Town Confirm Przybek Signing
Wednesday, 5th Jun 2019 11:34

Town have confirmed the signing of former West Brom keeper Adam Przybek on a two-year deal with an option for a further season. TWTD revealed yesterday that the 19-year-old, who spent time on trial at Portman Road earlier this year, was at the club to undergo a medical and complete the formalities relating his move.

"I'm delighted and I can't wait to get going," Przybek told iFollow Ipswich. "This a new challenge for me having been at West Brom since I was seven, but one I'm very much looking forward to."

Przybek came through the academy ranks at the Hawthorns before being released this summer without having broken into their first-team squad. Last season he made 22 appearances for the Baggies’ U18s without featuring for their U23s.

He also spent time on loan with Gloucester City and Rushall Olympic prior to three weeks on trial with the Blues in January and February in which he featured in the 4-3 U23s defeat at Crystal Palace when he evidently caught the eye of manager Paul Lambert and goalkeeper-coach Jimmy Walker.

English-born Przybek has won U16s caps with England and has played at U17 and U19 levels with Wales and was recently on standby for their U21s squad. He also qualifies to play international football for Poland via his grandparents.

Przybek, who was on loan at Worcester City in 2017/18, will be viewed as an U23s keeper next season and his addition may allow the Blues to send Harry Wright, 20, out on loan to gain first-team experience elsewhere during 2019/20.

Town have now made two signings this summer, Przybek and fellow keeper Tomas Holy, with striker James Norwood set to become the third when, as previously reported, his long all-but-done free move from Tranmere is finally confirmed next week.

The 28-year-old, who is currently away on a family holiday, is set to sign a three-year deal with an option for a further season.

Goalkeepers are like buses, you don't sign any in 4 years then 2 come along at once.

This guy signing has nothing to do with Bart, if you read everything you'll see he is seen as an u23s keeper for next season so we can loan out Harry Wright.

Bart may well leave but this is not his replacement - i think this is one for the future he's been in the u18's at WBA so the next step for him is to play a season for the u23s and then maybe go out on loan next season we can then see if he cuts the mustard before we take up the option on his extra season .....

Nothing to do with Bart, he is coming to play for the U23 with Wright more than likely out on loan so effectively 3rd choice keeper.
Although I have heard Bart is more than likely leaving.

he wont be Barts replacement [if he goes] he is still a kid on a learning curve. Does seem strange that we get one in to allow Wright to go out on loan ,but i suppose it makes sense to the club .

Everybody saying this has no impact on Bart... I wouldn't put it past us not signing another keeper now if Bart goes. If this lad is going to play for the U23s, Harry Wright may have now become Holy's understudy. Time will tell, hopefully we'd replace Bart with another senior keeper but Evans will be looking for every opportunity to cut costs in League One.

If he was any good, wouldn't he be going to another championship club or higher or just staying at West Brom?

Can we sign Norwood before the last of the summer win runs dry. It seems very dragged out, it's starting to drive me Norwood Batty! The club is going to look a bit silly if this one falls through. I haven't been that excited by any of our signings particularly in a long time but I am excited about Norwood. The last time I got excited was when we were meant to sign George Boyd from the Posh only for it to fall through at around 5 mins past midnight! Norwood does excite me though as he seems to really have an eye for goal and I think whether we get him or not could make a big difference to our chances next season. I'm not sure how he would do in the Championship (he might be up to it, hard to say) but I am confident he would do well in League One given the right service.

Get someone proven at League 1 or higher and also develop Jackson and Harrison, forget Norwood.

To be fair to the club I expect Norwood and his agent gave them assurances he would sign ahead of the Play Offs and the Tranmere celebration holiday afterwards. But I've just got a bad feeling we might get gazumped. Really hope I'm wrong but it's hard not to be paranoid when we've been starved of good quality signings (Waghorn apart) in a long time.
