Tommy Smith on Life's a Pitch
Friday, 1st Nov 2019 16:33

Former Blues defender Tommy Smith is the star guest on Saturday lunchtime’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk (12 noon to 2pm), joining host Mark Murphy, Tractorboy and TWTD’s Phil Ham.

New Zealand international Smith, 29, came through the Blues academy and made his Town senior debut on the opening day of 2008/09. He went on to make 251 starts and 17 sub appearances, scoring 23 before leaving to join his current club the Colorado Rapids in January 2018.

What are your memories of Smith's time with the Blues? Can Town win their seventh away game of the season at Rochdale on Tuesday? Send your thoughts on those questions or anything else to the Life’s a Pitch team via email, Mark’s Twitter or during the show by phone on 0800 141 2121 or text to 81333 starting your message with SFK.

The show can be heard on 95.5FM, 95.9FM, 103.9FM and 104.6FM, and also now on DAB, or online via a widget on this page by clicking here.

Hopefully Murphy kidnaps him and delivers him into the hands of Lambert with a contract and pen.

Does Tommy have local links? Seems a long way to come JUST to appear on a Radio show..... Hmmmmm

Heard a whisper a while back that he may be coming back when the US league is finished.

Cooper4england, almost wrote the very same myself. Ipswich in November surely isn't a top holiday destination for a New Zealander?

He did live here from the age of 16 and his wife is from the area. Not sure too much should be read into his return!

I remember a number of people on here a few seasons back saying that Smith wasn't good enough for the Championship when at the time before his back injury was probably our most consistent defender...how times have changed.

The injuries rather derailed him for a while leading to a loss of playing time and then him struggling to break back into the starting side. I had hoped that he was the obvious successor to Berra but MM thought otherwise. If he is now injury fee we should certainly sign him if he is available.

Not unheard of to see MLS contracted players coming over in January for the rest of the season...
