Bishop Out for Three Months, Nsiala and Lankester to Miss Start of Season
Thursday, 18th Jul 2019 17:08

Teddy Bishop faces three months on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Toto Nsiala and Jack Lankester will also miss the start of the season due to injury, the club has confirmed.

Bishop twisted his knee awkwardly during the friendly with SV Meppen at the Interwetten Cup and there were fears that the 23-year-old could have suffered a cruciate ligament injury of the type suffered last season by Freddie Sears, Grant Ward and Ben Morris, all of whom are expected to be sidelined for between nine months and a year.

However, it’s been confirmed that the midfielder suffered medial ligament damage and is facing three months out.

“Bish is wearing a brace at the moment and with the injury he has, we are looking at three months or so recovery time,” Town head physio Matt Byard told the club site.

The injury is a blow to Bishop, who had been fit for the longest period since his 2014/15 breakthrough season until Sunday. However, he may to some extent be relieved that the problem isn’t quite as severe as feared.

Nsiala, 27, will miss the first few weeks of the season having torn his hamstring in the Fortuna Dusseldorf game at the Interwetten Cup, while Lankester, 19, has suffered a recurrence of the back problem which saw him absent for the final months of last season.

“Toto tore his hamstring in the game against Fortuna on Sunday and he will certainly miss the first few weeks of the season,” Byard added.

“Jack had a stress fracture of the back over the second half of last season. He has been progressing well and played in the games in Germany but he’s had a bit of a reaction.

“It’s quite common with the type of injury Jack has had to get setbacks along the way. It’s a case of letting things settle down for now but he’s another that won’t be ready for the start of the season.”

Depressing news before the season has started. Injuries are part and parcel of the pro game, which is why a degree of strength in depth is required to ensure squad resilience. Feel for the boys who are injured - best wishes for speedy recoveries. In Bishop's case he needs to be mentally strong and determined; but there has to be a question mark regarding his ability to withstand the physical rigorous of pro football.

With our current crop of injuries, and with little strength/experience in depth, action needed to provide reinforcements. To try and wing it won't work.

All the talk of Bish being injury prone so should be off loaded......can you imagine the backlash had ME decided this a fortnight ago and sold him? Hindsight is a wonderful thing hey? The hypocrisy on here really beggars belief sometimes!

We need to keep Huws, Judge, Lankaster, Bish and Norwood fit because with our current defence we will concede goals so these guys are our best chance of possibly outscoring teams. Now two of these are injured of judge or Huws gets injured were right up s$!t creek! We have to invest some money in a commanding centre half in the ilk of Berra, de vos and Mowbray don't care how old but we need a talker who leads by example we also need another striker

Regardless of who plays we're finishing mid table this season at best. Like Dozzell, Bishop has done nothing in his career so far. Yes he skips past the odd player now and again and we all get excited but in reality he's another Luke Hyam. We'll be okay this season but if you think we're taking the league by storm you'll be disappointed.

All I can say is, Thank God Bury and Bolton are starting on -12 points so there are only 2 relegation places up for grabs.

Skip73.. only 3 teams will get relegated, so one place up for grabs!

How far we have stooped, to be be relieved that 2 teams are starting on minus 12 in the third tier of english football!

Sad times indeed !

Skuse at centre back may not be a bad option. He does read the game well and usually knows when and when not to put a challenge in. Only question mark maybe his heading ability.
Unless we get someone in soon then Skuse could be the man.

People need to get their heads out of bishops backside. He's a waste of space and just hasn't got the body to stand up to professional football. He's been given more than enough opportunities by Ipswich town fc to prove himself. Just a waste of a squad number and a waste of a wage. He cant even complete 90 mins let alone a season.

Don't keep expecting Mr Evans to do anything positive with this club HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT IPSWICH TOWN, it's a poor performing subsidiary in a very successful and profitable group. He regrets getting involved and looks to reduce his losses every Summer by flogging any assets of value. That's the game plan, PL has been told to find a defender within the ranks or one that is really cheap (a guy that cant get into the Lincoln City first team for instance).
PLEASE STOP ASKING EVANS TO ADDRESS ISSUES, HE DOESN'T CARE AND UNTIL YOU ALL START TO MAKE HIS LIFE A BIT MORE UNCOMFORTSBLE BY SPEAKING OUT WE ARE STUCK WITH THIS TYRANT.

At this rate, we may have to give Skuse a starting spot. More back and sideways....great.

So we glean from the foregoing that ME is at fault for the ITFC injury list and he is a "Tyrant", you really couldn't make it up.
There is, as I have written before, no doubt that huge errors of judgement have been made although at the time all looked positive, the best example of this was the much heralded appointment of Roy Keane, who by and large most ITFC followers thought was a superb choice, how wrong could we all have been.
Thankfully the owner has not walked away and still backs the business, he is now working with even tighter controls in balancing the league rules on sustainable salary caps etc. simply look at the problems of poor old Sunderland who's owners insist they want to invest but can't due to these reasons.
The Sunderland squad has again this season been trimmed and they only have 2 or 3 free signings to boost their squad.
It is tough at this level and there are no guarantees, relegation was never going to be a good thing, my only hope is that due to our size and continued backing we do get back to the top.
With regard to ME not being interested, well, how do I know, but what I do know is that when I end up in a position where I am paying for something I no longer have interest in I stop paying.
Before the negative comments from those posters who have a different idea may I respectfully suggest you take a very long look EFL rules and pay particular attention to SCMP which will answer a lot of questions about this seasons business so far.

At ITFC we all live and wonder what is coming next.Injuries are part and parcel of life as a professional footballer. We need to take stock and read between the lines with optimism. The squad list was announced yesterday and numbers 2, 3, 5 and 12 still to be taken. Perhaps PL has ideas to fill those shirts and it might be the guy on trial and others including an experienced loan player. We must wait and see until after the friendly to see if PL considers Wilson to be good enough, if he is then believe in the guy and give him a fair crack. Negative vibes are not any good to the squad, so give one and all of them a chance.

Nobody has blamed PH yet.
Surely something can be dug up that'll pin this latest spate of injuries on him?
