Millwall Boss Tight-Lipped on Bialkowski Link
Friday, 14th Jun 2019 10:09

Millwall boss Neil Harris has refused to comment on links with Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and a number of other players.

Bialkowski, 31, is understood to be interesting the Lions, who are very much in the market for keepers with David Martin having joined West Ham, Ben Amos's loan from Bolton having ended and Jordan Archer having decided to move on this summer with his contract up.

In addition to their interest in Bialkowski, Millwall are believed to have had a bid turned down by Portsmouth for Jamal Lowe and are said to be eyeing QPR’s Matt Smith.

“We’ve been linked with players. Some are right and some come completely from nowhere, players from countries where we’ve never heard of the player,” Harris told London News Online.

“We have never recruited from abroad, so it’s not likely we will sign one from Outer Mongolia on a 12-year contract.

“Some will be true — that we have enquired about or made a bid for. Sometimes reports come out but we like to do our business in private and not alert other clubs to what we’re doing and what we’re spending.

“When it does come out it comes out from one place — and that’s an agent. I won’t be talking about individual players at other clubs.”

As well as Millwall, Birmingham City are among a number of clubs eyeing a move for Bialkowski, renewing their interest from last summer.

Town are understood to be willing to consider bids for the Polish international, who is the highest-paid player at Portman Road following the bumper new deal he signed last year after returning from duty with Poland at the World Cup finals in Russia.

That new contract followed the Blues' refusal of a £3 million offer from Birmingham for the former Notts County and Southampton man, who, following a tough season for both club and player, is likely to fetch significantly less this summer, £1.5 million having previously been reported to be Town's valuation.

League One football will do nothing to improve Bialkowski’s international prospects and despite having said he is happy at Town - and that he plans to live in Suffolk once he retires - a move back to the Championship is likely to appeal should a club - whether those already linked or another side - firm up their interest.

Whilst Millwall is somewhat of a surprise, I'm expecting him to leave!

You gotta love the clubs recent transfer policy... turn down £7m for DM, release him
for free, sell Rhodes for 900k, release Marriott on a free, give Clarke away as a make weight, turn down £5m for Bart now sell him for £1.5m... someone at the club needs to get a grip... but I guess all aspects of the club have been running well below standard for some years now. I'm hopeful with PL in charge things will finally change.

Oh dear, Millwall.
It's like sending your only son to Castle Black and the Nights Watch....

Lathers, if we'd taken big offers for players in recent history we'd have been accused by some of selling off the family silver. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. As far as Rhodes was concerned he was sold by that knowall tool Keane just days before calls were going out asking people to renew memberships to our youth set up!

Why are we expecting him to leave?
1.5m is peanuts for an experienced, quality proven keeper.
Norwood is on the same kind of wage. Chambo not far off.
Tell Millwall he ain't going anywhere.
I'm not expecting him to leave.
Sorry Millwall, don't expect the Bart anytime soon.
The Bart ain't leaving, so don't expect him.

I hope you're right 73, would love him to stay. Sadly at his age he'll be chasing a place at the big internationals and lge1 won't give him the exposure he needs.

I have always been clear that he is the better keeper out of him and Gerken, however I don't think he is as good as a lot of our fans think he is. Good shot stopper, not the best on crosses and the least said about his ability with his feet and kicking the better. A really good keeper needs to have all three of those.

Now we are in League 1, we need to get his wages off the bill.

Lathers I think you have a valid point to a certain extent, there have been so many mistakes made over several years. However the owner, by virtue of the fact he continues to invest in the business, clearly has ambitions for the team which has led him, presumably with advice from the various managers, to try and hold on to certain players and roll the dice with others.
Not withstanding that you will have read from an earlier post the owner still gets accused of asset stripping, which I'm embarrassed to admit made me laugh out loud, because obviously that poster has no idea what asset stripping actually is!
Lets be clear asset strippers make money and move on they don't still keep investing.

ArnieM, absolutely spot on. we do have an overhyped view on him based on his shot stopping ability. He does, and did during his POTY seasons, have a tendency to conceed soft goals. think this is why none of the bigger bitters in the championship have come in for him.
