Town to Announce Retained List Next Week
Wednesday, 8th May 2019 18:31

Town will issue their official list of retained players next week with discussions understood to be continuing regarding the futures of a number of squad members.

Manager Paul Lambert met with the seven players whose contracts are up on Monday but the club won’t be releasing any official confirmation of who will be staying and who will be going until next week with the deadline for submitting the retained list to the EFL the third Saturday in May.

Among those whose departures look certain to be confirmed are Jonas Knudsen, Jordan Spence and Simon Dawkins, while TWTD understands discussions remain ongoing with Dean Gerken, Grant Ward, Tom Adeyemi and James Collins. Town have an option to keep hold of Gerken, Ward and Adeyemi for a further season.

As previously reported, young defender Chris Smith and attacking midfielder Conor McKendry have been released.

Meanwhile, the Blues’ six loan players - Trevoh Chalobah, Matthew Pennington, Callum Elder, James Bree, Will Keane and Collin Quaner - have now returned to their parent clubs at the end of their spells with some of them having posted farewell messages on social media.

So many views from fans who knows best, or think thet do. Lets just hope we get the balance right for next season. We need some experienced heads along with our youngsters. There is always a risk with injury prone players like adeyemi, Ward, bishop, but on the other hand could be quality in League one.

Chambers will be found wanting in Division 1, he'll never cope with the intensity! Underestimate Division 1 at your peril! The arrogance of so many here!

Jackson, Harrison , Lankester, Judge, and Sears will all score goals at this level, another striker added to squad would be great, Downes, Huws ( if fit ) Bishop, Dozzell and Nolan need a strong midfield player added to team and for heavens sake Lambert sort out the defence! Then finally we may have something to cheer about!

I imagine discussions with Ward are around a new contract on reduced terms. I believe he is one of our highest earners having come from Spurs. He hasn't worked out as hoped. Good in patches but no consistency and that is not a luxury we can afford. So if he signs a new deal on lower wages then great, if not I imagine we will cut our losses and let him go. Gerken and Adeyemi - same issue with wages. Gerken on low wages an ample back up until Wright or Egan are ready. Adeyemi offers something different if fit and if on lower wages might be worth it. Spence just useless. Knudsen was clearly going ages ago

Can't say i'd be sad to see any of the above leave..Challobah was immense in patches and we'd never afford Quaner.

One thing we need to do is to stop pinning all our hopes on injury prone players, especially loanees.

New GK,2 full backs,1 centre back,1 midfield general & 2 strikers needed.

No point relying on players who looked out of their depth in the Championship (looking beyond next season) and there's quite a few, but saying that few might do a job in league one and could be a case of a number of them that no doubt will be staying and need to get some confidence but not a question in my mind a few additions need to come in, a central defender, a goal scorer and maybe a holding midfielder.
