El Mizouni Joins Cambridge on Loan
Thursday, 23rd Jan 2020 16:22

Midfielder Idris El Mizouni has joined League Two Cambridge United on loan for the rest of the season.

The Paris-born Tunisia international has made six starts and six sub appearances for the Blues, having made his senior debut towards the end of last season.

The 19-year-old is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further year.

Cambridge's head coach Colin Calderwood is delighted to have recruited El Mizouni, who faced his side in a 0-0 pre-season draw in July.

"When we found out about the possibility of a loan for him, we moved swiftly," he told the U's official site.

"Had he have been out there for another day or so, numerous other clubs would have jumped in.

"He’ll add to our attacking threat - he has an athleticism to go with his footballing ability."

Town are keen to get their young fringe players out on loan to gain first-team experience. Last week, striker Aaron Drinan joined Scottish Championship Ayr United, while fellow frontman Kai Brown moved to BetVictor Isthmian League side East Thurrock United.

What a move that is for the lad by the way.

Good enough for a regular spot with us in my opinion. Regular football will be good for him.

This is good, local enough not to be disruptive.

I think he could be worth a starting place here but since PL has had our midfield play in a positive collective way instead of sideways the young man would be sitting out so a loan is of obvious benefit good luck young man I can see you cementing yourself in a town shirt before long

Bit surprised but seems like a good move. Got to be better than sitting on the bench here waiting for a few minutes here or there. He should feature regularly at Cambridge

Bags of potential but nowhere near a regular in the first team yet. Good move for all.

Very good move for the lad not ready for first team yet just behind Dobra in the pecking order .Can't understand why Dozzell hasn't gone out on loan don't think he is physically up to senior football yet can't think of any other reason.

This is good news. This lad has the potential to be another Teddy Bishop although his game is slightly different. If he was given a run in our team now I don't think he would let us down but we have more experienced options in the way - so this move gives him the opportunity to develop some consistency and experience ready to take a regular place on the bench next season with a view to nailing a first team slot at some point in the not too distant future. He will be available to backfill when the likes of Judge and perhaps Edwards move on in a year or two.

What a great move, really happy for the lad. Would have done him no good another 6 months in the u23's or the odd appearance on the bench without getting game time. Hope he gets a good solid half season there playing 90 mins week in week out where it means something. Could come back and cement a place next season all being well

Echo Linkboy13 that Dobra is ahead of the lad at present, so this is a good move.

Dozzell needs to be taken out of the firing line (again) and given a run, which we cannot take more chances in doing in our 1st team given his recent performances and being in the midst of a tight promotion race, so perhaps in pre-season.....but then someone has to make a decision BEFORE next season starts for the lad's sake if nothing else.

He used to be ahead of Downes, but now the gap is a chasm and it is Flynn who is way ahead and that probably will do for Dozzell's England prospects when it comes to U20/21s too.
