Blues Target Elliott Back in Training
Tuesday, 13th Aug 2019 10:28

Recent Town target Tom Elliott is back in training with Millwall following the hamstring injury which scuppered his loan move to the Blues.

Elliott was all set to join Town for the season but his recovery from the hamstring injury he had suffered early in pre-season wasn’t as far down the line as had been expected, while he is also understood to have had a shoulder problem, and Town put the move on hold.

Subsequently, manager Paul Lambert said the proposed switch was “not going to happen”, however, if the 28-year-old proves his fitness prior to the League One transfer window closing on September 2nd - and Town haven’t recruited one of the other strikers on their list of potential signings in the meantime - then it’s far from impossible that the Blues could revisit their interest.

“Tom is back in full training and looking really sharp,” Lions manager Neil Harris told the South London Press.

“He has got to play some minutes but he won’t be involved at West Brom [in the Carabao Cup this evening] — it is too soon.

“We’re very clear on Tom — the boys love him and it’s great to have him back. If there is something out there which is going to suit him and the club then we’ll consider it. If it doesn’t then he stays and is a great option for us.”

Former Leeds, Cambridge and AFC Wimbledon man Elliott is contracted to Millwall until the end of the season.

Elsewhere, ex-Blues trialist Jon Guthrie has joined Scottish Premiership side Livingston on a two-year deal.

The former Walsall central defender joined up with Town last month and featured in the friendlies against Notts County and Cambridge United.

However, another centre-half on trial at the same time, James Wilson, signed a short-term deal until January and 27-year-old Guthrie moved on without having been offered terms at Portman Road.

Any mileage in the Willy Boly rumours. Would be a great signing if true

Speaking of James Guthrie.
The Walsall fans were horrible towards him on Twitter when it was announced he was joining Livingston.
Clearly they were not fans.

Clearly we're after backup for Norwood, if we go back for Elliott I reckon it'll mean all other avenues have been exhausted though. Lambert has enough unfit players to manage as it is.

Like Elliot and I think we need a target man - gives us options - especially if Jackson and Norwood cannot play together, one gets injured and Freddie Sears does not come back on time or Freddie Sears comes back as the non scoring forward lacking confidence.
We do not need anyone who is unfit though.

If he's injury prone then we should avoid.

Same for the Bony “rumours”..another injury prone player.

Do we have any overseas scouts anymore?

If fit I reckon Elliot would be a good partner for Norwood — he was involved in all the Millwall goals against us at PR last season, i think. Our defence couldn't handle his strength. We desperately need another body up front to get some goals - none from our forwards have scored in the league so far this season (typically Harrison has now scored twice down at Portsmouth). Jackson doesn't look like scoring to me - not thinking quickly enough in the box and defenders are comfortably taking the ball off him. Once Sunderland realised how quick he was they stood off him a little and he became increasingly ineffective. And as he can't hold the ball up we are playing the ball up to our best finisher (Norwood) who is trying to set up Jackson. We need someone (like Elliot) to be setting up Norwood.

Why did we get rid of Harrison to Portsmouth?.

Very good question Ray.
A strange decision at the very least.
Has scored goals in L1 previously and now more experienced.
Expect him to get 20 plus this season.

Harrison was poor imo....20 this season 🤔

Where have the crazy Bony rumours come from, as we have such a small squad I dont see any logic in selling Harrison for a pittance less than we bought him for what was the actual sense in it??

Hamstring ,shoulder , it will be a desperation signing if it happens imo.

Why would we bring in a player recovering from a known injury who isn't match fit? We have enough injury and fitness concerns. Also, would go against the no more loans approach of the manager - suggesting other targets were not signed by the owner.

I think Millwall manager Neil Harris is doing his best to sell Elliot knowing he is injury prone by saying he is looking sharp when he hasn't trained he knows if he goes he can somebody else in. Talking of injury prone players Harrison wasn't exactly fit last season and if you check his goal scoring record is poor his two goals against Birmingham was largely their U23 side for what it's worth i thought at the end of last season Colin Quaner was starting to look good i would definitely would have him above Harrison and Jackson far better all round game and scored a few goals.

Re ‘Jackson had a far better all round game'. That is absolutely what he doesn't have. Runs very fast but can't hold the ball up and his control is so loose when his speed takes him into the clear that defenders easily get the ball back off him. Norwood spent most of the Sunderland game trying to set Jackson up but he didn't manage a single shot on target. His highlight was a dive in the penalty area when he could have taken a shot.

Bluefox Don't think you read my blog correctly i said Colin Quaner had a better all round game than Jackson and Harrison this was also the opinion of Mick Mills on Radio Suffolk.
