Town continued their pre-season winning form with a win over the Swedish First Division side Gefle IF last night. Goals from captain on the night Mickey Stockwell (27), James Scowcroft (44) and Neil Midgley (77) won the game for the Blues. Town played a 5-3-2 formation with trialist Jonas Axeldahl impressing up front. Tanner, Holster, Holland and Magilton all missed the game through injury, with Stockwell limping off with a minor ankle problem. The majority hope to be fit for Friday's game with Giffarna Sundsvall, which will see Jermaine Wright make his first appearance in a Town shirt.

The papers are reporting today that Town have a bid lodged for a left-sided midfielder. The unnamed player was described by George Burley as "more experienced than Jermaine and I am hoping for a decision before too long." Blimey, they have been busy this last week.

Ipswich Borough Council has announced that Portman's Walk is to be renamed Sir Alf Ramsey Way. The move was welcomed by Town chairman David Sheepshanks: "We welcome this recognition of the outstanding contribution of Sir Alf Ramsey to this Football Club, this Town and this country. We are also looking forward to the commissioning of the bronze statue of Sir Alf Ramsey that will stand proudly at Portman Road." Quite right too.
