No Jackson Red Card Appeal
Monday, 24th Feb 2020 13:34

Town have confirmed that they will not be appealing against Kayden Jackson’s red card during Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Oxford. The striker will therefore miss the next three matches.

The 26-year-old was dismissed in injury time for an alleged stamp on U’s skipper Rob Dickie.

“I think it’s the first red card Kayden’s had. He’s not that sort of player,” boss Paul Lambert told the club site.

“The video footage we have doesn’t really show the incident clearly and when you appeal you run the risk of getting an extra game ban.”

Jackson’s suspension leaves the Blues short of numbers up front with James Norwood having undergone groin surgery on Friday.

The former Tranmere man is expected to be out for a few weeks, however, should be back for the end of the season.

“With James missing as well, it does leave us short up top but sometimes adversity can make you stronger and we’ve got to hope it does,” Lambert continued.

“It will be an opportunity for someone else and we have Freddie [Sears] and Bish [Teddy Bishop] back now and we know what they are capable of doing.”

Saxonblue74 - you can be certain that Roberts has been allowed to go for the rest of the season, that would be typical of us.
I said realistically the season is over - realistically it is, based on four wins in twenty two, where is there any indication of reversing that kind of pathetic form.?
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Roberts / Sears playing together - Roberts is no mug, another player who needs playing in his best position.
Gillingham likely to be above us soon themselves, the way we're shaped up.

Short of numbers up front? Like we'll notice the difference

Great , our two highest goalscorers out at a time when we really need them - not that they have been particular prolific! Recent history tells you that if we are relying on Sears and Keane to score readily, we will be disappointed. Like others have said, if there are youngsters within the squad that are fit and able to play up front (I would certainly give Dobra a go) then lets do that. Is Lankaster still injured? Not quite hopeless, but it seems to be going that way........sad times.

Eddiespearitt, Woolf, Donacien or Chambo up front? Seriously??!! Suppose we could bring Butcher back into the back 4, put Holy on the left wing and Skuse could go between the sticks! Ludicrous!😂

Blueboy, essentially agree with what you're saying. Just can't stop myself believing in a miraculous change in fortunes!

Our current striking options (according to PL):

Freddie Sears - recently returned from a long injury lay-off of a year (0 goals this season).
Teddy Bishop - 1 career goal (and injury prone).
Will Keane - 3 goals in League 1 this season so far (and injury prone).

People talking about wanting Roberts back says all you need to know. Yet again, the incompetence and lack of ambition from Marcus Evans has cost this club dear. Why did we not try get another striker in January (even a loanee would've been better than nothing). Instead we're now relying on guys who have scored 3 goals between them all season. Beggars belief!

Doctor you are spot on. Looking at the number of goals scored by players in other clubs in Lg 1 it amazes me that we are not further down the table. We are clueless up front and now we have a potential partnership with three goals all season. What a joke. This season is over as far as promotion is concerned. Play some youngsters up front and at least we might see some more goals. Lethargy Mick is absolutely right. Complacency and lack of desire is endemic at this club and has been the main problem this year. All the bigging up by PL has not helped. Hair dryer moments as Fergy used to refer to at Man U would have given these players a good kick up the arse. Back bone and tenacity needs to be restored next season to get out of the league. Let's start a new chapter now before the end of the season.

Perhaps bring back Drinan asap he's big enough and may cause defences problems. Either that or push Chambers into striker as we have enough defenders

We are in danger of becoming Notts County, they were massive in the 1950's.

Doctor Earman. We did try to sign a striker on loan during the window. Unfortunately it was a totally unrealistic target, in Connor Wickham. And there were other targets too, but they were all financially unviable. To those talking about bringing roberts, elmizouni, etc back from loans? We cant, they're all on loans till the end of the season.

What's happened to Folami? Is he also out on-loan?

I find it hard to believe that there was not SOMEONE out there, in the UK or why not on the continent, who could have tweaked our attack. We didn't need much in January really - just a target man. Doesn't PL have any connections in Deutschland? What about Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Albania even? We should be able to at least compete on the scouting front with other L1 teams. Keane shows some neat touches, but he doesn't win headers and he has hardly been a prolific goal scorer. Freddie needs a big man to feed off. Jackson blows hot and cold, which ends up as "average, could do better." And Norwood's form has fallen off, probably through not being fully fit. January was a big missed opportunity. I don't normally criticise our players, but with a target man in place, all of the above-mentioned would probably actually perform much better.

Talking of ‘scouting' - maybe we should get Peterborough to do it for us.
They never have a problem finding, selling, finding and selling again - time after time, after time.
Extremely successfully too.
One day people will wake up to being mugged by ITFC, time and time again.
Who are our Scouts, where are they, what do they do ..... ????

We are a Club that has made extremely poor decisions by both Owner and Managers for the past decade - and it continues.
That's why we are what we are, and where we are.
Not Rocket Science - they for a brain cell to see.

A lot has been said of our young players in my opinion they are over rated . If they can't perform in Div 1 they need to go out on loan to further their development. Could anyone explain what has happened to the elusive Dylan Crowe he seems to go missing in the football season if he is injured we would have heard .

Regarding January acquisitions:

I saw the 20 minute video made by Darragh McAntony the Chairman of Posh, a link to which was shared on TWTD. Also I saw a few pressers from Michael Appleton the Manager of Lincoln City around the time we played them at home.

In their own way, they show the level of commitment, heartache and desire that is required to make a 'success' of the January transfer window.

All we got from Paul Lambert was a lazy throwaway after the fact admission that all our targets were financially inaccessible. How much work did he actually do? I can only guess, but from the attitude, I'd say, very little.

From Marcus Evans' point of view there was never any option to require signings in the January transfer window, as we have such a large squad relative to the majority of our League One opponents. If we sell in January (Dozzell, Woolfenden, Downes?), it is never 'this year's money' to spend.

If we take that approach as a given, then it sharpens the focus on our summer acquisitions and our assumption that our existing relegated Championship players were going to be good enough to keep us at or near the top of the league.

This places a huge spotlight on James Norwood and Will Keane. Norwood has not been a success. His first touch on receiving a throw in, in a confined space, is not good enough for this level. Keane at least has stayed fit, and is neat and tidy with the ball, unlike Norwood and Jackson. And of course, we have had injuries, losing KVY (for most of the season) and Garbutt (at a crucial time).

As others have said, this season can now be signed off as complete, and we should be looking to try our younger players. A huge frustration is that, due to the size of squad, we have farmed them out on half season loans.

All of this is a real conundrum for me. A call for investment in our squad, whilst being concerned about how many of our "vast pool of talent" we'll lose if we're not promoted. At the same time we hated the rotation policy, yet felt our youngsters were not being given a fair chance? We then name an unchanged side for a few games and along come the inevitable calls for change every week? We really are a bunch of experts aren't we (I include myself in the "bunch!)??!! There are 2 answers that cover all the questions at present, in my very amateur opinion! The first is that we're quite simply not very good. The second (which I tend toward) is that we have the talent but are yet to find somebody who knows what to do with it!
