McCarthy: I Hope Fans That Hounded Me Out Enjoy the Sexy Football in League One
Wednesday, 24th Apr 2019 18:42

Former boss Mick McCarthy says he is sad the Blues have been relegated but in a spiky riposte to his detractors hopes that the fans that he says hounded him out "enjoy watching the sexy football in the first division”.

McCarthy, 60, left Portman Road a year ago this month, his relationship with fans having deteriorated markedly during the final two years of his five and a half at the club, culminating in a fractious afternoon at Brentford when he was advised by police to leave Griffin Park via a back exit.

“I was doing a good job there,” McCarthy, now back in charge of the Republic of Ireland, told Balls.ie when asked about Town’s drop into League One.

“My job is to win games and [to] stay in that league was my remit, and that's what I continued to do.

“I'm sad that they've gone down. Some of the lads are taking huge cuts in wages who were with me and who were brilliant for me.

“The staff, I've no doubt people will be losing their jobs because of it so that's going to be sad. It's a great club and pretty much most of their fans were brilliant with me.

"The ones that hounded me out, I hope they enjoy watching the sexy football in the first division [sic].”

My favourite moment of every home game? Looking at that dugout and seeing you not there :-)

How many supporters did he hound out of Portman road with his boring football and arrogance and abuse towards the fans
17k attendance v Swansea when we had already been relegated v. 10k when we were safe under Mick
Enjoy sexy football in league 1 - it will certainly better than the last 3 years under MM

When the crowd cheer a seagull catching a piece of bread at PR you know there is a problem. Too few moments to enjoy watching Mick's football I'm afraid. I wish him well for the future but FFS let it go now.

Merely confirming he had to go. Where are all the Premier League jobs Mick? No offers?
Sad old man.

I don't know why this was posted on TWTD. He did a good job until his last season fell apart with boring tactics and a failing relationship with the fans. MM is a man who will always try and get a little dig in as he feels bitter about his exit from Town. Therefore, can TWTD consider not posting comments from him? 'Moving on' is a two way thing.

Stick to your club Mick(oops you don't have one) and let us stick with ours, it must be sad and lonely out there with only a part time caretakers job to do.

Spot on, Mick.

Whilst they don't like being told these are the people responsible for our relegation. As they were told by Ian Holloway last year 'be careful what you wish for'. Well, they have got their rewards now.

And do you know what, he is 100% correct, the fact that these so called "fans" made his life a misery, then turned and says that it was his fault. Just goes to show that them and only them was responsible for MM to get annoyed and started to retaliate back. Of course they will never agree with this. These so called fans wanted an up and coming dynamic young manager. Well they most certainly got him did they not, now look where Town are.

MM's time was up... No guarantees we would be any better. Bring on Sheff Utd Leeds and league 1. Will be tricky!!

I have not commented on this site for a long time, but this classy person and some posters on here have really got me enraged. I started following the blues in 1962, with all the up and downs that entailed, the excitement and disappointment that involved. To begin with I supported him as he was our manager, but after suffering his boring tactics, strange selections, ridiculous substitutions and his pigheaded attitude, I gave up going to PR. When he left I was there when we lost 4-0 to Villa and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The only problem was I had lost my true attachment to the club, even with a new manager I couldn't even bother to attend, to begin with I would follow their progress on Sky Sports news, but gradually have even lost interest in doing that. I will of course always be a blue but thanks to him I feel totally disconnected to the team. Hopefully I may go next season but at present I am part of his true legacy. Thanks for nothing Mr McCarthy

I was one of MM's biggest supporters whilst he was here but he's made a mistake with these comments. There is absolutely no need to rub salt in an already infected wound.

Regardless of my own view, many fans wanted MM out even if that meant relegation would follow. Those same fans haven't changed their minds even after we have been relegated, and many are looking forward to life in division 3. So, this is what the majority of fans wanted, regardless of the consequences. MM's comments are unhelpful given the fact that so many people clearly wanted change. Shame, as he's probably alienated a few more fans by saying this.

I gave up my season ticket after the 16 / 17 season. In addition to the increase in the price for the over 60s I wasn't enjoying my cold Tuesday games watching Skuse & Douglas.
Last night Sky highlighted our last good season when at xmas we were 3rd on the table. If only Evans had invested at that time things could have ended so much better. It's a shame that

"well said" and "spot on"? ....I think not.

Mr M, you are MEANT to be a professional and all you are doing is acting like a spoilt like brat who wants his own way all the time. Whats next? Blowing raspberries and going Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah. Ok, we are down, but we are playing better football at times and mainly keeping the ball on the ground rather than watching hoofball and kick and rush under you.Lets see how long it is before the Republic of Ireland sack you for the continuous cr@p that you will be serving up to them! You're not God, all you are now is a washed up, self opinionated person who can only sit at the back and snigger at other people's misfortunes.
So much for the "Big man Mick".......Zero respect is all you deserve!

I have just bought my first season ticket, something I very much doubt I would have done if MM was still in charge of us in the championship next season. It is possible to play attractive attacking football and be successful on a budget. Unfortunately that was never going to happen under MM. I genuinely hope he makes a success of it with Ireland, but thought he maybe had more class than that comment. Anyway time to him and ITFC to move on.

I never gave McCarthy stick, and I guess he fulfilled his remit. But I think that his comments regarding our relegation say more about him than it does about us. Serves to reinforce my feeling that I wouldn't turn the clock back and judging by the atmosphere in the ground nowadays, nor would most fans.

one thing is guaranteed, Ireland will not be playing any sexy football for the next few years..

Typical of a pig-headed, self obsessed, self-important, overly self assured man who thinks the world of his own opinion, despite what everyone else knows.

I, for one, am fed up to the back teeth with this whinger taking pot shots at the ITFC fans who were struggling to cope with the dross he served up on a weekly basis.

Take it from me McCarthy, the VAST MAJORITY of fans of this club wanted you out. The fans got you out. You are NOT more important than the fans. You are NOT more important than the club. You are NOT more important than the style of football we play, even though we have been relegated to League 1. I'd rather watch this club play in The Conference than have your great, mooning face looming out from the dugout.

This is an entertainment business... you failed to entertain! YOU FAILED!!!

Not only were you a dismal failure, you decided to take on and abuse the fan base who paid your wages... what an idiot!

There really aren't many people who support this club who were sad to learn your smug fizzog was being ushered out of the door, never to return.

I'm sick to death of hearing your name, seeing your face and having your inane comments posted on this forum.

Enough is enough... I call for a ban on all things McCarthy!

Finally get to reset and Mick can close it all out, because he introduced hoofball at Ipswich so was totally responsible for the s***e culture. Never been the Ipswich way. Now we will build and be better, way better, when we eventually return.

Two comments:-
1) If MM & TC were still here we would not be relegated
2) Remember being at Villa Park in Jan 2013 (I think) for the FA Cup 3rd round singing to the Villa fans "Paul Lambert - he's taking you down" We lost thanks in part to a Darren Bent goal, who had hardly played all season, having (allegedly) fell out with PL,.
How ironic?

Just a thought Mick buddy...there's a current Yorkshire man managing his home team which we play on Saturday that has put a side together on a very similar budget to you in your time here at Town and was 16th in the budget table this season and is on the brink of AUTOMATIC promotion!!...and yes gets them to play in a reasonably entertaining manner.

Chew on that thought Mick buddy...
