HMRC to Retract Winding-Up Petition
Friday, 17th Jan 2020 15:37

A winding-up petition against an Ipswich Town company due to be heard at the High Court on January 29th will be retracted by HMRC having been raised in error, according to the Blues.

The petition related to a VAT charge which Town paid in December last year.

A Town statement reads: "Our VAT group covers ITFC, Ipswich Town PLC and Ipswich Town Stadium Company.

"HMRC confirmed that the petition was withdrawn for ITFC and Ipswich Town PLC but they had not withdrawn the petition for the Stadium Company in error. They are retracting the petition from the court."

The Ipswich Town Stadium Company was set up at the time of the building of the two new stands in 2001 to deal with income from matchday tickets and other stadium use.

Town were previously in similar situations relating to debts to HMRC in May 2019 and in February 2016.

The fact that the petitions were issued in the first instance sums up the dilligence and good character.

Hegansheroes. Read the story correctly and you will see that they were served in error. So shouldnt have been served in the 1st place.

The statement says the error was withdrawing the petition from two companies, but not the third, in error. The initial issue was not the error.

Hegansheroes. Yes, that was a error, but read the 1st paragraph and it also states it was an error that the order was raised in the 1st place

Blues1, the winding up order was first issued in Nov 2019, which means it was already an aged and unpaid debt. It was paid in Dec 2019 to prevent the court hearing going ahead. My point is that an any business owner with any self respect, does not let this happen if the means to pay are available..He may be keeping us afloat, but only just, and completely on his terms.

Never helpful to get on HMRC's radar.

The bureaucrats there sound as dumb as the ones we have here. Perhaps withdrawing against all three meant that someone would be late for their prolonged tea break or that they lost concentration after processing two and found a third one too much to cope with in one day......
