Lambert: We'll Look at Whether to Appeal Red Card
Sunday, 5th May 2019 15:53

Blues boss Paul Lambert says Town could appeal against the red card shown to skipper Luke Chambers during this afternoon’s 3-2 victory over Leeds at Portman Road.

Chambers was dismissed for the first time for Town for a foul on Whites striker Kemar Roofe, who subsequently hit the resultant penalty over the bar, and was sent off by referee Gavin Ward.

Under a 2016 rule change players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring opportunity should be cautioned rather than dismissed. However, what a referee deems a deliberate foul still incurs a red card. Chambers’s foul looked more a tangle of feet than a conscious attempt to bring down Roofe.

“I’d like to get that clarified and see where that is,” Lambert said when asked whether he felt his skipper had been treated harshly.

“I’d have to see what actually happens, whether it’s a tangle of legs or Roofe’s offside or he’s not offside, I’d have to see it.

“If they get given a penalty, that should be the punishment. To send him off is a bit harsh, if it is double jeopardy I think it’s wrong. I don’t know the referee’s take on it.”

Is an appeal against the dismissal, which as it stands will see Chambers miss the opening game of next season’s League One campaign, possible? “Yes, if that’s the case, then I think we’d have to look at that.”

The red card was Chambers's third of his career, his second for former club Nottingham Forest having come seven years ago.

No point in challenging the red card. They very rarely get rescinded, chambers shouldn't of got himself in that situation in the first place.

Please don't appeal Mr Lambert for captain calamity

If he was on-side it was poor defending to allow Roofe to get on the wrong side of him.

Wouldn't appeal, Nsiala needs a better partner next season than Chambers.

Unfortunately it's pointless most the time appealing and tbh chambers was the wrong side of him yet again as he was most the game and got punished for it.

Can't see any point in appealing. It will only be rescinded if the decision was a complete howler. Looked a foul, so appeals panel will back the ref.

Don't appeal unless you are going to ask for a 46 match suspension.

On todays performance I can see with a decent run of games "Toto" being our main man in the back four and with a decent partner we can with hope stem the tide of give away goals.

What a terrible shame there remain so many still intent on negative punditry ,especially at this stage of the season!
Wake up, grow up ,look forward ,be only positive ,show some tolerance and understanding ; LC alone cannot possibly be the reason for our demise !
We really do need to quell this arrant nonsense and determine to provide real proper and true support next season !

Really poor refereeing, I wish these refs would give these big decisions the respect they deserve. Too often the red card is out instantaneously (today, Knudsen at Wigan, Toto at Sheff Wed), given these decisions result in suspensions and often ruining games for spectators, I think refs should be instructed to take their time, consult linesmen etc

Good point Suffolk boy, not to mention the “bile” handed out out to people who go for being real supporters & accused of being “happy clappers”. Coyb

Please don't !!!

Captain Calamity tried to screw it up for us AGAIN. At least he will miss the start of next season. Hopefully whoever plays in his place keeps him out forever !!! Good captain but truly awful footballer.

Wow, great game today, plenty of excitement, goals and a long awaited win. Take a reall dumbo to moan about things today - but there are still some on here prepared to do so. Can't believe that they are part of the North Stand. Absolutely amazing support from you guys a credit to the club. I'd love to join you but my old legs wouldn't stand the standing.

The only downside was the poor officials - yet again.

Captain calamity needs to take a refresher course over the summer called basic defending for 5 year olds. Truly he must be the worst defender in the league by a long way.

Suffolkboy you're an idiot I think most people are taking positives even after our worst season in history just because the comments of there's no point questioning the decision in the census isn't being negative it's a fact the FA rarely overturn this. The fact is Chambers didn't have a great game or season not all the blame is on him this season far from it however today he was regularly out of position, regularly the wrong side of the attacker and has been most the season. Maybe just maybe the ones who go to most home and away games see the fact he does this most games and is a liability it doesn't make them wrong. The guy should be commended for his service but players can be criticised when playing like he does

Really enjoyed todays game, the fact is Chambers a liability, i am not taking anything away from todays positives but he will cost us dearly next season, he is a spent force and should hang up his boots!

Thanks for everything luke! but surely you know its time!

Ok, so LC hasn't always been on top form this season but he is a captain and as such a great leader for the youngsters in the team. I am sure many of them respect him and Skuse and we will need that next season with the youngsters coming through into the team. I suppose it's the “Mick out” brigade who want him out.....who will they hound out next !

It's f***ing blinkered idiots like you that is why we are in this position. Chambers is useless and the opposition teams know that and play to our big weakness. Do you actually ever watch any of the games?

You need to wake up and grow up and stop acting like it's your son playing on a Saturday afternoon and defending him for every mistake he makes!

He needs to be a great leader off the field not on it - because he is absolutely useless as a defender and if any youngster models their game on him the we really are in dire straits!!

Blueraider. Just wait until next season then as the refs do not get better as you plummet down the leagues.

Did anyone see against Sheffield United when Chambers had lost his man and they scored, he tried to jump on a balloon to pop it ......... and missed it. Ha ha ha ha what a buffoon.

Just the typical idiotic comnents being made on here. No, chambers hasnt had a great season but yesterday, defensively, that was the pretty much the only mistake he made. As usual some of his passing was poor but thats never been his strong point. But the total slagging off of him is typical of some of our so called fans. They have to have a scapegoat to constantly criticise. Been the same for some years. I remember matt richards being slagged off. Then knudsen was the scapegoat for a defence in which, if you look at the facts(we actually concede very few goals down his side of the pitch). Now hes been out of the team for a while chambers has taken the mantel. Have any of those of you slagging him off taken into account the fact hes had his mother seriously ill this year, and thats bound to affect him. But, like everyone of us, hes had to get on with doing his job duringvthis time, while unlike us, not having been able to visit her daily due to the distance between them. Hes a human being like the rest of us so i, for one will cut him a bit of slack. Should he continue to struggle for form next season then i would agree that he should be dropped. And i would certainly hope that any of you who dont do ur jobs as well as ur capable of wouldnt get slagged off the way ur doing to him.

Its clear that some "fans" on here will never give credit, respect to ITFC because their lives are such a misery that their only outlet is to slag of to have the need to be critical to only get satisfaction in finding fault with others peoples lives, They are not ITFC fans, just miserable people, not even deserving of care. Ignore their comments. COYB.
