Gills Keeper Holy at Town for Medical and to Finalise Deal
Friday, 24th May 2019 11:24

Gillingham’s Czech keeper Tomas Holy is at Portman Road today to undergo a medical and to finalise the details on what would be a Bosman free transfer to the Blues.

News of Town’s interest in the 27-year-old first broke last Saturday with Holy having been offered terms by the Blues. The deal is not yet done but we understand is close to completion.

Rychnov nad Kněžnou-born Holy, believed to be the world’s third-tallest keeper, came through the ranks at Sparta Prague but featured only for their B team - having spent time on loan at Graffin Vlasim, Viktoria Zizkov and Fastav Zlin - before joining the Gills in the summer of 2017.

Holy, who has won caps with the Czech Republic at U16, U17 and U18s levels and who was linked with Arsenal last summer, was an ever-present for the League One Gills during 2018/19 and in total made 107 appearances for the Kent club.

Town have spoken to a number of out-of-contract keepers since the end of the season - Exeter’s Christy Pym and QPR’s Matt Ingram among them - with Championship clubs having already shown interest in Bartosz Bialkowski and with Dean Gerken having been released at the end of the season.

Looks pretty steady to me. Saved a lot of one v ones judging by the video. Let's hope all the teams defend as badly as Gillingham!

Love that we are doing business early. How great would it be if come pre season in July we can get a few fresh faces in already.

Thailand blue. I doubt he made as many errors last season as bart did. Amazes me how some think a keeper is gonna save goals everytime his defence cocks up.

Youtube show-reel looks very exciting, but when you independently go looking for other videos of the goals he let in last season to impartially balance it out, I'm not as convinced as some on here. Seems getting down really is an issue at times, but would welcome him if signed up. Not sure I'd be happy if he was our number 1 though.

He punched the ball up to the half way line, who needs to catch it? seriously though, he does look very agile for a tall man. He looks (from the video) that he commands his box very well and makes quick decisions in relation to coming off his line and collecting the ball.

I'm sure he'll be just fine. It's not like we will be attracting the top keepers. Beggars can't be choosers.

From the video, seems a good shot stopper. Anyone know how he is at distribution, or with the ball at his feet after a back pass?
