Town Open Lambert Contract Talks Claim
Friday, 11th Oct 2019 14:45

Town are reported to have begun talks with manager Paul Lambert regarding a new contract.

Lambert, 50, took charge at Portman Road a year ago this month on a deal which runs to the summer of 2021 and Football Insider claims that discussions have started regarding extending the Scot’s time at Portman Road.

Having been unable to prevent the Blues’ relegation from the Championship last season, Lambert has led Town to the top of League One during the opening months of this campaign, four points ahead of second-place Wycombe Wanderers with a game in hand going into the weekend fixtures.

I wonder if there is any connection between this and the departure of Ross from Sunderland?

With 2 years remaining on his deal seems a bit pointless, but obviously this isn't bad news as he's doing a cracking job

Great move by the club and I for one hope agreement can be reached with the man who has done so much to give the fans their club back and hope for the future! COYB

Deserves a better contract after the work he has done in just a year! United the club, the players and the fans in every way!

Wouldn't like to imagine losing him at this point in time, it feels like the start of something good and starting to believe we needed to take one step back to take two steps forward.

He's been and is a great manager of the whole club . I've never heard a manager talk about revitaling the club by reingaging the fans as a 1st priority . His enthusiasm for the club even in face of relegation has totally re-energised Marcus Evans . The end result is we have a much better squad this year than last ironically . Long may this good feeling last for a few years .

Would be very wise to do so. As a player and manager has always come across as a good character. A talented and smart player who made the absolute maximum out of what he had. Those are more likely to be top managers than many of the supremely gifted who didnt have to think about the game.

Great powers of persuasion also in acquiring through the owner one of the deepest squads in the division.

Be very clever getting him signed up long term.

Makes you wonder if Evans is getting wise to a potential approach ( Sunderland?) for Lambert . By offering him a new deal it makes him an expensive acquisition for any Club thinking about trying to tempt him away.

Paul Lambert has rejuvenated a club that was going to the dogs after several seasons of stagnation, no matter how long his current deal is get him signed up for longer now Marcus he has wholeheartedly bought into this club and has everyone onside for me he is extremely infectious I applaud his every move, and he will take us (on and off the field) further than anyone could have hoped for a few seasons ago.

I hope this goes forward and is done.
However why would he even consider moving from us to the Stadium of Shight they are not doing so well and are in no way a better football club that Ipswich. Well that's what I think anyway!!

I think forecast from the very start he could be our Alex Ferguson and I'd love to think it might prove so !
If the rumour has any truth in it let's hope we can agree soon on a better and longer contract : but I too can't think PL would want to up sticks right now so look forward to positive outcomes .

If you look at all the positive things that have happened to our Club they have all emanated from the Manager.

Paul Lambert has worked wonders in such a short space of time and has certainly rekindled my love for Ipswich Town, which I'll be honest was in serious decline after the Keane/Jewell/McCarthy years.

Lets hope that period in time will soon become a bad memory.

Just give him a £1m for promotion and £5m if he can take us up 2 years running

Makes sense. He has played a massive part in giving our club back to us fans. Tractorboybig- you are right in what you say but hey he looks like he could win promotion which is a start.

It seems that Lambert is in the driving seat and can make requests / demands / seek reassurances regarding investment. Let us hope the Club reciprocate.

Would make sense to give him a better contract given how he has pulled us out of the freewill that Hurst left us with. Not many clubs manage to bounce straight back from Div1, and he has got us in to a great position. Particularly now that Sunderland apparently have new American owners coming in with millions to splash. After initial doubts I have come to love Lambert, but it would be unwise to bank on his loyalty — just ask Norwich supporters. And think back to his comments at the end of last season that ' it is not about me, it is about the club'. If I was Evans I would be trying to tie him up for as long as possible.

I would like to see him being extended for another 3 years beyond his existing contract. He could prove to be the best overall manager we have had since Sir Bobby.

Paul Lambert is doing a great job uniting the fans to the club, now even watching the U23 team, a learning kerb?

According to The Daily Telegraph today, the leading candidates for the Sunderland job are:
Roy Keane (yes, really)
Kevin Phillips
Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe)
Paul Cook (Wigan)
Phil Parkinson (ex Bolton)

Happily no mention of Paul Lambert.

Don't think it's anything to do with Sunderland's situation ... other than that they have sacked their manager ... and it's now sacking season across Europe as owners decide to gamble to get someone different to what they have to get a better idea of what changes need making ahead of both the frantic number of matches over Christmas and New Year ... and not least the transfer window opening in January. Even if PL isn't being mentioned much/at all in connection with the Sunderland job given the inevitable number of sackings coming over the next few weeks he is bound to be connected to at least one of those.

Hope he stays. What a breath of fresh air he has created with the club!
