell is why it was time he moved on

Whatever has happened in the past, this a cheap and disrespectful comment.
It should be made clear that he is no longer welcome to visit Portman Road.

Bart saved his bacon - and us from relegation, under him. People can conveniently have short memories.

Monotonous Mick wouldn't recognise “sexy football” if it slapped him in the kisser! Anyhow, onwards and upwards..................

I detested his attitude when he was at the club in that he clearly felt little Ipswich should be grateful to have him. No I wasn't. He had no feel for the club at all in my view. Add in his unwatchable neck ache football and I'm pleased he has gone. Why does he feel the need to comment? Shouldn't his joy at ITFCs demise be enough without rubbing people's faces in it? That Evans' only ambition was to stay in the league along with his appalling choice of managers along with letting the club rot away are totally different issues.

suffolkboy MM going out of his way to antagonise the loyal supporters of ITFC is not big and its not clever, it most certainly is not intelligent either! An intelligent man would also know his comments to these questions do not show him in a good light, an intelligent would have known that humility would have been better. An intelligent man would also have realised that a cup run aside from giving a little cheer, would have raised some extra income! For a so called intelligent man, he sure had a stupid way of going about things!

Don't understand why this is even on here. He left a year ago, yet this is 'news'? Any good articles on what Paul Jewell or John Duncan are up to nowadays?

He did do a good job with what he had to work with ,however it was time for him to go . The football was industrial and he didn't help himself at times . A bit like now and making comments he didn't need to .
Thanks Mick but I'm glad we've moved on , even though we may have to take a step back to move forward.

McGoldrick saved Mick's bacon on a number occasions if memory serves me correctly as well getting equalising goals against 'small budget' clubs in the league at the end of a games...my god it was dull but that was Evans fault for extending his contract in February 2016 a point I made and yes will mention it again I received a record -82 votes!! (not to let anybody forget) :)

The fact that an Irish football website, asked the manager of their nation's football team about a club he had left a year ago, shows what a tinpot job he has now.

In McCarthy and Keane we have been unlucky enough to have been managed by two of the biggest as@holes in the game. But we did have Sir Alf and Sir Bobby so can't have it all ways

So for those who constantly big up our owner and all those preseasons he's been on about a five point plan and promotion the man was lying an ex manager coming out and saying “his remit was to stay in that league” feel mugged off yet I sure as hell do! No ambition again WHY is he here and okay with this being his ONLY business he is losing money in!? That bloke and the club are a laughing stock! He needs to know how the fans feel at the Leeds match now he's been stitched up by an ex manager even more so!

I'm sorry but this really winds me up.

McGoldrick: contract ran down
Celina: Return loan player
Garner: Wants to move back home
Waghorn: Wants to play for a better team
Sears: Injured half the season

A lot of people say, "careful what you wish for", McCarthy would never have kept this squad up. He ran us into the hround.
