Ten Changes as Blues Look to End FA Cup Woe
Saturday, 9th Nov 2019 14:25

Town boss Paul Lambert has changed all 10 outfield players for today’s FA Cup first round tie against Lincoln City at Portman Road with keeper Will Norris the only survivor from Tuesday’s 1-0 League One win at Rochdale.

Ex-Imp James Wilson and Toto Nsiala start at the centre of a four-man backline with Janoi Donacien at right-back and Myles Kenlock on the left.

Andre Dozzell, Flynn Downes and stand-in skipper Emyr Huws are in a three-man midfield, while Will Keane is the central striker with Blues full debutant Anthony Georgiou on the left and Armando Dobra on the right.

In contrast, Lincoln make one change from the team which drew 1-1 at AFC Wimbledon last Saturday with Jake Hesketh taking over from Jorge Grant, who drops to the bench.

Ex-Blues loanee Callum Connolly starts, while former Norwich central defender Jason Shackell skippers.

The Blues are playing at the first round stage of the competition they won for the only time in 1978 for the first time since the 1956/57 campaign when they defeated Hastings United 4-0 at Portman Road.

Town last won an FA Cup tie back in January 2010 when they beat Blackpool 2-1 in the third round at Bloomfield Road during Roy Keane’s time in charge. Since then they have played 14 matches in the competition, four draws and 10 defeats.

Town: Norris, Donacien, Nsiala, Wilson, Kenlock, Huws (c), Downes, Dozzell, Dobra, Georgiou, Keane. Subs: Holy, Edwards, Norwood, Rowe, Judge, El Mizouni, Woolfenden.

Lincoln City: Vickers, Toffolo, O’Connor, Shackell (c), Payne, Andrade, Walker, Morrell, Connolly, Eardley, Hesketh. Subs: Smith, Chapman, Grant, Lewis, Melbourne, Anderson, Akinde. Referee: Kevin Johnson (Weston-super-Mare).

Not expecting a clean sheet for one reason. Doubt we or Lincoln want replay. Wish I wasn’t a grumpy fit but not sure how many changes help league form

Absolutely no need for all these changes with no game next week. Total disrespect for the FA Cup once again by Town. Disgraceful.

And that’s the reason I didn’t go today!

So, when they said, "First-team coach Matt Gill says there will be a few changes when the Blues take on Lincoln City in the first round of the FA Cup at Portman Road on Saturday but insists it will still be a strong side which takes on the Imps", 'few' meant 10!!!

Why not just say, 'We simply don't care about the cup, and since it'll be a demonstrably second-string team, we'll charge £10.00 for all tickets'?

Bit sad about this, to be honest...

Totally agree with above comment. Its a disgrace and the team put out there will reflect the scoreline

Quite agree guys. I'm rapidly losing I interest in the FA Cup because of Towns ridiculous disregard for it. Lincoln fielding a nearly full strength team apparently. Only one result there then.

You’re all forgetting, we are Ipswich Town.

We are such a massive huge club that the FA Cup is totally beneath us.

An absolute travesty We should have put out the strongest team to carry on the winning ethic Notice the BBC stats give us 9 fouls to their 1 and a completely out of touch team Can only see more goals for Lincoln here and once again no cup interest for Ipswich So disappointed

An insult to those who have bothered to come today. Lambert has no reason to field this side with Oxford called off. Dozzell a waste of space as usual.

Usual crap then. Multiple changes to the dude. So it’s not a “ team”, but an “11” having a knock about as they recover from long term injuries, of just simply getting minutes on grass. What a total waste of time.

Our first team proper needed a run out today IMO.

SBR used something like just 14/15 players in a season of over 60+ games, playing PL and European caliber games. What utter tosh this squad rotation in the third tier of English football is.

chages are a disgrace and are a finger up to the supporters
