Updated: McGreal Confirms Fee Agreed for Vincent-Young
Thursday, 15th Aug 2019 14:05

Colchester United manager John McGreal has confirmed that the U’s have accepted an offer from the Blues for full-back Kane Vincent-Young with the 23-year-old now holding talks with Town regarding personal terms.

What's understood to be a £500,000 move is not expected to be confirmed today with those discussions ongoing and with the player not yet having undergone a medical.

“I got a phone call off [chairman] Robbie [Cowling] last night to say that the clubs have agreed a fee and have given permission for Kane and his representatives to go and have a chat with Ipswich," former Blues centre-half McGreal told the Colchester Gazette.

“Kane’s been great since I’ve been here — he’s been a real mainstay of how I want to do things and he can play either side as full-back.

“He’ll be a real tough one to replace if he goes, there’s no question about that because of how he performs, the athleticism he has and also what type of player and character he is. He has been excellent for us.”

Vincent-Young spent time on trial with Town during pre-season ahead of 2018/19 but wasn't offered a deal and ended up signing a new two-year contract at Colchester.

Last week the one-time Tottenham academy youngster, who also had a spell with Banbury early in his career, was linked with moves to Championship sides Luton and Charlton but their transfer deadline passed with Vincent-Young still at the JobServe Community Stadium. Leagues One and Two are still open for transfer business until September 2nd.

Town reportedly may not be the only contenders for the Camden-born defender’s signature with Sky having claimed that Sunderland could also join the chase, however, unless the situation changes significantly Vincent-Young appears certain to become a Blues player, probably in time to join up with the squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to Peterborough.

Sorry to moan and realise how sad we have come, but just not sure why we have THREE headers of same transfer news

Maybe this means that PL sees this as a way of having more cb cover with Donacien moving there if necessary. Two birds killed with one stone.

Breaking news I would imagine runningout and the TWTD teams efforts to get us the news quickly.

beornioblue - With Wooflie, Chambers, Toto, Wilson and Donacien as CBs, think we are ok in that area for now!

Ever since Micky Stockwell was our regular full back have we been crying out for someone.

K V-Y might just be the man to put the attacking (and solid defending) name down our right side of Portman Road.

Two more purchase please Mr Evans!

Crikey!...Evans pushed the boat out there, agreed a CB next please. Amazing though only last season wasn't offered a deal here when out of contract and now fork out 1/2 a Mill!!...that's not good business in hindsight.

Cracking bit of business by ITFC,would have cost a fee and been on championship wages when on trail.

Well done ME, always thought there was some money about if needed, lot of pleading poverty and smokescreens methinks

If he was on trial with us earlier does this mean he would have been a freebie then if we had decided to offer him a deal, ( assuming he was a free agent at that point).?

TimmyH added 14:36 - Aug 15
Why would it have cost a fee?...he was out of contract when he had that trial period and doubt he would have moved for 500K then, it was his form last season that raised some eyebrows.

TimmyH added 14:37 - Aug 15
ArnieM - yes! a freebie.

Solving the CB back-up and right wing problem at the same time: Donacien moves over to what PL considers is his best postion. Just get it done, please, before Slumberland move in with bigger resources.

*Sorry, "right back problem" - although this guy acts like a winger sometimes.

Compensation fee payable for out of contract players under 24

TimmyH added 14:49 - Aug 15
and that adds up to 500K? - give over, we could have got him for free before 2018/19 season started when he was out of contract.

Steve ITFC; aren't Sunderland restricted in transfer market at the moment due to cash restraints?

trncbluearmy added 14:56 - Aug 15
No idea what the fee would have been, but there would have been one, he was not available on a free.

Maybe a small compensation fee but not 500k!!...glad you're not my accountant :)

Let's hope Lambert gets the other two players he wants.

Very surprised to see a player joining us for a fee.

If Evans spent a million on another two, I think you'd have to hold your hands up and say fair play to him.

Tell Evans after he has signed.

I think anyone who went Saturday will realise Donacien isn't a full back he doesn't give us the balance so this guy could. Young and hungry player with pace would compliment Kenlock on the other side for me. Only concern I have is that he wasn't deemed good enough last year but is this but every manager has their own ideas on players so for me IF this is a player lambert wants and not making do because we ran out of our other options then brilliant news! Two more signings especially a striker and we have a bit more strength in depth!
