Nine Changes as Blues Face Spurs U21s in Leasing.com Trophy
Tuesday, 3rd Sep 2019 19:02

Town boss Paul Lambert has named the expected much-changed side for this evening’s Leasing.com Trophy game against Tottenham’s U21s at Portman Road (KO 7.45pm).

Luke Woolfenden and Myles Kenlock are the only players who started against Shrewsbury at the weekend to keep their places and are set to start either side of James Wilson in a back three.

Will Norris is in goal with Gwion Edwards and Janoi Donacien the wing-backs, while Jon Nolan, who skippers, is in a midfield three with Emyr Huws and Idris El Mizouni. Armando Dobra will play off Jordan Roberts up front.

Among the subs are keeper Harry Wright, Corrie Ndaba and second-year scholar Tyreece Simpson, a striker, all of whom would make their debuts should they start, and Bailey Clements, whose only senior game was the Carabao Cup match at Luton. Also on the bench are first-teamers Danny Rowe, Flynn Downes and Kane Vincent-Young.

The only name in the Spurs line-up familiar to Blues fans is midfielder Shilow Tracey, who had a trial with Town when an Ebbsfleet player prior to moving to the North Londoners.

If the game is drawn at 90 minutes, it goes straight to penalties. Both teams would receive a point for the draw with the winners of the shoot-out getting an additional point.

Town: Norris, Woolfenden, Wilson, Kenlock, Donacien, Huws, Nolan (c), El Mizouni, Dobra, Roberts. Subs: Wright, Rowe, Downes, Vincent-Young, Ndaba, Clements, Simpson.

Tottenham U21s: Whiteman, Eyoma (c), Oakley-Booth, Tracey, White, Hinds, Lyons-Foster, Markanday, Shashoua, Richards, Okedina. Subs: De Bie, Dinzeyi, Patterson, Clarke, Thorpe, Asante. Referee: Craig Hicks (Surrey).

Good call from Lambert, although momentum is key regardless of what team we are fielding. I knows it a Mickey Mouse cup but I for one would enjoy a trip to Wembley!

Good line up. Good game time for the returning and younger players. No Keane in the bench is a worry though. We look light of fit strikers!

I understand why PL wants to risk as few first teamers as necessary but only naming 10 starters?!!

I've not got any concrete proof BUT listening to PL press conference before the Shrewsbury game when asked about Will Keane he didn't give his usual "he's doing well, really well'. He said he wouldn't feature in the under 23s at Brum and then moved onto something else. Now seeing he isn't even on the bench tonight I think he's had a set back! How serious remains to be seen. It was always going to be a gamble signing him with his record. I hope I'm wrong.
