Town to Announce Retained List Next Week
Wednesday, 8th May 2019 18:31

Town will issue their official list of retained players next week with discussions understood to be continuing regarding the futures of a number of squad members.

Manager Paul Lambert met with the seven players whose contracts are up on Monday but the club won’t be releasing any official confirmation of who will be staying and who will be going until next week with the deadline for submitting the retained list to the EFL the third Saturday in May.

Among those whose departures look certain to be confirmed are Jonas Knudsen, Jordan Spence and Simon Dawkins, while TWTD understands discussions remain ongoing with Dean Gerken, Grant Ward, Tom Adeyemi and James Collins. Town have an option to keep hold of Gerken, Ward and Adeyemi for a further season.

As previously reported, young defender Chris Smith and attacking midfielder Conor McKendry have been released.

Meanwhile, the Blues’ six loan players - Trevoh Chalobah, Matthew Pennington, Callum Elder, James Bree, Will Keane and Collin Quaner - have now returned to their parent clubs at the end of their spells with some of them having posted farewell messages on social media.

It depends on wages and fitness, but I'd keep Grant Ward and let the rest go. Let Lambert build his own squad.

9 players have gone including loans. Well that has taken a slice out of our overloaded squad, now get down to the nitty gritty of trimming whose who ??

Adeyami? Really? Pay if you are fit?

Considering the need to significantly reduce the playing squad, I'd be surprised if we retain injury prone players like Collins and Adeyemi. Neither have played so what is the point? Gerken isn't good enough in my opinion. Ward is however an interesting one. Could do a job in League One. Once fit ...

Adeyemi has to go, Ward in League one ‘might be ok' and Gerken is a good back up to Bart. We only need a few good additions in defence and attack and we should be competing for the title.

Adeyemi??? Really ?
Daft beyond belief to keep him on any deal.
Money needs to be spent on players who play

In the seven seasons before joining us Adeyemi had played at least 20 games in every one, whoever he played for. At Rotherham he scored 7 goals from midfield in a side that got relegated. Really frustrates me that we've seen none of that as I genuinely think he'd be a decent player for us.

Of all those mentioned, surely one to hold onto Is Ward.

@ohmycampo, spot on with first four on list, especially Chambers Skuse and the useless Dane, thereafter I think you've lost the plot!

a load have to go and should have no qualms. If our coach is all he's cracked up to be a big statement must be made after a disastrous season. Then bring in some footballers, not half measures

Chambers and Skuse will not be going anywhere. Sears Downes and Bishop are certs to be here and agree with others Ward could do a job in Division One but has to buck up as he does flatter to deceive. Whatever happens it is important to get the balance right with youth and experience as Division One will be tough make no mistake. As for the goalkeepers would not bother me too much if both left and we could get a fee for Bart although not what we could have got a couple of seasons back. Gerks is a good number 2 but we need a new face between the sticks - probably a bit too early for Harry Wright.
Interesting times at ITFC

Lets also not forget those who will leave/ be sold whom we might want to keep but wont be able to because they want to play at a higher level or will be offered more money elsewhere

There is n assumption on here that everyone will want to stay, that obviously will not be the case, the drop in wages as reported and if true I think will see some looking for another club. Lets hope we keep our good young players at least, we will need some additions for sure but I honestly believe with a handful of additions that we can take the first division at the first time of asking.

Yet again, we seem to be faffing. We have known we are down for weeks so why all the delay? Seems to sum up the management of the club

Gerks will stay as we need to get Bart off the wage bill irrespective of the wage cut in % terms

It's the Skuse and Chambo wont be going anywhere comments, I find alarming.
Ultimately resulting in us not going anywhere as a team unfortunately. Both simply not consistant or good enough.
Yes picked by all previous and current manager. But how much lower can they lead us, remains to be seen.

Just see someone write that Skuse may not be staying, one can only hope.

I think we've found another budgie on the site Ohmycampo 🤔 either that or you never go to games to get rid of Bishop, sears and Downes is moronic to say the least!

The only youngsters I would keep are- Bishop, Lankester, Dozzell and Emmanuel. Would love to see all defenders but Nsaila and Emmanuel binned. Also Skuse.
Buy a striker, a centre half and a left back, and make Judge captain

Personally feel the squad is in need of a much needed overhaul and I'd be very disappointed to see any of these players kept on. Gerken has had ample opportunity to take the no1 spot this season and has failed to stake any serious claim and never will, Adeyemi has been stealing a living these past two years, Ward is bang average, and Colins will spend most of the season on the treatment table.

PL signalled some time ago the need for some experienced players in League 1 and praised Chambo and Skuse so whatever we think they wont be pushed out but hopefully might go of their own volition.
Apart from them Knudsen and Spence will definitely go. Not so sure about Adeyemi, could depend on his medical prognosis would be useful if fit and playing regularly. Huws back would be great as we would have some solid midfield options.
I think Bart will go if a reasonable offer comes in. Gerks could be moved on if his contract expires during the summer. Key priority is the defence and strikers. Looking forward to see how it all shapes up......

chambers and skuse are the experienced needed in some form. ward over rated and Adeyemi pointless. I am sure the main reason for the final decision will be a financial one and those who wish to stay. Knudsen and spence are gone and who in the uk would pay any money for bart. I would not be to hopeful of any talent being bought and poor old lambert has to now earn his wage rather than talk a good game.
