Sections of Ground Closed for FA Cup Tie
Monday, 28th Oct 2019 19:33

Town have announced that only limited sections of Portman Road will be open for the FA Cup first round tie against Lincoln City on Saturday 9th November.

As has been the case for cup ties in recent seasons, the Sir Bobby Robson lower, Sir Alf Ramsey lower and East of England Co-op lower and middle tiers will be open. The Cobbold Stand will be open for Lincoln supporters only.

Tickets will go on sale to season ticket holders tomorrow and they have until 10am on Wednesday 30th October to buy their own reserved seat plus an additional ticket.

Season ticket holders who have seats in an area of the stadium which will be closed can choose an alternative available ticket or wait until reserved seats are released at 10am on Wednesday.

Silver members can buy tickets from Thursday 31st October with tickets - a maximum of four per person - going on general sale on Friday 1st November.

Ticket prices are £10 for adults, £5 for 65-plus and under-23s and £2 for under-19s.

big own goal here Town, I was planning to take 3 members of family for this game, and get tickets to go with my season ticket (BR Upper!!).. now find its closed... reaction from other members was *don,t bother, so 4 potential customers lost, and I sure there will be many many more.... Not very happy. bad thinking by club..

I'd be surprised if the crowd is more than 6000, so makes sense to close parts of the stadium.

I was intending to take 4 guests so not sure now!

Got a great idea NOT! Why not do an FA Cup ticket promotion and close half the ground. There could still be 12-15000 wanting to go but not enough seats available, and sod the 8000 non season ticket holders, they can wait til last and go without. I thought the club wants momentum.

At the end of the day, if demand increased, the club just simply open up more sections starting with one of the end upper tiers. Don't know why some of you are getting in a flap. It's not going to be full so you can still take your 4 guests! If 20,000 tickets get sold the club open up more parts!

FFS why are people moaning!
What would be the point selling seat on the upper ends of the ground when you can't fill the bottom. This also creates a better atmosphere which was proved in the past. If and when demand is required then start selling seats in these areas. It's also nice to watch a game from a different angle. So get over it

I know I will get shot down but I agree with others who are unhappy with this. People like me who sit in the Sir Alf Upper sit there for a reason, that being because that is where I like to watch my football from.
Why do the club block that opportunity for a cup game? Yes I know there is stewarding costs etc but those costs are not going to outweigh keeping supporters happy. I know of a few others who sit near me who shall not be buying tickets now based on this.

Had to finally sign up after years of admiring and looking through TWTD comments.

Are some of your seriously moaning about the club closing a couple stands for a game that's going to be a very low attendance no matter how optimistic or any of you want to sound, the facts are, there will not be 20,000 at the game.

Any opportunity to have a moan atm, 2 losses moan, moved seats for one ( Litterally one) game, MOAN

all the good publicity and things happening at the club, eg away surport, noise from north stand, Lambert PR, and the first opportunity the moaning comes out.

Come on guys and girls give the club a break.

Perhaps if we had taken cup matches more seriously in recent seasons a lot more fans would want to go, first round or not. But our record is appalling and doesn't look like it will improve much under the current management. I saw us get comprehensively outplayed at Luton by their weakened team and arent minded to go through that again. A decent cup run would be financially very rewarding and allow greater investment in the team. Look at Bristol City e.g.

I was going to bring 700 guests along to this game. But now they are closing some sections, i don't think i'll bother. Even tho there will be plenty of space in other areas of the stadium Big mistake from the club in my eyes.

In all due respect, it's Lincoln City and not Man City. Guess closing certain sections helps reduce the costs on stewarding, caterers etc. The club are probably aware that they will over a particularly big crowd.

This is absolutely fine.

No one wants to go to what has become a Mickey Mouse competition.

Clearly those who feel this is acceptable have not looked at the alternative seats available without waiting for the lottery of unclaimed Season tickets.

KERRYPETE, tell your family to get a grip. Don't bother, because they have to sit in a different seat to the one they don't normally sit in?

Don't need "supporters" like that anyway

@CraigEdwards

'why are people moaning'

Good question, well presented, but at the end of the day some will always moan....beyond me

I was going to take 800 people.

Then I remembered that no one likes me.

all of the Cobbold stand for Lincoln. So the club clearly expecting a big take up from Lincoln. They'll probably have more fans there than us.

FifeITFC added 14:32 - Oct 29
No atty, they're just keeping Lincoln in the usual designated away section, not allocating or expecting a big away support. They're just not opening the rest of the stand.

And likewise, the club have done cheap prices so it is on the supporters if it's a low crowd - not the club! If demand is better, the club just open up further areas. Simples.

Essexnblue added 17:26 - Oct 29
I think the club are underestimating our support?
We sell out away, get 20k for a night game and at £10 a ticket plus concessions, how many are saying no to that price?
Also Lincoln brought 4000 here when they last played here in the cup.
My thoughts are that they may have to open up the closed sections to house another large crowd.
In fact I will bet its the highest attendance of the round.
