Lambert: Club Has Moved On an Incredible Amount But Still a Lot to Do
Friday, 18th Oct 2019 09:12

Blues boss Paul Lambert believes the club has moved on a long way since their FA Cup defeat at Accrington in January but says it is still miles away from where it could ultimately end up.

After the third round defeat at the Wham Stadium an angry Lambert said: "This club needs to be rebuilt. Players are not good enough and without a doubt some will go. You have to hit that level.”

He added: "This club should never be in the state it’s in. It should never be in the mess it's in.”

Looking back on the time since that 1-0 loss, courtesy of Billy Kee’s 76th minute goal, Lambert said: “I think the club has moved on an incredible amount. As I said before, the community is huge and I think there is a really good feeling between the club and the town, the support and the football club.

“With the kids coming back and the Community Trust getting going, the club is now in a really good place. It's small steps, but it's in a really, really good place at the minute.”

But he says there remains a lot of work still to do: “We're miles away from where you want to get but what we have got is the support back which is the catalyst of the club starting to rebuild again.

“We had to get the support. We had to get the community back involved. You had to do all of that side of it because it wasn't working before. We needed to bring everybody back to the stadium.

“We've started the season well, but the biggest thing for me and the catalyst of it is the support coming back.

“Not just the support coming back, it’s the atmosphere in the stadium, they're right behind it and they're on it and they're creating a vibrancy, and it's spreading through all four stands, which I think is important.”

He added: “We’ve been here nearly a year now and the football club has come a long way off the pitch, I think the infrastructure is getting there.

“As I said before, if you don't have an infrastructure and your team falls, it falls a great height, but if the infrastructure is there it will only fall a bit and then it will kick on again. It's getting there.”

What would completing the rebuild look like? “If this place got going really? Dear oh dear, this could be huge if it really wanted and it really wanted to go to the Premier League which everybody wants to get, you wouldn't get a ticket for this place, that's for sure.”

Stay for the rebuild, Paul. You are the one who knows what it takes, a proper football man. #inlambertwetrust

That is such a true statement about towns crowd potential, if we were back in the Premier we would have crowds of 30,000 plus.......36,000 back in SBR days, a limited 30,000 with our last venture there, & I would guess he is looking at the population increase since then in our catchment area without another TOP team to compeat against for 40 miles or more, the potential is far greater now.............just got to get there.

We are starting to see the sort of changes so long awaited ; one can only question those who ME appointed ,with what brief and what discretion to act as so called M /D .None distinguished themselves ,and some were very plainly either lacking the nous ,courage or personal enthusiasm and commitment to the obvious tasks and needs .
PL has been a breath of fresh air ,active in all spheres and promoting thought and action to promote ITFC and correct much that has demonstrated the prior dereliction of duty and responsibility .
Let's give he and his team and everyone at OUR club rousing support !

I know you can't ignore what a manager does on the pitch because that's his main job, but Lambert deserves a lot of credit for trying to get the club moving in a better direction, even if he did fail to stop the slide to relegation.

He may seem like he's blowing his own trumpet but the guy deserves to. He understands the fans and the club. All the fans ever wanted was to see their team playing the Ipswich way and attacking. 12th in the Championship with crowds of 12 to 13 thousand and being booed week in week out for such negative football. Now in league 1 playing the right way and attracting massive away support and around 20 thousand at Portman Road. Why could MM and ME not understand what the fans wanted? We don't expect miracle but we want to see good football.

Just shows the damage Mick ma done to the club.
He made it the most poisonous club in the land.

Well not only MM but he did let the club drift. Several managers must take their share of the blame plus to some extent the owner although he seems to have learnt his lesson somewhat .But let us remember this is only the start of the rebuild its a bumpy road with a long way to go for me .

As most have said a long way to go.
The in ground catering must be a massive task to put right.
