Downes Taking No Notice of Speculation
Tuesday, 7th Jan 2020 11:59

Midfielder Flynn Downes says he doesn’t take much notice of reports that clubs from higher divisions are showing interest in him.

TWTD revealed a month ago that Championship Fulham have regularly watched the 20-year-old this season, while Premier League West Ham, the club Brentwood-born academy product supports, are also reported to have been keeping tabs.

“I’ve heard the stuff that’s been mentioned but I don’t really take any notice of it,” Downes told the club site.

“Speculation is all part of the game and while it’s nice to hear and gives the confidence a bit of a boost, I don’t take much interest in it.

“One day I’d love to play in the Premier League but every player will tell you that. It’s been my dream since I was a kid but I’m not getting ahead of myself.

“The only thing that I’m concerned about now is getting back to winning ways here and helping the boys get promoted."

Downes is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further season.

Not one player in the current squad is anywhere near the championship let alone the premier league! Potentially yes but on current form they are closer to the national league! Sort a settled side Shambert with Downes in it and leave it for a minimum of 6 games! COYB

One of the big reasons we must get promoted this season. He (and other quality young players) will be gone if not.

IMO Downes is a talented footballer with a huge amount of potential but still has it all to prove. He has good moments in games, but is hardly setting the division alight in what is a very, very poor league.
Talk about having Premier League class are miles away....let's add a bit of realism!

Yep, bigger teams will poach them eventually and cant really blame the players ambition. Although Its always nice when players(irrespective of age) stay on that bit longer through loyalty(Holland n Butcher are examples). Just hope we are successful with these youngsters during their stay.

On a side note, just reading Berra is out of the frame at Hearts (new manager). Will need to go out on loan...........

Not surprised he takes no notice.
It will only take a under valued bid, and he would be off.
He knows they'll be no fight to keep him. Same with the Woolf.
Potentially 2 of the best players to wear the shirt in many a year.
Woolfenden being a modern day centre half, who imo is in demand.

See your point Gravy...but can you imagine Chambo playing alongside an ageing Berra.
Stuff nightmares are made of.

They will stay to learn from two club giants.....Chambers and Skuse, they will learn alot from them over the next couple of years along with Lambert...ready for Premiership football where this club belongs!

Oh dear, even a neutral story can be turned into pessimism by Warktheline. Johnny Cash was better than right and loyal.

Sadly, we WILL sell Downes, if not this window, then in the summer.

But for love of God ITFC, if we are going to sell, sell for top dollar especially when we have several Cubs sniffing round our players.

But as is all too common, sadly I fear we will once again UNDERSELL our Crown Jewels!!

Long way from being a premier player if he leaves needs to go to a championship club but he struggled there last season where he found it hard physically don't know if he's improved enough to warrant a big fee .

Learn from Chambers and Skuse!!?? those two overpaid ineffective so called footballers have been one of the biggest reasons for our downhill slide in the past 5 seasons

Chambers...great servant to our club...past/present/future
Skuse...as above...Downes has actually cited skuse as a great influence and learning beacon so l find yr views odd and at odds with the truth 🐬🐬

Way off the mark with the Swn comment therein61. 😂

He still posts but he is not the dolphin.

Oh how I giggle at dolphins posts.

Sat at home with an imaginary fishing rod getting bite after bite.

He must be at his keyboard pi$$ing himself with laughter.
