Blues at U's and to Host Gills in EFL Trophy
Friday, 12th Jul 2019 21:43

Town are set to play Colchester United away and Gillingham and Tottenham’s U21s at home in the EFL Trophy, according to the U’s.

The North Essex club’s website says the Blues will travel to the JobServe Community Stadium in the week commencing November 11th for the clubs’ third Group A game.

The U’s say they will be away against the League One Gills in their first game in the week commencing September 2nd and at home to Tottenham’s youngsters in the week of October 7th.

Therefore, the Blues will face Spurs U21s at Poprtman Road in the September game - U21 sides only play away in the group stages - and host the Gills in October. The precise dates are still to be confirmed, although it's likely the game will be on Tuesdays.

Two teams will progress from the group with the usual three points for a win and one for a draw. However, with matches level at 90 minutes going straight to penalties, a further bonus point goes to the winners of the shoot-out.

Town and Colchester meet one another in a pre-season friendly at the JobServe Community Stadium next Friday (KO 7.30pm).

Perfect scenario. The smallest possible travel and allows us to focus on the league while keeping momentum here.
