Town and Doncaster Linked With Former Miller Ball
Wednesday, 12th Jun 2019 10:44

Town and Doncaster Rovers are reported to be interested in released Rotherham defender Dominic Ball, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Aberdeen.

Reports earlier in the week claimed free agent Ball, who is primarily a centre-half but also operates as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder, had turned down the offer of a contract by the Dons, however, according to the Press and Journal, the terms are still on the table but with the player having told manager Derek McInnes that he’d prefer to move back to England with the Blues and fellow League One side Rovers both interested.

Centre-half is an area of the squad which Town boss Paul Lambert appears certain to add to over the summer with skipper Luke Chambers and Toto Nsiala his only senior central defenders with loanee Matthew Pennington and short-term signing James Collins both having departed.

Youngsters Luke Woolfenden and Corrie Ndaba will both hope to put themselves in Lambert’s first-team thoughts in pre-season.

Ball, 23, was a youth player with local side Watford before moving on to Tottenham’s academy. While at Spurs he spent time on loan at Cambridge United and Rangers before joining Rotherham on a permanent basis in August 2016.

The 6ft-tall Welwyn Garden City-born defender was a Miller for three years but made only 14 starts and one sub appearance for them, spending all but five months of that time out on loan at Peterborough and then Aberdeen, for whom he made 31 starts and nine sub appearances last season.

Ball was capped by Northern Ireland at U15, U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels and by England’s U19s and U20s.

I accept, compared to some clubs, that's still not much comparatively, but try telling derby fans spending multimillions gets you success.

At least they were competitive and didn't go down due to acute underfunding!! Ffs you lot are truly special.

Interesting player, technically good, would not be an understatement to say likes a tackle and is very competitive, watched him play various positions, usually def cm but as detailed can play further back, could be a good signing.

Let's get this accepted once and for all - Bluearmy_81's posts show he is absolutely right about everything and the rest of us know nothing.

if he is free we look, if his wages are low we will look. Now is it not really sad that doncaster can compete with us for players

tractorboybig - If we believe what we are told we are more attractive than Swansea, Hull and one other to the country's top scorer last season. Is that sad given we are a division below?

Blue_army, Norwich signed Pukki on a free last season and we all know how crap he was! Actually I believe they spent nothing while we spent about £3.5 -4m and look where they are now compared to us.

Skip I'm guessing you're a naaaarwicher. Just to remind you you paid 2 mil for Buendia

It is relatively irrelevant what any other teams spend on transfers and proves relatively nothing to most people but for the record NCFC spent a bit under £4.5 mil with a £36mil income from sales, SUFC spent around £6mil with an income from sales of around £11mil and ITFC spent a bit under £5mil with an income from sales of around £10mil.
Out of the two play off finalists it was only AVFC who spent more than they received in sales which was around the £2mil mark.
But hey Bluearmy_81 why let facts get in the way of you proving your point.
Just to make it clear to anyone who cares I am desperately upset that my team has fallen into the third tier of English football and I accept this does not happen without mistakes being made over the years, but to keep suggesting this is all due to the lack of spending is total nonsense.

Rabbit, it is by far the biggest factor. You can't take the under investment last year in isolation, it has been going on for years and for that reason relegation had been coming for some time. Sorry but if someone can't see that I can't help them.

Ok Bluearmy_81 you have failed to respond to two previous threads because you had no answer....
So, today I'll ask you to provide the evidence of under investment compared to other promoted sides and how much they spent in net terms, because, obviously it wasn't a factor last season.

Trained by Watford and Spurs and won youth caps with Northern Ireland and England. It suggests a promising start to a career which has slightly lost its way. We can put it back on track! Could be a real bargain signing?

I'm surprised he wants to consider League 1 after playing in the Scottish Premiership! He sounds like the kind of guy we need although I am a little concerned with his lack of height. However if his legs are strong its likely he will be able to rise to the occasion. Only time will tell.

Very sad to see the lynch mob are out in force, strength of numbers making you feel good? Let's get one thing straight, a lack of investment and mismanagement have resulted in the place we find ourselves. There is a direct correlation between money spent on transfers and wages and league position. Since Evans took over we made the play-offs once because Murphy had a stellar season - nothing else. We've been hanging on until the ignominy of this season, so what makes people think it will get any better with the same philosophy, even with super PR Paul in charge - the manager who has achieved nothing except adding another relegation to his CV?

Gerkensbeard, I'm not a Naaarwicher, I was just pointing out that some frees are good signings and Pukki is a good example. If I was I would've known that Buendia cost £2m. Just because I disagree with Bluearmy doesn't make me a scummer.

Signing Ball would be a no brainer played regular Scottish premier football last season as for the numpty on here (we all know who he is) who said he was released by Aberdeen when he actually turned down the contract offered get your facts right first before commenting.
