Blues Linked With Alternative Bialkowski Swap
Monday, 29th Jul 2019 23:44

The Blues are being linked with an alternative swap deal involving keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and Blackburn Rovers striker Joe Nuttall.

While Bialkowski is understood to have been at Millwall today with his loan switch “at 99 per cent”, according to reports in Poland, and Elliott at Town to complete the formalities relating to his switch to the Blues, Alan Nixon of The Sun is claiming another swap involving the keeper and a striker could be possible.

According to the report, the Polish international has been offered to Blackburn with Blues boss Paul Lambert keen to land striker Nuttall ahead of Blackpool, who were linked with the 22-year-old earlier in the week.

While the deal which would see Bialkowski join Millwall for the season appears nearing its conclusion, Elliott’s move to the Blues still had a fair way to go as of earlier this evening.

As reported earlier, the 28-year-old was at the club this afternoon to undergo his medical - which is likely to pay particular scrutiny to the grade one hamstring strain he suffered at the start of pre-season last month - and to complete the other formalities relating to his switch.

The fate of two deals is understood to be linked, while Town's loan move for Wolves keeper Will Norris - also at Portman Road this afternoon - is believed to be done and dusted but won’t be rubber-stamped until Bialkowski has departed.

While Nuttall may well be a player who has interested Lambert, the ongoing swap deal with Millwall is well advanced and - barring any significant stumbling block emerging - looks set to be completed at some point tomorrow when Norris’s loan switch should also be confirmed.

Whether Bialkowski, who has said he and his family are settled in Suffolk on a number of occasions, would entertain a switch would see him almost certainly need to relocate to the North-West is also a moot point.

Bury-born Nuttall, who is 6ft tall, started his career with Manchester City’s youth set-up before moving on to Aberdeen, during which time he had spells on loan at Stranraer and Dumbarton.

He joined Blackburn in 2017 and has made nine starts and 28 sub appearances for Tony Mowbray’s side, scoring eight goals.

Seems like a pretty good goal ratio for a 22 year old and a lot of sub appearances

Interesting, particularly if Nuttal is fully fit given the injury doubts about Elliot. Lets see how this plays out......

I'd much rather this than Elliot. Last thing we need is another injury prone player.

I wish this is credible, but like others on here I find that hard to believe given the 'source'

Interesting. Is the Nutall deal a loan or permanent? Good stats for the lad, and good age. But the Millwall deal has merit as well, it means we get a 6'4" striker and get Bart back in a year's time. If Norris's hamstring is nothing to worry about, that is a good deal. The striker we need is someone with a physical presence and aerial ability. At 6'0" Nutall is presumably not that type of striker. I'll put my trust in PL on this.

Whilst you don't have to be a giant to be good in the air (e.g Smith & Berra), how many goals did we score from set pieces last year? This once used to be a feature of our game and at every corner we used to be a credible threat. Our current lack of physical presence is a concern and we now have Garbutt and Judge who both can deliver a set piece, something else we struggled at last year.

We mustn't allow ourselves to get bullied this coming season.

Whatever his other merits Elliot will give us this presence if only regularly introduced from the bench in the last 30 minutes. I think a 6' 4” lump who has proven he can score regularly at this level on a season loan with no strings attached is a very good move for us. This gives us time also to get our other strikers fit without necessarily hampering their long term progress. Nuttal may have loads of potential but really if this is the case why did we sell Ellis Harrison to Portsmouth.

so we are being off loaded a sick note......we are being had over by mill wall......but we can always send him back and we have off loaded bart.
lets face it we are only going to get someone else crap so why not stick with our youngsters.

A year or so ago Bart was considered pretty much the best goalkeeper outside the premier league. Better than several in it by all accounts.

Now a ‘loan' move to Milwall seems to be on the table?

What's gone wrong? The alleged 20 bag a week he's on? Sudden loss of form? Or basically he and lambert don't get on?

The fact that we can't seem to offload him for half decent money is baffling.

Why does a hamstring strain make him a sick note? Love how some people regularly put 2 and 2 together and come up with 56 on here.

Why are some of you doubting The Sun. Best coverage of football of all the papers.

Barts value has dropped for several reasons last season he was playing in a very poor team which would effect any goalkeeper also constant changing of the defence means it's hard to get an understanding also as the contract gets smaller he is less value to the club he's a bit older too and the reported knee injury he knows this would be his last chance of a move for better money and security for his family so you can't blame him for taking it and of course the club are trying to lower the wage bill .

Nuttall was the sub who came on last season - and should've got a straight red for a 'tackle' on Luke Chambers.

Would much prefer Nuttall to Elliott. As for Bart going, need to get rid of that wage bill and think we may have had the best years out of him anyway?

I just wish Bart would hurry up and go because as a Club we can't go anything until his ridiculous wages are off our wage bill.

Surely he will prefer Millwall as he won't have to move away from Ipswich.
His family is settled and his children go to school locally.
Its not just about money.

if the Millwall switch is 99% there, and Bart is happy living where he is , i dont think the Blackburn deal will come to anything, although imo think i'd prefer that.

The Sun, eh? Must be true. Millwall deal looks far more likely.

With 2 striker's already injured why do we need another part time footballer. The key has always been to of load Bart. Once Holy was signed this was obvious to me. I hope the Blackburn deal goes through
