20,000 Expected as Blues Face Black Cats in Home Opener
Tuesday, 6th Aug 2019 09:12

Town are expecting a crowd of around 20,000 for Saturday’s first home game of the season against League One favourites Sunderland.

“It will be a cracking atmosphere on Saturday and the support we had at Burton and the noise the fans made was fantastic. They were worth the entrance money alone,” boss Paul Lambert told the club site.

While the Blues were defeating the Brewers 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium, the Black Cats were drawing 1-1 with Oxford United in their opening fixture at the Stadium of Light."" The Wearsiders are expected to bring a big following to Portman Road.

As reported last week, Town will no longer have cash turnstiles for home fans, but tickets can be purchased in advance via ITFC Direct, while further details of ticketing this season, including on matchdays, can be found here.

Meanwhile, first-year academy scholar Cameron Stewart won his first Northern Ireland U17s cap as his side were beaten 4-0 by Sweden at their opening game at the Nordic Cup in Denmark yesterday.

The Northern Irish youngsters next face Denmark's U17s on Wednesday and then Finland on Friday. Defender Stewart joined the Blues from Linfield this summer.

Chris Sutton and Garth Crooks, two more pointless leaches for the BBC licence payers to support! How about sacking half the pundits and showing more of the actual match highlights rather than hearing them running on endlessly! There's so much excess fat (and it's certainly not limited to sports coverage) you could cut at the BBC it's unreal!
If Sutton ever called the Samaritans I wouldn't be surprised if they put him on hold! Actually that's a bit harsh, don't wish him any actual pain, but I just wish somebody would take him off the airwaves as he talks a load of drivel just to wind people up and I'd rather watch 5 more minutes of actual match highlights than hearing the likes of him running on a load of old nonsense. He's even had some previous mindless death threats as he looks to ruffle feather that bit too much for his own good (See here: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/former-celtic-star-chris-sutton
I think he says a lot of controversial stuff to try and make a name for himself but he just doesn't carry it off as well as other pundits such as Keane. Keane was awful manager for us (although to be fair he did well at Sunderland getting them promotion) but I do find him relatively entertaining as football pundits go (and I'm not that keen on the parabolic growth of football pundits as you can tell) as he (Keane) doesn't mince his words just like he didn't mince around as a player. Keane had that sort of persona as a player. I can't really say that for Sutton as I don't really remember too much about him as a player although my friend who supports Chelsea still moans about him to this day!

Yes there's a lot of frustration, yes weve been completely sold down the river RE the lack of reinvestment for players, yes Evans is an utter P&*£k , there are a myriad of things to get genuinely angry about with regards our club.....

But at 15:00 on saturday afternoon football is back at home and I dont know why but I cat wait

COYB!!!

Revealed: The six most annoying football pundits on TV
https://news.paddypower.com/football/2018/08/09/revealed-six-football-pundits-tv
Chris Sutton nearly topping the charts, not for goals or anything to brag about, but for being the most annoying pundit! So it's not just an East Anglian thing, he's just annoying full stop!

Chris Sutton shouldn't let his mind wander into football punditry so much as it's too small to be allowed out on its own.

still think they missed a trick in if they had reduced prices even more u would be possibly looking at that figure for every home game as this proves that the supporters are there. £20 for adult and £5 for under 19 should have been the price for what happened last season and previous loss of thousands of fans under mick

I hope the ticket office will be prepared as there will be no cash turnstiles. If they are not and people have to queue for too long it will deter some from future games.

Gcon has a point... not about McCarthy but about Evans!

They both deserved to be drummed out of PR with their heads hung in shame. McCarthy for his demeanour towards the fans who paid his wages and his (lack of) style of play and Evans for failing to back the team when we've obviously needed it.

The M word has departed, thankfully, but Evans, sadly, is still wringing the neck of his wallet to prevent any funds escaping in exchange for some badly needed quality players to bolster our chances.

At least we can all rest assured that he has spoken to that puffy-faced football encyclopedia, geezer and all-round wideboy, Barry Fry, about our intentions, or lack of, in the transfer market. Barry Fry always strikes me as the kind of bloke who should be sitting on a stool at the corner of a bar, with a bag of dry roasted peanuts, sipping half a pint of milk stout and telling everyone he knows all the answers on the pub quiz machine. This is who Evans has regular chats with? Christ on a bike!

Why doesn't Evans put his faith in the management team he's employed to rescue our honour instead of spilling the beans to rivals? What thought process has he gone through where that, he thinks, is his best option?

Just where do Evans' loyalties lie... I do wonder???

I'm really sorry that I'm unable to make the first home game as I'm attending a very good friends wedding.
So come on you Blue's.
My body won't be there but my heart and soul will be, willing the win and Norwood's first goals at PR.

Really doesnt matter what Chris Sutton says. MrJase_79 is absolutely spot on with his comment. 95% of media nowadays is just inflammatory sensationalism to feed the masses.

Lets concentrate on Ipswich, no one else, fill the ground as much as possible and cheer the lads on as loudly as possible. If we play well enough, we will win....Come on you blues!

Harrison heads two goals on his debut for Portsmouth, you couldn't write it could you!!!

brendenward35 added 21:43 - Aug 6
Town sold the wrong player on the cheap as per usual and to a team likely to be top 2 or 3 how bloody stupid. Would have been a perfect partner for Norwood.

alfromcol added 21:47 - Aug 6
Let's see how many goals Harrison has at Christmas before we sold him cheap.

Brenden and Wooly, Ward scored 3 on his debut for us and went on to score a further 5 in 93 games! Bit early to call don't you think?!
