No Cash Turnstiles at Home Games
Wednesday, 31st Jul 2019 15:52

Town have announced that there will be no cash turnstiles for home supporters at Portman Road from the start of the new season with fans paying on the day required to buy tickets from the Ticket Office on Constantine Road.

"The Matchday Ticket Office will be open from 9am on Saturday matchdays and from 6.15pm ahead of midweek evening games to deal with ticket sales, enquiries, upgrades and lost or forgotten season tickets for home supporters.""

Planet Blue will continue to sell tickets midweek and until 6.15pm for evening fixtures but not on Saturday matchdays.

“For a number of reasons we have switched from cash turnstiles to using the Matchday Ticket Office for purchases on the day,” Town’s head of ticketing, Donna Powell, told the club site.""

“Ideally we’d ask supporters to buy tickets online or in Planet Blue ahead of matchday but we urge those that want to leave it to matchday to buy, to arrive in plenty of time.”

Further to that change, the Ticket Enquiry Centre on Portman Road will be an away supporter ticket office only from this season where away fans are able to purchase tickets or alternatively pay cash on the turnstiles. "

Disabled fans who sit in a designated disabled area in the Co-op Stand or the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand will now enter via a new entrance next to the Matchday Ticket Office on Constantine Road. However, disabled supporters who sit in the Sir Bobby Robson disabled areas will use the same entrance as last season.

How is it a cost cutting exercise. Will still have the same number of turnstile operators, they just won't be handling cash. Have encountered this at other grounds. Makes very little difference.

Utter and complete nonsense!
The club should be doing absolutely everything to get the casual fans back on the terraces, just think how long the queue could be at the ticket office will be at 2.30 if we start doing well !!

Have people read the article ?

If you make a last minute decision to go to an ipswich game and don't have a ticket you walk to the ground, go to the ticket office, buy a ticket and watch the game. What's the big deal ? How does this deter a fan. It probably adds 5 minutes to your day out.

I am far more concerned that the lager in the ground will still be fosters. Please announce a change soon

So apparently an innovative way to woo back casual supporters is to make the task of buying tickets on match day more inconvenient...genius...

Jeez do some of you have nothing else to think about ? Maybe it's your darn negativity that drives people away.
Feeling upbeat and looking forward to my trips back to PR.

I'm trying to work out how many times in the past say ten years this would have affected me and it's slightly less than once.

"Makes very little difference to buy at the ticket office than it does at the turnstile."

How many turnstiles accepted cash and how many ticket offices accept cash ?

Owaing yeah just queue up at the shop then queue up again instead of just letting someone queue at the turnstiles. They've made these revolutionary things called card machines they could easily use at turnstiles Christ! Just try make things easier for the spontaneous fan and get more money in the coffers

Handling cash is becoming “a cost” to a business..internet purchases streamline and enable preplanning...this is common practice...get in the real world go and moan about something more credible

Classic First World problem!
If so called "fans" are so fickle to say they wont go to a match because its slightly more inconvenient for them to walk to a ticket office a bit further away, or be more organised and buy in advance or online, they shouldn't be supporting the Town.

Fat_Boy_Tim, yes most people do have a bank card, but they have created a match day ticket office from which you will only be able to purchase a ticket at the ground so apart from going online and making a ticket purchase that will be your only option.
Still we are British so love queuing apparently. But for some it'll be too much hassle, so a loss of revenue to the club.

Hiltzkooler not everyone has internet access because they may not understand how to use it or afford it or even possess the means to access it.
Is it fair to those people?
