Emmanuel Joins Bolton
Monday, 2nd Sep 2019 18:04

Right-back Josh Emmanuel has joined Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer on a deal to the end of the season, the Trotters have announced.

The 22-year-old was among those expected to leave Town ahead of today's 5pm deadline, although with a loan appearing more likely than a permanent exit, with Kane Vincent-Young and Janoi Donacien both ahead of him in the pecking order.

Emmanuel, whose Blues contract was due to run to next summer, made 24 starts and five sub appearances for Town without scoring.

Coincidentally, the Londoner is the last player to find the net in the league for Wanderers, having scored an own goal when the Blues won 2-1 at the University of Bolton Stadium in April.

Emmanuel, whose last Town game was the Carabao Cup tie at Luton, joined the academy as a schoolboy having previously been with West Ham's youth set-up.

While with the Blues Emmanuel spent time on loan at Crawley, Rotherham and Shrewsbury.

The full-back's departure, which went through very close to the 5pm deadline with the clubs concerned that it might not have made it in time, was the only business at Portman Road as the transfer window closed for clubs in Leagues One and Two.

Bolton made nine signings as they bolstered their squad following their takeover, including ex-Blues frontman Daryl Murphy on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest.

Their other seven signings are Thibaud Verlinden on loan from Stoke, Liam Bridcutt on loan from Forest, Will Buckley, who re-signed having left at the end of last season, Jake Wright on loan from Sheffield United, Ali Crawford from Doncaster, Chris O'Grady, who had been released by Oldham, and Joe Bunney, whose contract at Northampton was terminated.

Good luck to him. Hope he plays regularly and develops as a player. Should be OK in League 1/2.

Well that's a shame!! it doesn't say a loan deal but I'm hoping it is for his sake as I think he'll be ok as a RB he just needs a run of games which is never going to happen at ipswich now we have KVY and if its permanent with Bolton's troubles I wouldn't want to go there knowing there is no money but also hope we have given him on loan to help them out and we pay his wages

Very sad. I hope he does very well for them. Would have much preferred Donacien gone!!!

Think that's a FT Cantona or a v nominal fee. Given Bolton's plight I don't begrudge it at all

Don't like this, I know we have go trust in PL but I'd rather have Emmanuel as 2nd choice rather than Donacien

The article states that his "Blues' contract to the end of the season was cancelled by mutual consent." Therefore, it ain't a loan. We won't be seeing Josh back at PR - until we play Bolton, that is.

I always rated him, but sadly he didn't push on and for some reason struggled badly with us. It's time for him to move on, for his own career, and certainly goes with best wishes. Good move for Bolton too.

Poor lad never really got his chance at town. Big Mick gave him a few games but preferred Spence, say no more!!
Good luck Josh hope your career can kick start from now.

Needs to prove himself confident and always fully focused on the job in hand : he's the physique and apparent fitness but sometimes lacks alacrity and speed about the pitch.
So the best of luck, come to terms with the job and come back strong personally !
All the best ,

Absolutely the right decision. Good luck to him and i hope he can really go on to improve his game. Good for all parties. He was nowhere near our first team having had several opportunities. Needs to play and this is an ideal move for him.

Good luck to him, if you're going to make a name for yourself as a Bolton hero there's no better time! Anyone see Curtis Tilts howler on Saturday? Just imagine if that had been our skipper, TWTD would have gone into meltdown!!

Can't understand people saying he wasn't given a chance how many chances do give a player absolutely the right decision hope he does well at Bolton and proves me wrong.

Let's hope we've remembered to insert a sell-on clause. Players who don't make the grade with us seem to have a knack of going on to better things. Good luck, Josh (except when you play us).

Always has been a bit of a bull in a china shop. Relies too much on physicality over skill and positional nous. Capable of some barnstorming runs down the right, but I flinched every time he made a tackle in the penalty box - always a risk of giving away penalties from barging players over.
Good luck to him, I hope he gets games and I wish him well.

Murph is a great signing for them. Can't believe someone hasn't snapped him up for a tilt at L1 title. Handful at this level

Fatboy, doubt it. Contract here cancelled and signed there on a free.
