Town Confirm Vincent-Young Signing
Monday, 19th Aug 2019 11:47

Town have confirmed the £500,000 signing of full-back Kane Vincent-Young from Colchester United on a four-year deal with the club having an option for a further season.

Vincent-Young, who travelled with the Blues squad to Peterborough on Saturday, spent time on trial with Town during pre-season ahead of 2018/19 but wasn't offered a deal and ended up signing a new two-year contract with the U’s.

The 23-year-old, who was previously with Tottenham’s academy and had a spell with Banbury early in his career, was linked with moves to Championship sides Luton and Charlton prior to their transfer deadline passing earlier this month.

Manager Paul Lambert said on Saturday that Vincent-Young wouldn't have been involved at Peterborough even if the deal had been confirmed in time.

“He came [to Peterborough], he wouldn’t have been fit anyway, he’s got a little knock on his toe, so I need to see how he is over the next couple of days,” he said.

“He’ll be a really good signing for the club. As I said before, we need the squad strength stronger than it was.”

He says Vincent-Young, who has been handed the Town number 24 shirt, could be involved on Tuesday against AFC WImbledon if he is fit: “I don’t know, we’ll try him tomorrow [Sunday], see how that toe is.”

On Friday, Lambert confirmed he sees his new signing as a right-back, rather than a left-back where he has often featured for the U's: “He’s a right-back. I know he can do left-back, but it’s not the ideal position for him, right-back for me is his strongest area.”

He added: “I saw him playing, obviously he played against ourselves, [in pre-season] and he fits the mould of the club.

“Young, athletic, strong and he’s played a lot of games. He’s only 23 years old and he’s had a good upbringing at Tottenham, so if it does happen and everything goes OK then we’ve got a really good player.”

Think you'll find just opinions.
I think a great signing. You do to.
Others might think different.

Sounds Good we desperately need some quality at full back
although ..
Donacien was £750K
at 500K does this mean KVY will 2/3 as good ?

My mum playing with a stick of rhubarb is as 2/3 as good as Donacien...etc

So happy about this!

I predict he will be worth £3m in 12 months time. Mark my words.

Excellent signing, highly rated and a good prospect.C'mon now PL and ME let's have a striker we need to bang in a few goals. We need strength up front and Sears is out til November so get some similar guy in, a forward and we will be fine.Up the Blues!

Happy with this signing as an area of the pitch we have been poor for sometime. If we can now get a good left back too and a big target man up front then we really should have enough quality with players coming back to challenge at the top end of this league.

Palestine,if in 12 months he's worth 3 million that means Evans will sell him for 2 million.then give Lambert 100thousand to go buy a replacement.

After watching Saturday's game it's obvious we now need a tall centre half and tall target man as we looked very suspect with crosses into our box and very little threat up front this would give us another option

We do need a striker or holding player we are almost impotent up front. We were relegated last season not purely because we were bad because at times we played some good football. In the main it was our inability to score goals. As we were unable to score more than goal most games we failed to comeback on many occasions. We're hardly setting league one alight again down to our inability to score goals. We got Norwood from Exeter and he was their big scorer last season but it hasn't affected their ability to score goals having managed 5 at the weekend. After we scored against Sunderland even though there was some good football being played and some nice skills on display we never looked like threatening their keeper for the rest of the game. We need to be able to score goals whether it is a player to complement and feed Norwood or another goal scorer then let's get it done before the window closes and people start to lose faith in PL. On the evidence of what ive seen of Emmanuel and Kenlock during the last week this was crucial. A target man must also be on the wanted list. I don't care if he's crap on the deck as long as he gets his head on some of the crosses that we aimlessly throw into the box.
