Chambers: Big Pre-Season
Friday, 31st May 2019 14:40

Skipper Luke Chambers says it will be a big pre-season both for the club and for him personally when the squad return to Playford Road on Monday 24th June.

“I’m enjoying the summer and spending time with my family but I’ll be relishing going back for pre-season when it comes around,” Chambers told iFollow Ipswich.

“It will be a massive pre-season for the club and for me personally. The manager is working hard to get players in and, while in an ideal world you would have your squad in place for the start of pre-season, that rarely happens.

“Some players have moved on and it’s going to be a clean slate. It’s an opportunity to build again and get everyone together and going in the same direction.

“For me personally, it’s massive as well. Over the last three or four years I’ve had niggles and not had the fullest of pre-seasons, this year I want to be clear of all that.

“I’ve been working hard over last few weeks and I’ll be remember come June 24th when we go back and we have to hit the ground running.

“Pre-season tests you as a team and as individuals. It’s really tough and we will see what the group is made of over the first week or two.”

The squad travel to Germany for a training camp between July 4th and 15th during which time they’ll play their first friendlies with a game against Paderborn at the Cronsbachstadion in Steinhagen having been confirmed with the Blues set to take part in a tournament which is expected to include two matches the following weekend.

Town will subsequently play domestic friendlies against Colchester United, Cambridge United and Notts County with no further first team pre-season games to be announced.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Jonny Williams has been released by Charlton having helped them to return to the Championship via the play-offs.

The Addicks have cited financial reasons for discarding the 25-year-old Wales international, who joined them on a short-term deal from Crystal Palace in January. Swansea have been linked.

What sort of fan doesn't want their team to get better?

ArnieM. In answer to your question, any player who consistently performs badly, for the club I love and spend fortunes following.
And yours Dolphinblue, we are currently in the 3rd tier....unbelievable I know but fact.
All managers have picked Chambo, regardless of form or ability.
We have steadily declined throughout that time.
We now look forward to playing the likes of Bury f.c, Rochdale and the like.
This is the level we've reached consistently picking players who don't and can't perform.
Carrying on in this way will not win promotion.

But not all Chambers fault...yr not real fans, real fans get behind their team

Dolphin Blue, Chambers is employed and paid £1000's a week. He isn't doing a good job. Its that simple. Serious football teams don't pay people to do a bad job. Nothing to do with being a supporter

ITFCsince 73: it s clear that Chambers is coming to end of his playing career. I actually do my expect him to be a regular beyond this season, if indeed during the whole of this season. But Chambers does have a role to play at this Club. Why on earth would Lambert totally discard players like Chambo and Skuse when the squad is going to be so young and inexperienced. It's sheer folly. Both these players DO a hell of a lot off the pitch , if not so much on it these days. Loyalty by players to their Clubs is a rare commodity these days - Most looking for a fast buck and move
on.

I think the sheer hatred afford towards Chambers , a good professional is beyond a joke, and totally unwarranted, and it's a sad reflection of the modern game and modern fan I think.

Yes Arnie, agree with what you say.
But the fact is. If we are to achieve any kind of success in the coming season, we can't afford to be carrying anyone, not for one match and certainly not for the entire season.
Because we have 1 or 2 players who do such wonderful things behind closed doors, that is no use to us in regards to making a serious, real promotion push.
Just look at Luton, Barnsley and Charlton.
And a few other teams who failed to get promotion, they all had good, strong on field leadership.
And defences that you could rely on. Players who didn't perform would be dropped, no matter who they was. This unfortunately won't be the case for us.

Yes Dolphinblue great idea....let's fill the team with under performing players.
And get behind the team, to show our support....get real.

Jonny Williams is tempting …..an very exciting and brave player. Probably too brave often putting himself in harm's way....e.g going in full tilt for 40/60 balls. I think that his main injuries were broken leg and groin problems. Does anyone know his injury history with Charlton? A fit and mature Jonny Williams would be a tremendous asset for us.

It's funny how these posts start with serious discussions, and by page 3, have descended into people just abusing each other. Norwich fans must just flick to page three of the posts of any story when they need a good cheering up.

The saga over Luke Chamber's fitness to continue as a central defender rolls on and on.When he was used as a right back he was continually exposed by his lack of pace, and the same applies now. He may well have other qualities that make him a trusted and loyal servant at the club, but the one that is the most important to the club and ultimately to the team is his footballing ability, and that is the most important factor. He is primarily paid to do that job.I think back over many years of support and recall the defensive pairings that we have had, most of whom acquitted themselves very well in performing that role. It is a must be sorted before that start of the forthcoming season, and if there is not a candidate among the younger players then we need to buy one as a priority.

Insofar as Chambers is concerned, I note that all the professional managers (McCarthy, Hurst and Lambert) selected him.

Chambers has been a good club man and in past been a good captain, BUT he has not been a skilfull player, and last two seasons has shown he is slowing down both physically and mentally ,he is slow to react and makes too many mistakes. Unfortunately Lge 1 is quite frenetic and i dont think he will be any better this coming season.Nice bloke, but now a liability on the pitch.

@arnie, giving it ‘large' again! Let's not forget just how ‘trigger happy' you are! I mean ‘injury plagued' Collins was going to save us after his debut and part played in an ‘epic' back to the walls win! You can't see any further than the end of your nose!

warktheline. You're pathetic mate! You constantly slag other posters comments on here like you're some kind of oracle on everything Town. Suspect you're the classic armchair fan that hasn't been to a game ( if ever ) in years. If I can't see beyond the end of my nose then you must certainly talk out of your arse mate. How about you sit down in a bench and muffle your trap and give us all a break. Cheers.

This is a site of mature adult opinions I hope----whilst Chambo is not perfect the number of time I have seen him lay his body on the line, literally, is too many to mention, especially away from home.

To me he is our leader and will lead us straight back up next season.

Just my honest humble opinion.

Give me strength.....Ipswichbuisness look where that's got us....
Can anybody give justifiable reasons why our captain, who is in his 30,s, is going to improve as a player and captain??
Being a great bloke or being a great landlord wont get us promoted.

If you are the 'captain' then surely you are in charge of the team on the pitch are you not?
Luke Chambers has been void of ANY leadership this past season and looks totally out of his depth in so many areas. If he has had to deal with personal problems then I am really sorry for him, genuinely I am, but you don't bring it to work and if there is any possibility of this then you don't come to work, simple as. This is the procedure where I work and i'm sure most other work places. We get on his back as his is the 'boss' on the field and thats all there is to it. Its just ironic that when he was sent off against Leeds, the whole team played better, and worked as a team. In other words, the weak link is LC and should not be played next season in my view. we are all REAL supporters who have been jarred off with mediocre rubbish served up and we have had enough. If Chambers is no longer fit for purpose, which he isn't, then stop playing him. Running around like a headless chicken does nothing for me or anyone else!

MM knew how to use players that cant play which is why we used to play hoofball, but you try play through the likes of 4 and 8, you'd expect your cdm to come and collect the ball of the CBs but no ours goes missing only to be seen in shot when we concede falling in the goal.

We WONT have a plan b c or d IF or when it goes ti*s up. Preseason will be the telling point.. And preseason does paint a picture. Don't think it doesn't. All games are to be won.! V anyone

Oh Rabbit, come on mate!
You mark me down but you know as well as I do that this is fact, just look at the stats.
The guy is totally clueless and will continue to ham things up if he is allowed to captain the team again. Indeed, he will mess it up if he is just in the team in the first place.
