Lambert: Evans Should Tell the Fans What’s Going On
Sunday, 4th Aug 2019 12:00

Boss Paul Lambert has urged Marcus Evans to “tell the fans what’s going on” in relation to the club’s incoming transfer situation, something he says he expects the Town owner to do.

Lambert, Evans and general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill spoke briefly in the stand after yesterday’s win at Burton, with all parties looking pleased following the result and with no sign of any acrimony. Evans and Lambert also met on Friday when the owner was at Playford Road.

“Me and Marcus get on really well, I said to you yesterday, we get on really well,” Lambert said when asked about their post-match chat.

“He’ll say his bit, I say my bit and somewhere we’ll hopefully meet in the middle.

“He’s as frustrated as everybody else that we can’t get players or money’s too high or we can’t get anybody in. He’s frustrated, he’s the owner of the club, it’s his club but, as I said yesterday, the support at the football club is phenomenal, that’s an incredible plus, it’s a brilliant club, it really is, a really brilliant club, the supporters make the club.”

Did they discuss the transfer situation when they spoke on Friday? “It is what it is, you asked me that yesterday. He’s frustrated, I’m frustrated, I don’t like it, maybe he doesn’t like it, it is what it is, we can’t go and buy anybody, simple as, we just can’t do it.

“He’s one owner who has put a helluva lot of money into it and if he’s not got the money to do it, fine, totally fine, but tell the fans what’s going on, which I’m pretty sure he will do.

“Tell the fans because that support there deserves to be kept in the loop about what’s going on, it’s too big a support, it’s too good a support and I think if that happens and everybody’s transparent it’s not a problem.

“But you get frustrated because if we lose James Wilson we have to put a midfielder [Cole Skuse] back to centre-half.

“I’ve got to mix and match when we don’t have players and for the size of the club I don’t think it’s not good. It’s not healthy for a club of this size not having a squad that can sustain maybe 60 games.”

Lambert says there has been no progress on bringing anyone in, while there is no interest in any of his players.

“None, as I stand right now there’s absolutely nothing going out, there’s nothing coming in as it stands right now,” he added.

Is this a management master stroke by Paul Lambert? Takes all the attention away from his young squad on the eve of the season, and continues to take all the pressure of them as we go on. Whilst continuing to build a stronger relationship between the fans and the team. Genius, the best thing to happen to our club for years.

Strange someone mentioned Mr Sheeran, he did an interview a few months ago and said he was going to try something different and it wasn't music related so you never know

It's high time that ME communicated with us fans more. It's the least we deserve.

I can only imagine that at some point, probably after the transfer window has shut, we will hear from Evans and will get the "£9m in revenue lost so all sales go towards covering that plus we have to reduce our wage bill in line with the League 1 & 2 financial fair play rules which differ to the Championship plus we continue to invest in the Academy...." all valid and fair points (on the face of it). But for me, as a long time football fan, I think there needs to be some calculated risks if he wants the club to move back up to the Championship and then up again to the Premier League. We've seen it at other clubs - Burnley being a fine example. I think they spent about £9m on Andre Gray, a proven goalscorer at that level and whilst that probably represented a reasonable risk for them, it worked, they went up. Had they not, I'm betting they could have sold him on for close to £9m again. We all know under Mick when we were top of the league at lunchtime on New Years Day then finished 6th and lost in the play offs, that had we spent money on such a player then we would likely have gone up but if we hadn't, judging on transfer markets the last few years we could have recouped our money.
We are in DIRE need of at least one more defender. If it's possible within the wage structure of financial fair play, I would urge Evans to take the hit now, bring someone in - someone young enough to be sold on in a year if we don't go up. Otherwise, we could find ourselves missing out on promotion and losing Dozzell, Bishop, Downes etc etc next year just to "stay afloat"

Right leys get something straight first-----this is the SUPPORTERS club first and always will be.with or without Evans.

It seems clear that Lamby is hacked off at not getting what he was promised, and this would not be the first time this has happenned.

New money in from the Webster deal-----where will that go?

We need a statement of intent from Evans----perhaps in this weeks programme?

Blues 1. Think you'll find Evan's is worth more than Sheeran, Paul Mcartney, Pink Floyd and The Who combined.
He is one of the richest individuals in this country.

This current situation of non-investment in the playing staff is the fault of only one person... and it's not Lambert!

The failure of boosting the squad lies squarely with Evans and Evans alone.

While he's the owner, he'll bleed the club dry to claw back the money he's lost having made such poor business decisions during his woeful tenure. He's a disaster not waiting to happen.

It is time he cleared his desk. Get out of our club!

ITFCSince73 - once again your facts are wrong . Evans net worth somewhere in the region of 900 million. McCartney alone is well over a billion.

Dozzells bobblehat irrespective of that you're missing the point Evans is worth 900 million and good on him he deserves it to build successful businesses like that so why's he so sh!t at this one!? And fact is 900 million and we can't afford a lick of paint on the ground but you guys still stick up for him which is ridiculous

If you don't like him fine , his reign has without doubt been a huge failure. However if your going to criticise get your facts right. A lot of people on here guess half of what they say and also quote totally incorrect facts. Because I sometimes point this out I'm labelled as an Evans lover, which I'm not .
