Wycombe Postponement Confirmed
Tuesday, 1st Oct 2019 15:09

Town have confirmed that the home game against Wycombe Wanderers, scheduled for Saturday 12th October, has been postponed due to international calls.

The club say a new date for the Chairboys’ first ever visit to Portman Road will be confirmed in due course.

Town now don't have a scheduled Saturday home game until Saturday 23rd November when Blackpool are in Suffolk.

Unless the Blues draw a home tie in the first round of the FA Cup and that game is played on Saturday 9th November, Town will go eight weeks between Saturday fixtures at Portman Road following last weekend's 4-1 defeat of Tranmere.

Last month the trip to Rochdale was postponed due to international calls, while the game at Oxford United on Saturday 16th November is also likely to be moved for the same reason.

Alan Judge (Republic of Ireland), Anthony Georgiou (Cyprus), Armando Dobra (Albania U19s) and Adam Przybek (Wales U21s) have already been confirmed in international squads while it's expected Andre Dozzell (England U20s) and Idris El Mizouni (either Tunisia full or U23s squad) will also be called up, while Flynn Downes (England U20s) could also be named.

Stupid decision . There goes our continuity and run of form.

Fair enough, let's not make a big hoo-ha out of this and just move on.
Nice to have internationals in the team i suppose!

Not happy about this. What had Judge got injured or suspended, we would have had to cover him then, and got plenty who could do the job, Huws for example. Dobra, Dozzell and Giorgio are not even playing for the first team on a regular basis. Feel sorry for the fans (both ours who live outside Ipswich and the Wycombe fans) who have already paid for hotels and train tickets.

Gives a chance of a weeks rest.
Since last international week off, we've taken 10 points from 12.
Hopefully pick up the same kind of points after the next rest up.
Maybe Wycombe would have lost their spark come re arranged game.
All good for me.

Although I feel momentum may be lost and I agree that Judge is the only first team regular who would be missing I have to agree with ITFC73 that by the time we play Wycombe they may well have gone off the boil a bit. On current form this might well have been a dangerous game but I cannot really see Wycombe sustaining their current form for much longer.
It is possible of course that WW fans are making the same comments about playing us right now!!!

Disappointed by this given that only two of the call ups have been regularly in the starting 11 and the strength in depth that should be able to cover. Hope we don't lose momentum and that the fixture pile up doesn't come back to haunt us.

This is the only decision to make, deciding to play this game gives absolutely the wrong signals to Wycombe and gives their manager his teamtalk ready made - They think they can beat us with some of their team missing, lets go show them.....

I don't have much interest in international matches personally

Here's something I don't say very often , but i agree with Since 73 on this . Can't really see the issue . If we play the formation we did on Sat , one of the most likely replacements in the side for Judge would be Dozzell. They are both unavailable.

Good lord, can international games ruin a weekend

I struggle to make mid week games due to work. Really pisses me off not to have a home game for 8 weeks. Also don't want to be in a position where we have lots of games in hand and the inevitable fixture congestion that will come

With our squad strength and depth the longer the season goes on the better for us, especially as we have players returning from injury who need time to get back to fitness.
Fixture congestion should not be an issue, squad rotation etc.

Imagine, top of the league with 3 games in hand! With an end of season run in of 8 home games in the last 12.

Another poor decision : the rules should be changed to simply not allow teams to postpone games : at ANY level.

We are going to be playing 2 games a week for much of the season ...

All very well saying that Wycombe may have gone off the boil by the time we play them, but who's to say we won't have gone off the boil by then!!! Play the games when they are meant to be played and bag the points!!!!!

Alfromcol, we are better away from home so far this season!!

Just disappointed that we have so few home Saturday games. Midweek are not the same for me.
3pm on a Saturday is always a favourite for me but then again I am very much a traditionalist where sport is involved.

Don't forget folks, 2 games less this year, due to Bury's exit.

Really pi55ed about the Oxford game moving, had everything arranged with my son coming back from Uni for the weekend and taking him to the game, now it will be another Tuesday night.

When we do play this game on a Tuesday, what's the betting judge gets rested due to the '' 3 games in 8 days''. Better to play it without a couple of first teamers to avoid fixture congestion later in the season.

This was always going to happen and not just to us. There were only 7 league one games on 7th September. With a little bit of forethought the EFL might have scheduled EFL cup games during the international breaks. That would allow us to watch some football, fringe players to get some game time and a little bit of pressure to be taken off the fixture schedule.

I've said it before, this game should go ahead. Its scandalous! PL does not want to go on about all the midweek games coming up in the near future when this and Rochdale should have been played.
I am really incensed about this.

a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, this could end in tears, We have been waiting for players to get back we are getting results, it could all be different later .
