Lambert Wins Manager of the Month
Friday, 13th Sep 2019 06:05

Town boss Paul Lambert says it’s lovely to be named the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for August but insists the award is a “collective thing” for everybody connected with the club.

Lambert is the first Town manager to win a Sky Bet monthly gong since Mick McCarthy picked up the Championship award in November 2015.

“It’s lovely,” the Blues boss said. “I think the staff I’ve inherited and I brought to the club, everybody else, the supporters, it’s a collective thing because without them you can’t win anything. A big thanks to everybody connected with the club and I’m happy for everybody.”

Lambert says he has no truck with the Manager of the Month curse: “I’ve never been superstitious, I don’t buy into all of that stuff. I think if you’re like you're probably a bit weak in your mind. I go and try and win, it doesn’t matter. We have to go and win and that’s the most important thing.”

The Blues boss last won a Manager of the Month award with Wolves in the Championship in March 2017.

He previously won the League One award in January 2009 (with Colchester), December 2009 and January 2010 (both with Norwich).

Striker Kayden Jackson was nominated for the Player of the Month award but lost out to Peterborough’s Marcus Maddison.

But Lambert was pleased that the Blues striker, who scored four times and formed a deadly partnership with James Norwood, who netted five, had received the recognition.

“Brilliant, the two of them are playing really, really well,” the Blues manager added. “They’re a handful, they’re scoring goals.

“The team collectively is playing really well. Those lads need the chances that are created for them and the team is playing really well.

“Lads coming back from injuries is a big bonus, the squad’s getting stronger, which I said we needed.”

Well done Paul. I just feel we need a new terrace song to celebrate our boss so here goes:

He is our Llambo our own Paul Lambert
He use to be scum but now he's BLUE
And when he leads us onto promotion
He will always be Ipswich to us

Not just manager of the month, manager of the decade, at least for us anyway. Not much competition I know but still!

I'm not a McCarthy hater by any means, but Lambert just gets it, managing the whole club not just the team. I would also be reasonably sure he won't trash talk the club down like MM has, when he leaves.

A word for Jackson, too. Really pleased he has started the season well. He had many doubters, myself included, particularly when Harrison was sold. Come on Kayden, keep banging them in and prove us all wrong

Sam's Dad,Not sure you can be quite so judgemental about MM and. ‘the whole club ‘ .My first hand understanding is very different ,and Roger Finbow ,don't forget , spoke in glowing terms about the sense of camaraderie MM brought around the place !
I think at last ,after a dreadful decision over PH , and the moving on of IM( in my opinion a square peg in a round hole), ME has been forced to see the light , listen more carefully to what he's been told ,and determined to right a good number of wrongs .
No doubt PL and his attentions have played their part in this .

Hardly a surprise considering the transformation he has brought about this season.

For me, what is so impressive is what he has achieved off the pitch. Breaking downward spirals is hard, and he has done it by sticking to his principles and beliefs.

Lambert had a dream
To build a football Team
We had no money so we had to sign them for free
Chambers at the back
Norwood in attack

Totally deserved, and I agree with the comments about Lambert's off-the-field work too. A few weeks ago I was worried Lambert would leave and we would be in a total mess, but he had his say and now the signings have come in, the results are brilliant, community work is stepping up, and even the stadium is getting a lick of paint. Finally we are heading in the right direction after years of decline.
