Blues Norwood Move Close to Completion Wednesday, 15th May 2019 16:25
Town will reportedly complete the signing of Tranmere striker James Norwood following Rovers’ League Two play-off final with Newport County.
The Blues have been linked with the 28-year-old, whose 32 goals this season won him the League Two Player of the Year gong, for a number of months with his contract up this summer.
According to the Daily Mirror Town will pip a number of clubs for Norwood’s signature, including Burton Albion and Fleetwood Town, with the move set to be confirmed following the May 25th final.
TWTD understands that although Town’s interest is very significantly progressed, the deal is not yet concluded, however, the Blues appear very much in the hotseat to make the 5ft 9in frontman their first summer addition once Tranmere's play-off is done and dusted.
Norwood was a youth player with Brighton, Crystal Palace and hometown club Eastbourne Town before breaking into EFL football with Exeter, with whom he made three starts and one sub appearances.
During two years with the Grecians, he also spent time on loan in non-league at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough, before joining the Green Devils on a permanent basis in 2011.
Following his release by Forest Green, the seven-times-capped, four-goal England C international joined his current club in the summer of 2015.
In 2017/18, Norwood bagged 23 goals when they returned to the EFL via the play-offs following three years in the Vanarama National League. He scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Boreham Wood in the final.

I would have been happy signing him if we were in the Championship so it'd be fantastic to get him in League One! Norwood has scored double the goals in a season that Jackson did to earn his £1.6m move to Ipswich.
Great signing on paper but only time will tell. As we've seen with the players we signed last season, stepping up a division can be very hard. If he can replicate the number of goals he's scored for Tranmere then we've hit the jackpot.
Most importantly he quite evidently has both an eye for goal ,and the knowledge and ability to get in the right position ! Let's see what he can do ! – and it does look as if we've been ahead of the game this time ! COYB
This would be a great signing and possible intention for the season it could also make a difference who else we sign. Anyone who can get 30 goals in a season clearly has some talent plus he's improved goals wise season on season with 20 odd year before so not a one season wonder. Please make this happen.
On the face of it a very good signing Just need to sign someone to create the chances for him, and not lump the ball aimlessly up to him like we did Jackson, Harrison, Keane and Quaner. Hopefully he will be part of a 2 man strike force too (but will not hold my breath :-(
I'm not going to get too excited yet. This is only the Daily Mirror talking and I don't like announcements like this before the lad has actually signed. Too many have fallen through at the last minute.
But... if he does come at least he knows where the net is, that's something he has over our current crop of strikers.
MM always said he would get his transfer business done early, PH claimed he would too....neither came close....ever!
If this is another sign of our Club doing things properly again then I think we can start to have some genuine optimism both for some more additions and for the coming season !
I have to say I was a bit 'iffy' about this move before seeing the him play in the play-offs on TV after what happened last summer - the 1st leg he missed 1 guilt edged chance but was always involved being a nuisance, the 2nd leg he just ran his butt off and scored a good goal. If he can continue in that vain for us he would be a good signing and has topped the EFL in goals scored and surprised no club bigger is interested in him.
One thing for sure I bet the Tranmere supporters are disappointed he's going.
Too score 32 goals in any league is impressive & for a team that weren't deemed to be 1 of the favourites to challenge for promotion: not seen a lot of him only watched him in the playoffs clearly can hold it up, good movement & it was a excellent finish on Monday when you can score with both feet, good in the air & penalty scorer let's see what the lad can do: be great to get most of our signings done by the time we head to Germany in July:
I think he would be a really good player for League One but also I would be massively surprised if it's us that he chooses. I would be looking to play in the Championship if I were him.
Always suspected PL's denial of interest might simply be a diversionary tactic. If this goes through - and I'm not counting any Suffolk Punches just yet - I think it will be a very good signing at this level.
The last guy from Tranmere turned out to be pretty damn good. Excited about this. Someone who knows where the net is and is 'streetwise' by all accounts
