Lambert: Dozzell Would Cost a Helluva Lot of Money
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2019 22:58 by Darren Campbell/Phil Ham

Town manager Paul Lambert says a Premier League club would have to pay “a helluva lot of money” to land midfielder Andre Dozzell. TWTD revealed yesterday that a number of top flight sides, most notably local rivals Norwich City, are keen on the 20-year-old.

Asked about that interest, Lambert said: “Dozzell's playing really well at the minute. I've not heard anything about that but if a Premier League club comes knocking then they would have to spend a helluva lot of money.

“He's a really good footballer, the lad, he really is. He's really technical, really good footballer. A lovely left foot, and he's still learning the game, still developing into the game. But a really technical, very good footballer.”

As previously reported, the Canaries, Brighton and Crystal Palace are all interested in Dozzell with the Blues having received a number of enquiries this summer, while AFC Bournemouth are also believed to be monitoring his situation.

Town have opened discussions with academy product Dozzell, who came on as a sub at Notts County this evening, regarding a new contract in order to keep him at Portman Road. The former Copleston High School pupil is contracted until next summer with the club having an option for a further season.

Town are believed to value the England U19 international at around the £5 million mark, while it’s likely the interested Premier League clubs would be looking to do a deal with less cash up front, perhaps nearer to £3 million, with further top-ups based on senior appearances or other milestones as his career progresses.

With judge on his way for peanuts because he has gone to the manager saying he wants out , it will be suicide for our promotion chances if both these players exit the club at this late stage of pre season without Evans reinvesting into our already inexperienced and thin squad

15 million for most teams. 50 million all up front + 50% sell on fee on ALL monies for the Scum.

Not on what I saw last season Paul, yes he has 'potential' but not work ethic. Anyway it's not up to Lambert if a Premier club put a reasonable offer in for him and went...there would be big unrest at PR if Dozzell went too but personally can't see it.

ITFCZombie - no fee has been agreed for Judge and Lambert has said he is unsure at the moment what the player wants. Let's at least wait for a body before we have an autopsy.

I also highly doubt anyone is going to match our valuation on Dozzell at present. Maybe next year.

Do the Scots say "helluva"? He really is immersing himself in Suffolk ways.

Sell Dozzell and Judge and next Paul will be saying our midfield is slighty on the huh.

In these current times, where Tyrone Mings can increase in value from £8m to upwards of £20m after a total of 32 games since leaving Town, I wouldn't class £5m for Dozzell as being “a helluva lot of money” - to most Premier League clubs, that kind of amount is peanuts, and easily affordable to them on a punt for his potential.

We should be placing a price tag of £15m on his head (whether we actually think he's worth it or not) and make any interested clubs pay the kind of fees that other clubs seem to be able to command for their youngsters with potential. Especially in light of losing Bishop for 3 months or whatever, and Judge now looking likely to be wanting to leave...

No less than 15mil, unless it's Norwich in which case there's not enough money in the world.

Wouldn't sell them a virus.

However if he says he wants to leave he will go for peanuts just like Judge. We are doomed. How long before a low offer comes in for Norwood? and he wants to leave due to the lack of ambition of the owner /club.

So Lambert hasn't heard anything about this, said that about QPR offers for Judge if I'm not mistaken? Why not just say he's not for sale rather than put a price tag on him?

......anyway, whats the point of contract discussions? The ink isn't dry on Judges but looks like he's on his way! Never mind, the more they move around the more 10%'s for the agents to get fat on!

After the feelgood factor built up after our most disasterous season it was inevitable that the bubble would be burst sooner or later.

Lambert said our young players are our future so if that's really the case and we are not just a feeding ground for other wealthy Clubs than just say NO.

Unfortunately we have an Owner who has not invested in the Club. OK he has kept it running but if he'd brought in our own players maybe one or two a season we would have avoided the situation we are now in.

I've supported Ipswich for 58 years, mostly as a season ticket holder, but I had a feeling this would happen once the dust had settled and the Club had cashed in on the supporters goodwill .

and folks that's the reason I did not renew my ticket!!!

So you didn't renew your season ticket because you thought we'd sell the youngsters, and the fact we're negotiating a new contract with Andre somehow proves you right Terry?

Think his dad will be telling him play regular football for Ipswich instead of sitting in a prem reserve team, plus you are getting a better contract.

Judge could be a class player in this division, however if he went I think Rowe would do well in that position so not the end of the world, but I would expect the fee we received would be reinvested in the team (hope)

Agree with you 100% terryf.

Still amazed that the ticket tout and his P.R man managed to shift 12,000 season tickets on lies and false promises.

As for the bubble bursting?

What bubble?

Sorry, but I failed to get involved with excitement of having the worst team in living memory toward the last few games of the season.

I could see us selling Dozzell to a premier league club in exchange for a season long loan back.

Would make a lot of sense to all parties and would soften the blow of losing yet another promising player.

The lad does not look happy to me. Worried he is now going through the motions a little which might have something to do with his injury. Still not seen the spark he had before he got injured since his return. hate to see him go, but maybe getting some proper money (7 figs not 6) makes sense....the problem is, just like Judge, you can have the money but where can you get people with equivalent talent to play in League 1 ?!

If we have to, let Doz potential be realised now, and dig our heels in with Judge.

Northstand veteran. What lies and false promises? Or is evsns psychic? So ur saying he knew there be bids for judge and dozzell, that judge would want to go, did he? No, he sold season tickets on the basis that both these players would be here. And they might still be. And tbh, I dont think wed actually miss either of them if they do go. Judge isceadily replaced by Rowe, who offers much more creativity than judge. And, certainly at col utd fri night, dozzell did very little, as he didnt last season neither. Yes, he has potential, but do have many of our youngsters over the years. And very few have gone on to fulfill that potential.

Its being said what did Judge do last season?
An experienced, quality midfield player struggled to get to grips with how poor we was.
What chance did Dozza, a 20 year old have....
If you put him in a Quality team, with quality players around him, you will see a completely different player to that of last season, who was out the whole previous season with a serious injury.
He needs to move.... but the fee needs to be right, with big sell on.
Wouldn't be suprised if he ends up in Germany.

Can't believe the scum will buy him. But money talks and he may be on his way to the Premier League. Whoever said, take a punt on him, in these comments, is right. We are third division after all with a large squad for that level. Players don't move for regular first team football nowadays, they move for status and to set themselves up for life. The Premier League is light years away from where we are, and the fact that we are now two leagues away from the scum, who will never need a trophy cupboard, is highly depressing.

Blues 1. Cant speak for NSV or anyone else.
But I was under the impression going into preseason.
We would strengthen an already poor, poor squad.
Just 2 or 3 quality additions to make us competitive.
Of course any key player to leave would be half replaced.
Players released by L2 clubs, it would appea, is our idea of strengthening.

After supporting the club for close on 50 year.
Yes I for one feel aggrieved, to say the very least.
