Judge and Ireland Targeting Victory Over Danes and Automatic Qualification

Alan Judge will hope to win his 10th Republic of Ireland cap and help to see his side to automatic qualification for Euro 2020 when they face Denmark in their final qualifier in Dublin this evening (Sky Sports Main Event from 7pm).

If Mick McCarthy’s side beat the Danes then they will qualify ahead of the Scandinavians, whose squad includes former Blues full-back Jonas Knudsen. If not, Ireland will go into March’s play-offs.

Judge, 31, who has scored one international goal, is determined to reach the finals having missed out four years ago due to the serious injury he suffered at Town while playing for Brentford.

"Obviously, what happened to me last time, I missed out on the Euros,” he said last week.

"To be this close now, it would be great to get there. If I play, I don't mind. To be honest I just want to get there.”

Judge seems most likely to be a substitute this evening, while ex-Blue David McGoldrick appears a certain starter and one-time Town reserves midfielder Conor Hourihane is also tipped for a place in the XI.

Meanwhile, former Blues defender Tyrone Mings and one-time Town academy schoolboy Nick Pope - who was winning his second full cap and making his first full international start - were in the England side which beat a Kosovo team featuring ex-Town loanee Bersant Celina 4-0 yesterday.

Whats our record at the moment?Played 7 scored 6.McCarthy has continued his dire brand of football and even most Mick die hards cant wait to see the back of him.Mick Out .

Am I missing the point here?
The article states….

Firstly The Swiss should beat Gibraltar giving them 17 points.
If Ireland win they finish on 15 points, the same as Denmark.
Denmark have a far better goal difference, so would finish 2nd in the group.
With the top 2 qualifying it would leave Ireland in 3rd

The only way Ireland could finish 2nd is if they beat Denmark 8-0 giving them the better goal difference.

As I said, am I missing the point?

Barty added 13:10 - Nov 18 Maybe I am incorrect but a win would put them level on points with a much inferior goal difference unless Ireland win about 8-0 !! Can someone please enlighten me.
