Wycombe Game Likely to Be Postponed Due to International Calls
Wednesday, 25th Sep 2019 09:51
Boss Paul Lambert has said it looks like Town’s home game with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday 12th October will be postponed due to international calls.
Speaking about James Norwood’s groin injury at yesterday's launch of Willis Towers Watson's sponsorship of the Junior Blues, the Town manager said it was something which would have to be managed for the next couple of weeks but with a break expected after that.
“He’s alright, obviously we’ve got to watch him for the next couple of weeks,” he said. “We’re going to have an international break again, it looks that way, so we’ll see how he is up until then. But so far he’s not too bad.”
Quizzed further on whether he anticipates the Chairboys’ visit being put back, he added: “It all depends on if the lads get called up. We need to weigh that up and see where we are with that. It depends how many get called up.”
Town are able to postpone games played on international weeks if they have three or more qualifying players called up, as was the case with the Rochdale match earlier this month.
So far, loan winger Anthony Georgiou has been called up by Cyprus, while Alan Judge is expected to be in the Republic of Ireland squad, Andre Dozzell is likely to be with the England U20s, perhaps alongside Flynn Downes, Idris El Mizouni with the Tunisia full or U23s party, Armando Dobra with Albania’s U19s and keeper Adam Przybek with the Wales U21s.
Also likely to be moved due to international calls is the game at Oxford United on Saturday 16th November.

Copy reader got a day off again Phil?
You have two El Mizouni's in your report at the moment.

Absolute bloody madness to do this. Town NEVER, repeat, NEVER play well after an international break so why invite it? We will also have a backlog of fixtures in an already heavy fixture list. Absolute madness!
itsonlyme added 10:13 - Sep 25
Disagree with this totally. PL moans about the number of midweek games, now we are adding to it. We can cope without these players. Play the bloody game.
afcfee added 10:16 - Sep 25
This is so stupid only Downes mentioned you would really miss.
TimmyH added 10:23 - Sep 25
No need to postpone this fixture considering how much PL has been rotating players and we have enough strength in depth to cover the missing players - ridiculous!

Sensible decision, just off the back of an international break and we have had a fantastic week of football.
They have a really tough run coming up, Peterborough/MK Dons/Sunderland/Blackpool/Doncaster. Would prefer to play them at the end of that run when a little bit of stuffing has hopefully been taken out of them.
Make them travel to us on a Tuesday night.

Even if all of them get called up, as long as we don't have any injuries we can still name a strong team and bench like this:

Last game after an international break we played Doncaster and looked well off the pace, absolute stupidity in my book.

This is not helpful for fans looking to make travel arrangements for the games, get time off work, book advance rail tickets etc. Given how we rotate the squad anyway it would seem to make sense to play the games now.

Maybe the club can then reimburse me for my advance train tickets that I've already bought.

Agreeing with the sentiments that this makes no sense whatsoever
PL is currently making multiple changes to 1st team every week....just make the changes that then wont include our call ups
GAVTWTD ....do the FA compensate clubs for loss of revenue ...surely Wycombe on a Saturday at home will generate more fans than on a Tuesday ..esp as winter re schedule is likely
Feel for Rochdale....say 800 fans instead of possible 2000 town fans if the game had happened on the Saturday.
Lower league clubs need every penny ...and supporters cant be affording to take unnecessary time off work to travel to games that then happen midweek ....perhaps midweek away tickets need to be cheaper to help compensate and drive more fans to attend

We need to stop picking & choosing..we have a big enough squad to cover Downes & Judge..the others have only been bit part players so far.
If we’re still flying then just keep playing instead of disrupting the flow.
I guess it’s a bit tricky - lose the following week & there’ll be arguments on both sides.
Gforce added 11:21 - Sep 25
If the Wycombe game is postponed we will have no Saturday home games for almost two months.Next one will be Blackpool on 23 November.
As in this period we should of played Bury and it's FA cup round one.
Which I suppose there's a chance of a home game against the likes of Braintree or Chelmsford !!

Out of that list, Downes and Judge are the only players with regular first team appearances. We would miss Downes but the jury is still out of Judge this season as far as I am concerned. So I agree I am on the side of playing the match and keeping momentum going.
On the other hand, it does give Norwood a week off, to get this injury sorted.

I am on the side of playing the game, like a few have pointed out(yes I appreciate all players are needed) that only Downes would be really missed.
I wonder how many who are in favour what their thoughts would be if we then lose the re-arranged game.
@cornishblu - great post, couldn't agree more.
To cap it off we have a strong enough squad to play and win game which is great, COYB.
I also wouldn't be able to make game because I work most Saturdays but will go to game if re-arranged so on a selfish point it works for me.
runningout added 12:52 - Sep 25
We don’t need to postpone this game if we are honest with ourselves
TR11BLU added 13:09 - Sep 25
Calm down all, we will beat them whenever we play them and anyway, love a game under the lights!
Saxonblue74 added 13:29 - Sep 25
Madness. We're all going along with the squad rotation thing that seems to be working so why not rotate for the Wycombe match?
dford7 added 13:51 - Sep 25
Its £20 I won't get back (cost to travel from London and back on train). You have to book early to avoid paying another £10 to £20. I suppose I could go and sit in the park for 3 hours....
DebsyAngel added 16:44 - Sep 25
Seems stupid to postpone it - we have enough players to cover for just one game. Thought this would happen less in this league, seems I was wrong.
MonterreyBlue added 17:29 - Sep 25
Wonderful, from a personal point of view i just changed my flights back from Mexico (at a cost) so i could make the match. From a Town view its complete insanity as we always struggle after a break (i think Micks Mills said 19 without a win but i could be wrong) plus not all of them would be in the matchday squad anyway and we have momentum. Madness ITFC.
ronnyd added 17:46 - Sep 25
I got marked down when i disagreed with the Rochdale game being postponed and though Wycombe will perhaps, be a stiffer test, i still think the game should go ahead.
ITFCblueTaunton added 18:25 - Sep 25
So that will be annual leave wasted and accommodation costs we cannot recuperate. We make a 500 mile round trip to come and watch and there are no other home games until end of November!!!
