Chambo: Supporters Will Expect a Reaction
Thursday, 6th Jun 2019 11:04

Skipper Luke Chambers knows that fans will expect him and his team-mates to deliver next season in League One and that the positive mood generated during the final months of 2018/19 won’t last long if results aren’t forthcoming.

“The supporters will expect a reaction when we get going after last season, and rightly so,” Chambers told the club site.""

“I’ve said it before that as players we got away with ‘murder’ last year, with a positive environment about the place even though we weren’t winning games. "

“That won’t last long next season though and we will need players to step up and deliver.

"We will need the younger players to do that and we also need those experienced players who have been there before and know the league to lead the way.

"It’s an opportunity to bounce back at the first time of asking and that has to be our aim.""

“When the players come back for pre-season [on June 24th], I’ll be saying ‘We’re not here to have a fun time. We’re here to win matches and get out of this league’. That will be the message I’ll be saying.”

We certainly need a bit more steely eyed concentration : the evidence speaks of talent and skills within the squad but we need to see that matched by absolute concentration and much much more belief .Teamwork throughout the pitch, excellent communication and a repeat of the camaraderie of previous successful campaigns should see ITFC winning games and rock solid throughout the FULL 90 minutes ( starting , please, from the moment they step on to the pitch !).

SHUT UP CHAMBERS.....

We expected a reaction last year and you were not good enough...........Just cancel your contract and stop spouting cliches and BS.
Do it on someone else's time and money.

Stealing a living.

We as supporters don't need to cowardly slag off players or coaches. Use criticism well, not from the gutter

A lot will depend on who we sign, particularly Norwood, but ultimately players like Chambers must step up and lead in league 1.
Need to hit the ground running and win games.

It is vitally important we win games, score goals and bounce back the first time of asking.

In a way, we are in precisely the same position as we were when relegated in 2002. Expectations have fallen pretty far since then. But if we are to grace the PL once more, we've got to get out of League 1 the first time of asking and keep that momentum going another year.

Here's to lots of goals, lots of wins and keeping the dream alive!

Now that McCarthy has gone it would appear that Chambers is the new default spittoon for those supporters that feel the need to spout bile and hatred.

Maybe I'm just an old fart but it seems to be the modern way. Goes hand in hand with the behaviour of Trump, the demise of centrist politics and the rabid, jingoistic Brexiteers. Hey ho.

Hampstead - how depressing on a day when Phil has talked about people being more reasonable on here. Criticise yes; abuse no.

Poor old Chambo, I suppose it's important to see the war cries. It's just they wear a little thin after a while! I think clubs like Leeds, Forest, probably need this sort of attitude, or the fans get heavy.

Don't get me wrong, we desperately need a team of winners - and attitude can give you an extra 20% as we've seen (Champions League, even Villa).

I'd love to see Lambert change the paradigm and build a squad of winners in his own mould, bloody minded, determined, and don't take well to losing, can't bear it, not accustomed to it.

Rather than primarily worrying what the fans are thinking. I'm sure Chambo gets this, and it's tough to be captain in the circumstances.

Us fans will expect us to be up for the fight and ready from the first minuite, the majority of us do not expect us to "walk the league" but anything less than playoffs will be a big disappointment and bad season. The "new grounds, new teams" vibe won't last into the second and has third seasons.

we wanted a reaction after Paul Hurst left and didn't get one. This time round ITFC have no choice but to start fast and positive or the feel good factor that is around the club at the minute will soon change. COYB

First and foremost we need to get the defence and goalkeeping positions right - hopefully Holy will solve the goalkeeping problem. We conceded so many cheap goals last season it was unbelievable. Still not sure we have the answers for a solid and dependable back line at the moment. The jury is still out on Nsiala for me and is Chambers the dominating centre back we need - I am not so sure ? A great Club man and motivator but will that be enough ? This new adventure is not going to be easy so it is vital that we win most of our home games and with our support we can do it. Agree with others top 6 at least is the priority.

you said it Chambo, and were one of the main culprits, when it came to poor performances last season. You have been blessed,in being selected week in week out. Given a new contract ,now shake a leg and prove you are worthy .

Begs the question how many games does Lambert get this season. Need to be top half after 10 games and challenging for the play-offs after that. Anything less and the atmosphere could turn toxic very quickly.

So this is Chambers saying that his leadership was wanting last season as the group were 'getting away with murder', well where was he? And, by the way, this isn't poisonous criticism, he has raised his head above the parapet and come out with his views and we all have the right to reflect on them. By what he said the players were basically 'having a laugh' at our expense - not a smart admission. The group is obviously too soft, something that PR Paul hasn't mentioned or done anything about. All the time they were singing the praises of the fans they were taking us for us for a ride. Wonderful. At least he's being honest, unlike his manager, who still just needs a little bit of help!

The Teams that get out of this Division lose only 4 or 5 matches during the season.

They also win the majority of their matches.

I just hope that we find some consistency as there are a lot of tough Teams in League 1 who'll fancy their chances.

We can do it but it's going to take a big effort and everyone needs to be at it week in week out.
