Mayor Joins Plymouth
Monday, 1st Jul 2019 15:25

Town target Danny Mayor has joined League Two Plymouth Argyle, the Pilgrims have confirmed.

Mayor, who officially became a free agent today with his Bury contract up at the end of June, is reunited with his former Shakers boss Ryan Lowe at Home Park.

The 28-year-old left winger spent time looking around Plymouth last Wednesday where he was offered terms, before taking a trip to Suffolk on Thursday as he continued talks with Town, while other clubs, including his former loan side Tranmere, were also believed to be keen. It’s unclear whether the Blues went as far as offering a contract.

Mayor says it was the chance to work with Lowe once again which persuaded him to move to the South-West.

“Everyone knows my relationship with the gaffer at Bury. There’s no doubt that he got the best out of me last season," he said.

“You just have to look at the stadium, the surroundings; it’s a wonderful set-up. That really sold it to me.”

Mayor’s decision to join Argyle means manager Paul Lambert will have to look elsewhere for a left-wised addition to his squad.

Hmmm, gotta say, nice part of the country down there, first team football too, bit disappointed because he has good flair about him, never mind, but hopefully they'll be no dithering on players we really do want..

"Nothing to see here move on. Next "

I wonder how many more times we will read that over the next coming weeks ?

Not bothered by this at all. In all honesty I hadn't heard of him before we were linked with him.

Bart is the problem here. Marcus told PL and the end of the season to shed wages before bringing anybody in and all was going nicely before the talks with Millwall broke down. Don't expect to see much more transfer action until that is resolved.

interesting comments on here. surely dross (as some put it) is all that will be interested in coming here and this one must feel that a div two option is better than us.!

I don't know much about the fella, but regardless of his relationship with the gaffer at Plymouth, you would have thought we'd have been better placed to attract him both in terms of wage and club facilities. It therefore suggests we may not have entered into serious negotiations. Let's hope PL has other targets though as we need to sign senior professionals good enough to challenge for promotion.

Some on here are hilarious. He believes he could not get in the team in front of Sears on the left!!! Simple truth is we did not make an offer and they did.

No idea if there were serious negotiations or not ... but the facilities in Plymouth are outstanding and far above what I would expect for many Championship sides. They use the Life Centre and MarJon Uni facilities a lot. Both sites are training sites for many Olympic medal winners. Regularly see Plymouth Argyle players and coaching teams at both sites when I am there on a regular basis through work.

Today is July 1st. As of today all the bosman free,s see there contracts come to an end, and are free to sign for whoever they like.
You would expect all the better players in this situation will be snapped up 1st and fast.
As it's clear this is our market, when will the 1st one be signed??

Surprised by the reactions on here. I thought there would be many more complaints. For most people it seems like water off a duck's back. For myself, I really don't know what to make of it. Were we serious or not? But as Saxon et al. said, we move on...

Who said we offered him anything, he came for a look around but has gone to where he is known and probably guaranteed a starting place. I wish people would stop being so negative about our club, if we sign someone they have to be the right player, it's pointless signing people who are not the right fit.
Good to see some youngsters signing up for the first team, I think we will do OK with what we have but as I have said before some quality back up would be good.

Dozzells-Bobblehat .......... I Googled it and it said....

"Cue typically refers to a signal that encourages someone to take an action, while queue indicates an ordered line or file."

I think that in the context of your first post, 'Cue' would have been the correct one to use.

Beegholt - hmm - you could be right. Although, a line or file of comments maybe ?? Dunno . I think you're probably right . I do think we are both a bit sad to be discussing it though . Now shush I have to iron my anorak .
