Wycombe Postponement Confirmed
Tuesday, 1st Oct 2019 15:09

Town have confirmed that the home game against Wycombe Wanderers, scheduled for Saturday 12th October, has been postponed due to international calls.

The club say a new date for the Chairboys’ first ever visit to Portman Road will be confirmed in due course.

Town now don't have a scheduled Saturday home game until Saturday 23rd November when Blackpool are in Suffolk.

Unless the Blues draw a home tie in the first round of the FA Cup and that game is played on Saturday 9th November, Town will go eight weeks between Saturday fixtures at Portman Road following last weekend's 4-1 defeat of Tranmere.

Last month the trip to Rochdale was postponed due to international calls, while the game at Oxford United on Saturday 16th November is also likely to be moved for the same reason.

Alan Judge (Republic of Ireland), Anthony Georgiou (Cyprus), Armando Dobra (Albania U19s) and Adam Przybek (Wales U21s) have already been confirmed in international squads while it's expected Andre Dozzell (England U20s) and Idris El Mizouni (either Tunisia full or U23s squad) will also be called up, while Flynn Downes (England U20s) could also be named.

Cannot see the justification for this in football terms. Many people plan their commitments around home games so season ticket holders would be justified in being miffed if they cannot attend on a new date. I rate Lambert but on this occasion I think he has got it wrong and it could well backfire.

Although agree with most comments, I would have missed the original date so will see the new revised date COYB

I think that we would comfortably have had sufficient resources to see off Wycombe and keep up the momentum. It also would have been great for the crowd to keep up the support as no game at Portman Road for several weeks could dim enthusiasm to some extent. While wholeheartedly supporting PL I do feel that this may be a very rare misstep by him, assuming he made the decision and will lead to another 3 games in a week scenario assuming it will be moved to a Tuesday night..... coyb

Hi all, I bought a ticket for this game. I assume I can just use the same ticket when it is rescheduled?

The old order changeth. With the increase in and the changing nature of international football, along with the power of the media over the scheduling of football matches, this sort of thing will happen more and more.

Difficult to criticise any decisions the club management are making at the moment, already missed one international weekend, still top of the league. And when we achieve that double promotion and are in the Premier League in two years time, how many 3pm Saturday games will we have all season then?

A mistake in my opinion. We won't now have a home Saturday game until 23rd November ! Going to football matches is a habit and a few could fall by the wayside. Surely would have been better to maintain the momentum. Are we any more likely to pick up points by delaying it ! I don't think so. We have a strong enough squad to have gone ahead with this (and the Rochdale game). All PL is doing is creating a fixture pile up what with the us also playing in the FA Cup First (and hopefully Second) Round this term.

Who is responsible for this stupid decision? Utter madness. I could understand if we had a favoured starting 11 and 3 of those were missing. Ridiculous, losing momentum and possibly interest, people are coming back, keep them coming I say!

Wrong decision
...for thise that are highlighting that the International break will give us that ..and therefore we will come back rested , what happens during the times we now have to be playing Sat/Tue/Sat/Tues etc to catch up we are going to be knackered ...esp of we go on a little FA cup run .
Play it when scheduled , use our squad rotation to its best advantage and avoid fixture congestion later
....Whilst we still attend Rochdale on a Tuesday night from sunny cornwall ......its a dreadful return trip ....much rather have done it on a Saturday ....and surely from a body clock perspective so would the team
see you at Fleetwood COYB

This really pxxxxs me off! Had a weekend away planned for Oxford, now in ruins as that game will also be postponed, and as I work away all week, I can only do Saturday games, pointless having a season ticket. Preperation for maybe getting to the prem league when we will olay Sundays and Mondays or whenever sky tell us to! Rant over

Unfortunately not all of us are season ticket holders. I get to as many games as I can, but with these fixture cancellations there will come a point when we have 3/4 homes games in a row and i just can't afford that many games close together at £27 a pop. I'm sure I won't be in a minority. Attendances will suffer. But hey another Saturday with the feet up.
