Debutant Norwood Partnered By Jackson as Blues Start League One Season at Burton
Saturday, 3rd Aug 2019 14:21

James Norwood is partnered by Kayden Jackson up front as the Blues start their first third tier season in 62 years at Burton Albion.

Norwood is one of four debutants with Tomas Holy in goal, James Wilson at the centre of the defence alongside Luke Woolfenden, making his second senior start for the Blues, while Luke Garbutt is at left midfield.

The Blues look set to use the diamond formation they utilised at Cambridge last week with Cole Skuse deeper than Flynn Downes, who faced no action following his red card at the Abbey Stadium, in central midfield.

Emyr Huws and Alan Judge are both among the subs, as are youngsters Armando Dobra and Bailey Clements.

Skuse skippers with regular captain Luke Chambers suspended following his red card on the final day of last season.

Andre Dozzell didn’t travel due to a knee injury but Jordan Roberts is back among the subs having been sidelined after suffering a knock at Colchester.

Burton, who finished ninth in League One last season, include ex-Town loanee Stephen Bywater on the bench.

Town: Holy, Donacien, Woolfenden, Wilson, Kenlock, Skuse (c), Downes, Rowe, Garbutt, Jackson, Norwood. Subs: Norris, Judge, Roberts, El Mizouni, Dobra, Huws, Clements.

Burton: O'Hara, Brayford, O'Toole, Buxton (c), Daniel, Edwards, Quinn, Wallace, Fraser, Boyce, Akins. Subs: Bywater, Nartey, Anderson, Hutchinson, Sbarra, Broadhead, Sarkic. Referee: Ross Joyce (Cleveland).

Dozzell took a kick to the knee at Cambridge but played on after treatment, so hopefully it's just bruised.

Nice to see 442 and huws and judge on the bench for a plan B if needed

Also look at that squad and then add toto, chambers, Nolan, Edwards, bishop and sears to it and tell me that isn't a strong squad, think another striker would be helpful and maybe a right back

Nice to see 442, need to show we mean business from the off to get out of this league not just sit back a allow teams to bully us like we usually do

I got 10/11 I just didn't dare to dream of two up top. Really pleased about Rowe and Garbutt. It almost looks like 4-2-4 so the partnerships down both flanks are crucial. COYB

Wilson and Woolfie at CB?...not much experience there, don't mind woolfie starting but I'd prefer an experienced player alongside him.

All the best lads!

Totally agree, lets go and win the game

Jackson did absolutely nothing last season to suggest to me that he warrants a starting place. Pace means nothing if you dont have the drive, determination and ability to score. So Kayden, show us why you are worth another chance, stop jumping out of tackles, get the ball out of your feet and shoot! Come on you blues!!

Let's stay positive ,and hope nothing further disturbs the scene ( definitely could do with ME being a public and positive presence .) .
Anodyne anonymity when we need the opposite from him: come on Mr E please step and show true colours and courage !

Big game today. Need to stand our authority early. We haven't won many for eighteen months, so important to start winning again.
