Stand Pillars to Pay Tribute to Fans' Favourites
Thursday, 30th Jan 2020 12:18

Town are set to feature a Blues legend on each of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand’s 12 pillars as part of the ongoing makeover of the stadium.

The club will be making contact with thousands of randomly selected supporters in order to select the 12 players who will be featured on the pillars which run through the concourse.

Town say they are looking for “icons, heroes, legends of the club but across the years, rather than just one era. They don’t have to be the best 12 players - just 12 fans’ favourites.”

The club are aiming to have the selected dozen appearing on the pillars before the end of the season.

tbh we have had so many cracking players who have showed loyalty over the years it is difficult to narrow it down to 12,we all have our favourites from different eras as well,i personally loved super jim magilton from burley era robson era blimey where do you start :) and then todays players like chambo and the skuse, i think mick mills john wark and the beat are rather special so lets start with them first

Well this is a tough but great job
I'm not old enough to have watched the boys of 61 but I'm sure they are deserving
The first goal I witnessed was Paul Mariner V Liverpool 79 so he's in
Then theres Cooper Burley Mills Hunter Butcher Osman and The Beat
Murhen Thijsen Wark of course
Gates Brazil
Winning was a given then
Then there's a bit of a gap before the likes of Fabian Vilnis Mathie Magic(the last thing he did was send Narrich down!!!) and co,Bent and Ambrose
I will always have fond memories of what Joe Royal did for us(although not obviously a player)
Stuart Hridersson and anyone who ever scored against that lot up the road!
I'm afraid the current crop don't make the cut on merit (although some of the younger ones have a great chance but not yet and if they're good enough to make my list sadly i fear they'll be sold off as commodities to service the debt long before they've had a chance to play enough games to reach legendary status)
God that last bit is depressing but that's the reality
Anyway good luck picking 12 from the many great players managers and staff we've had over the years
After Tuesday we need a diversion

Mick Mills (most club appearances).
Terry Butcher (Legend!)
Allan Hunter (Most international appearances).
Ray Crawford (Most goals).
Ted Phillips (Most goals in a season).

And there's some of you suggesting Stewart, Reuser, and others.
Only 12 players from our whole history.
We need legends, not one season wonders.

Jokey ones aside, there are so many good and deserving shouts in there!

My personal choice is my favourite player of all time, still in touch with the club, only been mentioned a couple of times so far, that player is Russel osman.

Then you have a real unsung hero who played in every position, a good old fashioned utility player from the days when you only had one sub. This guy even played in goal! That player is Mickey Stockwell.

Then you have a player who was the first from the soviet block a real history changer, Sergi Baltachi.

Kieron Dyer another local hero, who was a star for us and when we sold him the money generated our most recent rise into the big time!

All these names makes you realise just how far we have slipped down the footballing ladder!

In a way an oxy moron of a story, both happy and sad.

Only 12 pillars and only in the Sir Alf? Surely 12 must be for starters. We must have far more space to fill around the stadium than that for this sort of thing?
Choosing only 12 means we're always going to have differences as fans and therefore disappointments, so finding more places to add further favourites is a must.
We must honour tens if not hundreds more, surely?
Vote with the most popular 12 on those first 12 pillars initially and the rest on the list get any remaining spaces around the place. I vote for more spaces.
