Audio: Lambert's Gillingham Press Conference
Friday, 27th Dec 2019 20:43

Listen to boss Paul Lambert's post-Gillingham press conference in which he appeared to call his Blues future into question.

Lambert’s press conference after the disappointing 0-0 draw started relatively uneventfully with the manager expressing his pride in his players for not hiding during a frustrating afternoon before discussing his position at Town at length with reporters.

It sounds like there's a distinct problem in the dressing room and he's trying to cover it up.
I think if we lose the next two he'll be gone.

Wouldn't say he wants to stay until the end of the season. Very worrying.

Seems little doubt there's something amiss ; but exactly what is difficult to discern .PL is committed and driven by ambition ,and can maybe see a tricky road ahead ,doubting for a while his capacity and maybe his ability to see beyond and successfully negotiate the next few weeks.
Are there factions behind the scenes making life difficult ?Are these matters he cannot speak out about ? Are some of the players proving difficult to handle ,or to bring the best out of ( little doubt on the evidence we've seen that some have palpable shortcomings ,both in physicality and in footballing brains ) and does he not simply have the panache and drive to be as brutally honest as needs dictate ?
Judging by the number of cards ‘earned ‘ by ITFC players ,there's loads of commitment to the cause ,but is the quality really there ?
Whatever ,one hopes behind the front line concern is bringing thought and counsel ,for despite the lack of wins , and goals there is real evidence of progress .
It's happened before at ourClub ,and one has to ask just who does our Manager have to turn to, to share his concerns and worries ; where does the help and counsel come from ?
Mr E ,I think ,needs to publicly show his commitment and joint determination to hold the ship steady ,in temporarily troubled water ,and ,if needs get the crew in order,or add reinforcement to hold course ! We all want the best ,but hope for only the best ASAP in this unrestful situation !

If we all had a pound for every time we need Evans to stand up and speak up we could buy a decent attacking midfielder.

Very exquisite & spot on point Carberry! ...However do expect some among the so called pragmatic, and possibly even a stoic Evans luver / Evans defender or two, to finger you post for ehmmmm not exactly coinciding with the unequivocally more long-standing & proverbial: "Silence is golden" LOL :-) (-:

To be fair, he did spout all this crap at the start of the season as well.

I think there's a distinct possibility that he won't be here much longer, but technically what he says is true - we could replace him, and he'd have to go and that would be that. I don't know if he's trying to fuel speculation or what, but he could just be being realistic and it doesn't mean anything

I said at the start of the season that we all have to be pulling together. That means Manager,Owner,Staff,Players and FANS!!! In August if you had said to any town fan you will be second at Christmas with a game in hand he would have bitten your hand off. We were never going to go the whole season without losing a game so please get off the Manager and Players backs and look at the whole picture.

Lambert spouted this nonsense at the end of last season. When he said much the same thing. Then again when he wanted some additions to the squad in the summer. He has form for this. He is bl0ody depressing though. Either shut up or p! Ss off.

could be a ploy to get players in, but think it will be wasted on Evans, if HE had any real ambition we would not be where we are now.PL WONT BE HERE NEXT SEASON , whatever the outcome this season, he wont want to be tied down by Evans and his budget for another season.

Hullo, transfer window is about to open again, Lambo is threatening to leave. Nothing to see here, just trying to get a bit of leverage with Evans.

It makes a more sense when you listen to it. He sounds like a bloke who needs a bit of confidence to me. I've said this before but WHY do you guys print every word the manager utters in interviews? It's impossible to read it if you put in every erm and umm. And it makes anyone look stupid if you do that. Just summarise it and quote the key bits!

We were second third or fourth bottom in the spending leave every year we were in the Championship. We ended up with a side that weren't good enough for the league. And that's what we've got now. Don't take any notice of Evan's blather. The reason Gillingham didn't beat us is because they were really really awful. We GAVE them three goals but they weren't good enough to take them. There was only one football team. That's why the fans go. We are in a league of sh*t teams but we are in it for a reason. I'm not surprised he's frustrated with the press. Lambert is doing an incredibly tough job and this is a really tough time - get behind him and leave the poor man alone.

H loves the sound of his own voice, any criticism and he starts to tell you the fans are amazing , clubs amazing detracting from a poor performance, then moves on too his future, don't thing provoking this sort of unrest does any good for the club. Either shut up and sort it or leave and let someone else do it

This is a tricky situation! We are second in the table and any onlooker would think they're doing well but not having won for ages is deeply disappointing. Although you can't fault PL s charm in getting the fans onside, he seems to be feeling the pressure and as fans, you have to worry about his team selection and tactics. His record as a manager is not very good to say the least and I think it would be best all round if he were to go and get a manager in who can motivate the team as confidence appears to be low.

Hurst had a problem with our 2 inept overpaid senior pro's who have far too much influence behind the scenes when they offer nothing on the field of play other than mistake ridden performances maybe Lambo is feeling it a bit who knows!!??

I can't believe the lunatics on here. We are a poor club. We lose loads of money. The club had no actual investment for five years in the Championship relatively to other clubs. BOTTOM OF THE SPENDING LEAGUE. It takes a huge amount of experience to keep a side in a league in that situation. McCarthy did it, but Hurst couldn't. Shall we have a repeat of that? If Lambert leaves that's what you'll get. Wake up!!

Just say it Paul you haven't won in nine games, which yes is a recipe for the sack, but to act like a sulking bloody kid saying you might get your coat is pathetic, he really has been on the defensive a lot lately, you think he's calm then he snaps over something, reminding me of Mick Mac towards the end...

Im a big defender of Lambo, this interview was I'll-advised but let's move on.

The project is not short term.

Everyone calm down.

No team is winning every week. Tough league. Couple of wins and when it's our turn to hit form we'll be golden.

Meantime - fans, management - stop giving oppo a boost. We need to be a fortress and united army.
