Town Confirm Vincent-Young Signing
Monday, 19th Aug 2019 11:47

Town have confirmed the £500,000 signing of full-back Kane Vincent-Young from Colchester United on a four-year deal with the club having an option for a further season.

Vincent-Young, who travelled with the Blues squad to Peterborough on Saturday, spent time on trial with Town during pre-season ahead of 2018/19 but wasn't offered a deal and ended up signing a new two-year contract with the U’s.

The 23-year-old, who was previously with Tottenham’s academy and had a spell with Banbury early in his career, was linked with moves to Championship sides Luton and Charlton prior to their transfer deadline passing earlier this month.

Manager Paul Lambert said on Saturday that Vincent-Young wouldn't have been involved at Peterborough even if the deal had been confirmed in time.

“He came [to Peterborough], he wouldn’t have been fit anyway, he’s got a little knock on his toe, so I need to see how he is over the next couple of days,” he said.

“He’ll be a really good signing for the club. As I said before, we need the squad strength stronger than it was.”

He says Vincent-Young, who has been handed the Town number 24 shirt, could be involved on Tuesday against AFC WImbledon if he is fit: “I don’t know, we’ll try him tomorrow [Sunday], see how that toe is.”

On Friday, Lambert confirmed he sees his new signing as a right-back, rather than a left-back where he has often featured for the U's: “He’s a right-back. I know he can do left-back, but it’s not the ideal position for him, right-back for me is his strongest area.”

He added: “I saw him playing, obviously he played against ourselves, [in pre-season] and he fits the mould of the club.

“Young, athletic, strong and he’s played a lot of games. He’s only 23 years old and he’s had a good upbringing at Tottenham, so if it does happen and everything goes OK then we’ve got a really good player.”

Great signing, pacey full back who's also very good going forward. A target man now and maybe another winger and I think we're good!

Left back, centre back and forward to follow in an ideal world. As VY can play on the left I'd settle for forward and CB. We need these to finish top 2 imho

Welcome aboard pal, we're all rooting for you!

Couple more round pegs for round holes, and we'll have the first balanced squad in about... ten years?

Just what we need but let's remember this lad was inconsistent and took a little time to come to the fore at Col U. We need to show the same patience with Kenlock, not jump all over him after 1 shaky game against a dynamic Peterborough side. Janoi is a different case and is old and experienced enough to not get the same get-out-of-jail-free card for Saturday gone, but suspect he is a better CB (esp in a 3) than FB anyway.

In short let's give Miles as much love as is coming KVY's way today and we could have a great pair of FBs for the foreseeable future.

Welcome, Kane. This is your big chance to kick on. Potentially a very good signing with some attacking intent, (but don't forget the defending!)

Good that he's primarily a right back. Out of Emmanuel, Kenlock and Donacien, I'd like to see Kenlock push on (although granted he was awful on Saturday). That's my sentimental not logical mind talking! One of Donacien or Emmanuel can be offloaded to offset the outlay. A good, permanent CB and a young loaner striker from a higher division now please.

A mate of mine who supports Col U told me that he is too good for them and probably too good for League 1 too. He though he would leapfrog League 1 and go straight to a Championship club.

Sounds promising

Great signing - just the kind of player we're after. Could spell the end of Donacien and Emmanuel's seaons though!
