New Ipswich School to Be Named After Robson
Thursday, 6th Jun 2019 10:31

A new Ipswich school is set to be named after legendary Blues and England manager Sir Bobby Robson.

The Sir Bobby Robson School will be built on the former Holywells High site in Lindbergh Road.

The special school, for 60 children aged eight to 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs, is due to open in 2020 with the name having been chosen by parents and community leaders.

Mark Robson, Sir Bobby’s son, said: ”I'm sure dad would be as pleased as we all are to have his name associated with such an important educational facility.

"Ipswich will always have a special place in the hearts of our family and it's an honour and a privilege to have a new school named after dad here."

Tim Coulson, chief executive of the Unity Schools Partnership, who will run the school, added: "Sir Bobby's name stands for facing triumph and adversity with the same passion and enthusiasm."

Great news. Hopefully the school will be able to help children who need just a bit more help and support. If both staff and pupils need a role model, or motivation to succeed in adversity, the name on the tin will surely provide it.

Fitting tribute. I've worked with Tim Coulson and he's a similarly top guy.
