Talks on Nsiala's Bolton Move Ongoing
Thursday, 9th Jan 2020 11:01

TWTD understands talks are continuing regarding central defender Toto Nsiala’s proposed move to Bolton Wanderers.

TWTD revealed yesterday that Bolton are targeting the 27-year-old with discussions ongoing regarding the deal which we understand could initially be a loan with a view to a longer-term switch in the summer, a move which would appear to suit all parties.

According to the Bolton News, Trotters boss Keith Hill is looking to add a centre-half or perhaps two prior to lunchtime on Friday, the cut-off point to be able to play in Saturday’s local derby at Rochdale. Bolton are also said to be interested in Hibernian centre-back Adam Jackson.

Nsiala has had a frustrating season up to now having been in and out of the Town side in recent weeks after recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered in pre-season.

The Kinshasa-born DR Congo international, who grew up in Liverpool, joined the Blues from Shrewsbury in the summer of 2018 in a double deal with Jon Nolan, following their former Shrews manager Paul Hurst to Portman Road.

In total Nsiala, who is contracted to Town until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further season, has made 28 starts and five sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

If Nsiala’s departure for the Trotters is confirmed, it is likely to lead to further speculation that the Blues could look to re-sign former central defender Tommy Smith, who is continuing to train with the U23s at Playford Road having left the Colorado Rapids during the MLS close season.

Meanwhile, Town are reported to be among several EFL sides to have watched AFC Fylde striker Danny Rowe in action recently.

According to social media rumour, Blues boss Paul Lambert was at the Sheffield United-AFC Fylde FA Cup tie on Sunday, which the Premier League side won 2-1, and according to the EADT the Blues have been among a host of clubs keeping tabs on the 29-year-old.

Earlier this week, Rowe, not to be confused with the Town winger of the same name, was transfer-listed by the Vanarama National League side at his own request with his contract up in the summer.

Rowe has been with the Coasters since 2014 and is their record goalscorer, although has netted just six times in the National League this season plus a hat-trick against Peterborough Sports in the FA Cup.

Town are not expected to make many signings during January with a striker with no EFL experience who would cost a fee, albeit a relatively small one, appearing an unlikely addition.

Real shame this. Great bloke. He was awesome for Shrewsbury and I hoped he would kick on with town, but not been good enough unfortunately.
Guessing he had a word with Josh Emmanuel to force a move.

Don't think it's worked out for him here. Strikers have worked out how to make his wholehearted tackling always look like a foul (even if sometimes it isn't).

There'll be fans worried about the fact that we paid a decent fee (by our standards) for him and may not get one back. But seeing as receiving fees doesn't seem to affect our transfer policy, if it frees up the wage bill to get a replacement in I'm fine with that. Good luck Toto.

I think he's just struggled to recapture his pre injury form. However, the level of abuse levied at him on social media by some, so called, “ Town fans “, reaches a new low from sections of this Club's fan base. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and they bring our Club into disrepute by their pathetic actions.

Good Luck Toto. I expect the Bolton fans will appreciate you far more .

I got fed up with people on social media trying to push him out and calling for Tommy Smith to come back. Memories are short, Tommy in his early days was shocking, giving away penalties and dragging players down, I think he even went out on loan but eventually he was given chances and came good, shame Toto wasn't given the same chance.

Couldn't agree more ArnieM. Sadly some are only happy when things go wrong so they can moan. The abuse dished out to some players is personal, pathetic and embarrassing to see. Sadly though this isn't something new from so called supporters of this club and has been all too common over the last 20-25 years but sadly is getting worse not better

Totally agree that personal and continual abuse is not acceptable but fans/bloggers are entitled to their opinion relating to on field performances.

The rotation policy has not helped any of the players to build confidence, cohesion or partnerships. However, it has given Toto ample opportunity to show if he was capable of commanding a starting place. Irrespective of his previous form for Shrewsbury, his positioning, passing this season have been woeful and he has given countless fouls (inclusives of yellow/red cards and penalties) away. To say he just needed to be given a chance is nonsense. How many goals/points do you concede before saying enough is enough. If he goes to Bolton and performs well then good for him.

We are carrying players as it is. Edwards is poor defensively and provides little/no supply to the forwards. Chambers is really begin to creak having briefly arrested his disastrous form. Kenlock has no positioning or awareness at all. There seems to be too much sentiment for players as oppose to the actual contribution they are making ON the football pitch.

There need to be a couple of additions, KVY has been sorely missed and Lambert has played pegs n holes, since his injury, with little success. But i still feel that we have the players to be in the shake up. Sears, Teddy, Dobra, Garbutt, Woolfy, KVY, Downes, Norwood, Jackson are all good enough at this level. Judge hasnt performed to his ability, Dozzell needs to strengthen and contribute a lot more on the talent he has. Jury is out on Keane, There were a few signs of revival in the game versus Wycombe. But, for me, that depends largely on Lambert playing a more settled side...............

Excellent post - Different Gravy - although I have my doubts on our strikers but totally agree that playing a settled team is paramount but PL seems hell bent against this. I seriously doubt his ability but we are stuck with him for several years now !!!

Literally the worst footballer I have ever seen.... hes clumsy, cant control the ball, miskicks constantly and the number of times he is beaten and then fouls his man to stop them getting away is in double figures...... I'd rather have my mum marshalling the defence and shes 65, 5 foot 1 and scared of footballs

On a slightly different subject. When a few of our squad went on loan to league 2 clubs at end of last season. Looking at the footballers at those clubs that kept them out of their first team surely worth enquiring about, if not already. Seems simple

Concur with most of that excellent post.

Hopefully Tommy Smith hasn't lost any pace and has gained from his experience abroad.

We all dream of a team of Tommy Smiths...

...but instead we're going to get a team of Danny Rowes.

:D

Concerning the Danny Rowe2 interest , have we sunk so low now , that our target is 29 year old non league player with a declining record ?
We have enough clapped out strikers as it is, any chance of signing a player with long term potential ?

Meanwhile Mirror online has published the salaries of Everton players. Apparently, Everton are paying Luke Garbutt £1.456 million p.a

Toto is a decent defender at this level, and given a run of games with a regular partner, am sure would show that.....as he did at back end of last season when I thought he was about our best performer. No chance of that though, so I guess we let him go and take another financial hit. Not so much a bad player but definitely bad management am afraid.

Unfortunately not good enough from what I've seen but the same applies to Edwards, Chambers and to a lesser extent Kenlock. Throw in a laboured and powderpuff central midfield (Downes aside) and ridiculous keeper changes and you've got the reason we're in trouble. At least Toto tries to tackle unlike half of them. We desperately need a strong centre back to play with Wolf and an up and down central midfielder to play with Flyn. What are the scouts doing 😡?

I'd scout for free. Would be more productive than what our recent record shows

Unfortunately we are not in a position to wait for players to "come good". We need players who can show they ARE good as promotion this season is very important!

Not been given a sustained chance this season. Finished last season as our best defender by a long chalk, but then this season dropped asap in favour of a real under performing and mistake ridden skipper.
Now whenever he plays he lacks confidence also knowing he is 4th choice no matter how well he play.
This is a real shame as we cannot defend for a toffee with some of the currents incumbents..but never given a real chance. We may see how good he is when Bolton come here later in the season and he dominates our hopeful long ball game
Unfortunately like many, he still seen (by the club and many on here) as one of Hursts signings so cannot be any good. Jackson, Nolan, Edwards, and Donacien all suffer from this !!!
