Mayor Joins Plymouth
Monday, 1st Jul 2019 15:25

Town target Danny Mayor has joined League Two Plymouth Argyle, the Pilgrims have confirmed.

Mayor, who officially became a free agent today with his Bury contract up at the end of June, is reunited with his former Shakers boss Ryan Lowe at Home Park.

The 28-year-old left winger spent time looking around Plymouth last Wednesday where he was offered terms, before taking a trip to Suffolk on Thursday as he continued talks with Town, while other clubs, including his former loan side Tranmere, were also believed to be keen. It’s unclear whether the Blues went as far as offering a contract.

Mayor says it was the chance to work with Lowe once again which persuaded him to move to the South-West.

“Everyone knows my relationship with the gaffer at Bury. There’s no doubt that he got the best out of me last season," he said.

“You just have to look at the stadium, the surroundings; it’s a wonderful set-up. That really sold it to me.”

Mayor’s decision to join Argyle means manager Paul Lambert will have to look elsewhere for a left-wised addition to his squad.

Looks increasingly likely that we're not going to spend any money at all.

We're not spending until we've dropped some salaries and the falldaown in talks with Millwall over Bart has stalled any further dealings. ME is not spending before we sell, those are his instructions to PL. laughable that some have criticised this guy's lack of ambition when we have an owner with none.

Was it a " Can you play left back" ? or a " Would you accept a pay cut " ? Maybe Danny Mayor must of heard Marcus Evans cashing in any good player worth something. It is hard to think that Plymouth can offer more than a big club like Ipswich.

Clearly the plan at Plymouth, is to get championship football asap. A very astute manager, who sold the idea to Mayor.
Considering Mayor is so highly regarded and plays in a position we need filling its dissapointing.
I wouldn't have thought a player would go on a tour of clubs unless all those clubs had put their cards on the table.
Yes we maybe in the Bosman free market, but the ones worth having will be snapped up instantly.

You could say that he lacks ambition but he is going with the devil he knows ie The Manager and to live in a beautiful part of the country..close to Cornwall etc and who knows if we don't get promoted and Plymouth do he will be vindicated won't he...

Div 1 is going to he hard..we have no divine right to success ..lets show our class ...respect our opponents and players who decide ITFC is not for them and unite behind the club ...they will need that kind of support this season...look at Sunderland as an example .
