Chambo: Supporters Will Expect a Reaction
Thursday, 6th Jun 2019 11:04

Skipper Luke Chambers knows that fans will expect him and his team-mates to deliver next season in League One and that the positive mood generated during the final months of 2018/19 won’t last long if results aren’t forthcoming.

“The supporters will expect a reaction when we get going after last season, and rightly so,” Chambers told the club site.""

“I’ve said it before that as players we got away with ‘murder’ last year, with a positive environment about the place even though we weren’t winning games. "

“That won’t last long next season though and we will need players to step up and deliver.

"We will need the younger players to do that and we also need those experienced players who have been there before and know the league to lead the way.

"It’s an opportunity to bounce back at the first time of asking and that has to be our aim.""

“When the players come back for pre-season [on June 24th], I’ll be saying ‘We’re not here to have a fun time. We’re here to win matches and get out of this league’. That will be the message I’ll be saying.”

We needed a reaction last season on so many occasions.
No more false promises or false hope.

Keep your fist pump to yourself until we're promoted.

So the players got away with murder last season? so much for your position as leader of the pack your job on the park is to motivate those around you and inspire! the only conclusion I can come to is those around you(and your bestie no/8) watching the dire performances produced thought why are we bothered those two are taking the money and the p1ss we will do the same hence our wonderful season!!!!!

Offering Chambers a contract and retaining the captaincy was a terribly poor decision. His performances and lack of reliability do not instil leadership or confidence. However, given that he is staying on in the role, it is inevitable Chambers is going to act as spokesperson for the club. The issue most fans appears to have is that its the same empty promises that were rarely backed up by performances. Perhaps just knuckling down and getting on with it would suffice.

No,he is not solely responsible for our demise, far from it. but the captain should be the heart of the team, imposing and dependable. A new contract should be offered to players who have earned and deserve it. Most importantly, players who can make a contribution on the pitch.

My opinion is based purely on his current (last two seasons) footballing ability, nothing to do with his previous ITFC service or personality. The fact he is a smashing bloke/bleeds blue blood should not be justification. It certainly isnt necessary for people to verbally attack him with such vitriol, particularly post season. However, some contributors (Dolphin Blue) should really review the season just gone and see how many times he was beaten in the air, beaten for pace, lost his marker, missed a tackle and probably the most guilty of all....gave the ball to the opposition. Passing to a player in the same blue coloured shirt is a prerequisite in football.

Poor old Chambers.
He can't say anything can he 😂
Yes he was very poor last season but so we're the vast majority of the players. Even the mighty Bart!
He will be here next season. This we know.
Perhaps he will find division one to be more to his standard next year and excel and inspire us all?
Only time will tell.

lol,1 week before the big kick off we'll probably hear Chambo say "It's going to be harder than you think getting out of League 1, we're under no illusions how tough it's going to be, League 1 is a tough old League...etc,etc,etc" or something like that in order to prep us for our mid table position.

The club and the team has been crying out for a change in on field leadership for a long time now.
Our win percentage over the last 80 games confirms that.
A win percentage that is an embarrassment to the club and team.
We as a club have decided to reward that leadership over the last 4 months.
And alarmingly have decided to carry on with it.
Time will tell if that's a good decision made, but make no mistake.
It's a huge call, and a very brave one.

All you Chambers lovers on here (presumably because he says hello to you - get a life he is just a normal bloke) can not deny the fact that he was by far our WORST player last season!! He's another year older and he will be another year slower and more useless on the pitch. If you supported the club you wouldn't want to see him picked in the team week in week out!!

How can he say they got away with murder when we had the worst most embarrassing season most of us can remember? I don't think anyone got away with anything, especially you sir.

@carbeery,
I think he meant that they were so bad, but the fans didn't get on their backs and give them hell and we're supportive. I don't think he means everyday just taking the piss. That is how I read it anyway

Every player should expect a reaction...playing in the third tier of English football is very sad for a club of Town's ilk and the history that's gone before it. BIG season coming up for many players and particularly Lambert.

I think the problem with Chambo is that PL expects him to play out from the back but he doesn't have the football ability to do this without giving away the ball.He was more suited to hoof all. Also obviously he's loosing any speed he had due to age.smashing bloke tho.

🤣Chambers confirms what any knowledgeable supporters have been saying week in week out and still they pat their skipper on the back! Unreal!😂
