Norwood at Town to Complete Move
Monday, 10th Jun 2019 17:00

James Norwood’s proposed move to Town moved a giant step closer today when the striker’s car was spotted at Portman Road and the club confirmed he is scheduled to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.

Provided all goes well it seems the 28-year-old striker, who was the country’s top scorer last season with 32 goals for Tranmere as they won promotion to League One, will become Paul Lambert’s third summer signing after the capture of goalkeepers Tomas Holy and Adam Przybek.

It has been on the cards for several weeks that Norwood was Portman Road-bound but he spent time in Magaluf with his Tranmere team-mates and then with his family before travelling south today to complete the formalities, provided the medical examination goes without any hitches.

Some supporters had grown uneasy by the lack of activity regarding Norwood but today’s major development should see him Norwood become a Town player and then return for pre-season training with his new colleagues on June 24.

Norwood, who helped Tranmere win the play-offs, bagged 23 goals as they won promotion to League Two by the same route in the previous campaign and returned to the EFL after a three-year stint in the Vanarama National League.

Eastbourne-born Norwood, who is 5ft 9in tall, was a youth player with Brighton, Crystal Palace and hometown club Eastbourne Town before breaking into EFL football with Exeter, with whom he made three starts and one sub appearance.

During two years with the Grecians, he also spent time on loan in non-league at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough, before joining the Green Devils on a permanent basis in 2011.

Following his release by Forest Green, the seven-times-capped, four-goal England C international joined Tranmere in the summer of 2015, going on to net 92 times in 180 games for the Wirral-based club.

This is great news and hopefully we will get this over the line in the next 24 hours.
As per a couple of my previous comments hopefully people will allow the new management team and perhaps an owner that is learning lessons do their jobs.
This is a great signing and as one or two others have referenced not that different to a certain Grunt Hog (Grant Holt) up the road.
The feel good factor is on the up, the Manager appears to know what we need to do - signings made early bodes well, the youngsters are capable and have more experience - the signing like Nolan, Nsiala are proven at this level and perhaps we may even have Huw's, Bishop and a couple of others fit - add to that Judge - one of Jackson/Harrison plus a fit again Lankaster - Dozzell, Downs, El Mizouni, Skuse - Woolfenden, Emmanuel. Kenlock, Cjhambers we have a squad that is proven or has experience and potential at this level, I know not much about keepers and assume Bart will leave.
For me we appear to be making the right decision - I am certain from a reliable source that Will Keane will sign - we have to support, give this team the transfer window and a few games to see what happens on and off the pitch.
Those moaning about the previous mistakes are wasting their time we cannot change the past just the future - I look forward with optimism but pleased with what I see in front of me today. COYB.

But I'm confused, everyone said he wasn't signing 🤪

Brilliant. Just hope he doesn't get cold feet. Let's hope Lambert has another Grant Holt on his hands only this time he will be playing for us. Once a goal goal scorer always a goal scorer. History tells us that and I've seen a lot of those in my 60+ years supporting this club.
I'm looking forward again to the new season after a real downer. COYB.

If Will Keane does not sign then perhaps someone like David Nugent could be a good alternative. A proven goal scorer at many clubs and make it a potent strike force for the season ahead with Norwood. Always scored against ITFC so is it time for him to score for us.

Yes but as Einstein said, the definition of madness is doing the same thing (in this case under investing) and expecting different results.

Great signing. Just needed someone to put the ball away as we certainly missed it last season. Did I see Nugent is coming as well?

As it's a free, possibly makes him the clubs highest earner, once Barts gone.
If he scores goals, then worth every penny.

This proves that to lower league clubs and players we are still considered to ba an attractive club. Still need a target man but this is a positive start.

ohmycampo is a Norwich fan who has nothing better to do but sit on an ITFC forum.

A proven goal scorer is what we need and most have been calling for......that's what we're getting here and I think it's an excellent signing. Coupled with Freddie, Lankaster, Judge and Bish (Hopefully Huws too) I think we're a lge1 force to be reckoned with. What's your opinion Bluearmy 81? We never know as you spin every article round to the same subject!

Kingfisher, I wouldn't take Nugent if he played for free! That would be insane after the number of times he has snubbed us!

He will be a great signing for us. You know James, scoring a goal is very much like making love to a beautiful woman, you undo the defence, get yourself into position, and bang it home. Let's hope you can do that a few times for us next season!!

This is really good news. Very positive about this guy. Even if we don't get anyone else in, we should be able to compete. But hopefully this is not the last new arrival for the new season.

Clever move by Norwood as he knows that he could be playing in the championship in 2020., good step up to a big club by him

SaxonBlue that was in MM time so perhaps under PL he would be interested. Just another proven goal scorer which every club needs. And for a defender someone like Phil Jagielka would certainly gives us strength in the spine of the team. Aim high to get proven players as we certainly need a few old heads alongside our youngsters.

Keane will be another Mcgoldrick five games a season at most

Saxon, once confirmed I will be happy about this signing, he could do well for sure. I still think we need to sign 2-3 others, not just freebies no one else wants, that are markedly better than what we have, including a CB, RB, and not lose who we have (Bart gone in my eyes though .) Unless we do this top 2 is far from assured and not going straight back up next season would be, quite simply, a disaster.

Watch him get injured in pre season....I hope not!

The National Press had gone quiet on Norwood, so assumed it was a done deal. Pleased this one is getting over the line. One more striker please along with a Right Back, Centre half and another goalie for when Bart departs.

must be cr@p because Evan's hasn't spent millions on him - right?
